White Sox Acquire RP Tony Pena from ARI for Brandon Allen

QUOTE (gatnom @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) If kenny thought Flowers couldn't catch, he would have been traded already. Don't rule it out, might want to get another meh reliever. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 12:21 AM) Saying he has a good glove is pushing it. He plays capable first after people thought he was going to be a DH. He is a good athlete and has decent speed for his size. I understand the complaints, but I don't have to agree with them. He played tremendous defense for B'ham this year. He did full splits many times to catch a ball. -

The thing that bugs me besides that he probably had more value than that, is that he is a tremendous athlete. Not just a 1B/DH type like some have said. If you saw him play for almost a year like me, you'd know he's so much more that. -

I'm disgusted. I don't care what anybody else thinks. Was David Weathers not available? -
I write blurbs for the site, but I haven't twittered for it yet.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 07:04 PM) Leighton Pangilinan hit a homer in his first professional AB. That name is a mouthful to say. He has the same birthday as me though.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 03:32 AM) I really like him. The upside might be somewhat limited, but he should freaking destroy the low minors. I like him enough to be in AA sometime next season. I've seen him on TV a couple times and he is a really polished pitcher. I'm not completely sold on the deception of the sidearm being as successful in AA or higher, but that's why he was a 5th rounder and not higher. It's funny you say you don't know what his breaking ball is because the scouting reports I've read on him (mostly from college/draft time though) don't even agree on what it is. One said he had a good curve and mentioned a slider. One said he had a plus slider that he relied on a lot. Another said he had a 'good breaking ball,' not even going as far as to name what pitch it was. Yeah, it looked like it could have been both.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 12:59 AM) He seems to be doing well in A ball. Has 106 k' in 90 innings pitched with only 27 BB's. He has gone 7 innings in 3 outings so there is some evidence of stamina. He has a good upside with a good fastball. He also seems to have worked on his control so I wonder if he is ready for BHam? JPN? Hell yeah, bring him on. He should have at least been promoted to Winston-Salem by now.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 12:51 AM) JPN, how is Hudson pitching in your opinion with a bird's eye view? How is his fastball and secondary pitches? Thanx He's doing well. Still acclimating himself to AA. More patient hitters, so he's having to throw more pitches. I've seen him twice and his fastball was humming the first time, but a little flat the second time. Which accounted for the 5 runs he gave up. It topped out at 98 the first time and just 94 the second. He has a good set of offspeed stuff. He had a low 80's change and something he threw in the high 70's. But, both times he was efficient with his pitch count.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) Jordan Danks was projected as a finer prospect than Kenny Williams Jr. a guy who didn't even start most of the time in college and pretty much flunked out. For a team that watches its resources as closely as the White Sox, this was a ridiculous move. There was a 99 % chance he was nothing, and a guy with the exact same history with the exact same skill set and potential named something other than Williams wouldn't have received anything near $150k. If they want to draft all their kids, thats fine by me, but don't waste resources on reaches. If you wanna go real deep, you can say he's a bad father for spoiling his child instead of encouraging him to earn his way in the world. Or, he told him that if he played four years of college ball, he'd pay him 150K and let him play minor league ball. At least Oney "retired."

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Please tell me you're not joking... That would be too funny if he actually did that. At first he used "Dancing Queen" by Abba, then he used one of the big hits from Milli Vanilli, I forget which one.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) Is Danks' Alan Jackson? I don't know what's worse, that or the other two songs he has used...Milli Vanilli and Abba.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 12:27 AM) I still believe they wanna take it easy with that torn labrum that cost him the season last year. Don't want him hurting himself on the field. I hope that's the reason.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) JPN, how about a weekly update on futuresox that just quickly goes over all the minor league transactions within the organization? I think it'd be cool to have it posted like once a week on monday to let everyone know what the minor league moves were. Like this past week, we got Curtis moving up, and I know there was another roster move or two. I try to update the significant moves on Future Sox. But I can do a recap of all of them weekly.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) The Sox like drafting kids of the Sox organization, i.e. Ozzie, Kenny, and Harold's kids. They all suck, but the only one that's been a waste of draft spot was Kenny Williams. A great defensive player who on plays DH.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 11:20 PM) That's awesome for Viciedo and Flowers... the AA All-Star game is in Birmingham, right? If so, you lucky bastard JPN! Home run derby at Rickwood the day before too. I have tickets for both, they came with my season tickets package this year. Plus, the playoff tickets are comped for all season ticket holders. -
Just for fun, here's a list of all the walk up/intro songs for the Birmingham Barons this season. It's not necessarily complete, I have no idea what John Ely and Dayan Viciedo's music is. Aside from baseball, music is my other passion. "Hero" by Nas "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) Knights lost 5-1 Harrell 5 IP 4 R Allen 2-4 Barons in a delay W-S PPD Kanny lost 3-1 Phegley finally got to play catcher: 1-3 with a double, passed ball, threw out both runners that tried to steal 11th rounder Ballinger already moved up and got the start: 3 IP, 3 R Great Falls Bristol John Curtis was moved up to W-S, so Phegley will probably catch a lot more now.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) My guess is that it is so he can focus solely on hit hitting which by all accounts is his weakest tool. Yeah, but I don't think he's played outfield literally at all since he was drafted. I know he hasn't this year, and he only played about two weeks worth of games last season.

Am I the only person who finds it strange that KW Jr. only DH's?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Man, Danks was out forever, I hope it's nothing that lingers. He looked fine playing long toss and pepper in warmups this past week.
