  2. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) By the way, the death of FTA is killing me inside FTA?
  3. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) Are you familiar with the Raelians? Or do you know your way around the black market? Because we need to figure out a way to clone JPN and put versions of him at Charlotte, W-S, Kanny, Great Falls, Bristol, and in the DSL. Either that or we need to get some Sox scouts to start anonymously posting here somehow. Technically, I am working on a "clone." 50/50, whatever. It's a long term genetic experiment, involving lots and lots of funding.
  4. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) That's what I thought as well, but I learned not to guestion JPN. He's right virtually 99.9% of the time it seems like. When is that 0.1%?
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:08 PM) Either that, or futuresox becomes a million dollar scouting agency, and we hire people to scout all of our minor league affiliates..... Even the DSL! Pay me and I'll travel.
  6. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) So reading through the news today, I saw these 2 things; So it looks like Giles and Lugo are both very much available. Giles has struggled terribly this season, but has an excellent history of getting on base and being a good solid LHH. Depending if Quentin gets back to 100%, could Giles be a possible alternative in the OF? As for Lugo, if the Red Sox are willing to pay the remainder of his contract, I'd certainly look into acquiring him depending on the cost. Ramirez could move back to 2B, however, he has actually been better than Lugo has defensively this season, albeit the errors. Any other thoughts on these 2? Can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh**.
  7. For W-S info, e-mail Ed Collari, he's very friendly and helpful. And, Jon Barr, the radio guy for GF is also very nice and helpful. [email protected] [email protected]
  8. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) One guy who has gone unnoticed but has been mostly money out of the pen (struggled a little when he got promoted to WS last year) since we drafted him is Henry Mabee. Anyone know much about his stuff? JPN, you see him pitch yet? Yes, he has a nice fastball that gets up to 97. I think he throws a power curve and maybe a splitter or sinker to go along with that. Big strong kid, could be a sleeper.
  9. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 10:43 PM) Can someone who has seen Harrell this year (*cough* JPN *cough*) tell me how much Harrell has been throwing his slider this year, and where the pitch is at right now? I really like Harrell and with a third pitch I think he can be a starter. He's been kinda enigmatic this year. More often than not though he throws a lot of pitches and nibbles and doesn't last as long. I'm guessing that's when he's throwing more off speed stuff. If I remember correctly, his slider was about 83-85 MPH. The one thing that's holding him back is finding the balance between nibbling and attacking hitters. He has a surprisingly good fastball that he can run up to about 96. Considering his shoulder issues in the past and what I've seen of him, I honestly think his future is as a two pitch set up man. Not that I don't think he can't start, he's just the one pitcher whose role I would like to see change to see what he's capable of in set up relief.

Well, if you like him, you'll like "Bruno."
  11. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) I assume high school football is really big down there as well, correct? Yes.

Saw "Bruno" tonight. Funny as hell.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) Torres looked real good out there. Quite a pleasant surprise, I was preparing myself for another soft tossing pitcher, but that was not the case. Eric Young said he talking to someone with the White Sox Organization and they said his best pitch was the cutter. Got some good pop on his fastball and a nice tight breaking pitch. Also, EY said that he was a great competitor, pitched with no fear, and has a lot of confidence. He's now a legit prospect in my book. The one negative I'd say is that he doesn't have all that great of a frame. He looks really skinny. However, at the very least, I think he could be a solid bullpen arm. He always pitches from the stretch by the way, never from a wind up.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) I've now seen Carlos Torres pitch a total of one inning of baseball, and I can already tell I'd rather see him pitch every fifth game than Clayton Richard. To top it all off, he's also hysterical.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) August 1st is tentatively going to be a huge day for FutureSox.com Why is that?
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) I just saw that Birmingham has more season ticket holders per capita than any other city in the US. Thought it kind of odd, unless they have some other sports teams there, I don't know. The Barons are the only pro team here. Now, the season tickets for Alabama/Auburn football dwarfs the Barons. In fact, that's the only thing most people care about down here. Nick Saban can't fart without it being on the front page of newspaper. You guys wanna hear something that'll blow your minds? They're building a dome stadium/multi-purpose facility with tax dollars, without any major tenants to generate revenue. The Barons aren't moving, there's an abundance of parking at Regions Park, whereas there would be a parking nightmare in downtown Birmingham. We have a 10% sales tax in B'ham and get this...we already have a dome stadium/multi-purpose facility that is empty most of the year and doesn't generate hardly any revenue. Nobody wants to go to downtown B'ham, and that is why the suburbs and metro areas have grown so much the past 25 years. Google "Larry Langford," it'll make your head spin what you read about him. Just for fun, check out "Richard Scrushy" and the "Birmingham City Council."
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) Not sure which of the twitter crew was twittering about Gartrell but I saw the tweets from his agent and have reached out to try and get an interview set-up. Thanks to whomever it was that was doing the direct tweets. PM me and you obviously have dibs on doing the interview If you guys want interviews with Barons' players, I can get that done, just ask.
  18. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) is the gun hot or does he routinely sit in the 92-94mph range? Also i like his slider? its a very tight break. He was doing that in B'ham last year. He moves his fastball all over the place and keeps the hitters off balance. His fastball is the real deal.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) I don't know cause a week ago I had heard the Sox still had some things they wanted him to work on down in Kanny. The plan from what I understand was for Dex to spend a while longer in Kanny, than the rest of the season in Winston Salem and than open next year in Bham. But stuff obviously changes. Thats why I'm so skeptical. If it comes from anyone with a certain team, then I'd take it as true. Try e-mailing Ed Collari, he may know. [email protected]
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) Got an email from an old source of mine down in Kanny. The only source I ever had in Kanny, but he had seen how all of us were constantly blabbing about Dex deserving a promotion. Literally haven't talked to him in a year or so and didn't think he was at all involved with the org anymore. I'm trying to get confirmation. Then more than likely, it's true.
  21. Kanny also has one open roster spot, the need room for another catcher and Jared Mitchell.
  22. Where did you hear that by the way?
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) I'm hearing rumors of a promotion. Can anyone confirm or deny for me? It would make sense. W-S has two open roster spots and could use another pitcher.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) OK, I thought Curtis was still there. Even that, though, is odd, unless Sierra really is a catcher. Curtis has been in W-S for about a week and a half. Sierra is a utility player, but if he's adding catcher to his repertoire, then he's a super sub.
