  1. I'm gonna go with JPNese unless someone wows me with something else before the end of the day.
  2. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 03:01 AM) JPN, how is Viciedo looking as far as a fitness stand point? Is he in shape, hustling, and overall working hard? There have been doubts about his work ethic. He certainly is a guy who gives full effort, he wants to succeed and doesn't like to fail. He's got the ever so slightest pot belly, but it may be that he needs to do a few more crunches, nothing to worry about.
  3. I told you guys that when Dayan started pulling more he'd be deadly.
  4. Montgomery outfielder Fernando Cortez, a former Charlotte Knight, flipped me off tonight. We've been heckling him all week because he played for Montgomery 5 years ago in 2004, also in 2005. After his first at bat, I screamed at him "see you again in 5 years." As he was putting up his helmet, he gave me the finger, he was wearing white gloves, so I could see it clear as day. His next at bat, we heckled him even more. He "accidently" lost his grip on his bat and slung it backwards into the net. I think he was trying to sling it at us. Viciedo's homer was an absolute bomb.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) Grouses = complaints I know. I was purposely taking it out of context.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) Grits and Grouses Grits are good, with lots of butter and cheese. I don't eat wild game though.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) Grin and Baron It Almost. I think JPNese is my favorite, unless someone can overwelm me...
  8. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Rephrasing Sweet Home Alabama ("In Birmingham they love the Gov'nuh" (boo hoo hoo)") Ah, gotcha. I've long excised that song from my head.
  9. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) I totally missed this one, which is so obvious. "In Birmingham they love the Barons (boo hoo hoo)" Explain that one.
  10. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) I lived in Alabama in 97-98. Montgomery, not Birmingham, but I did get very drunk in Birmingham at least once. I'm sorry.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) Is it true that they want to move it to late Feb/early Mar? It should be a month earlier than it is now. NFL feels the need to steal the limelight from MLB in late April.
  12. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) David Weathers - Not a great GB reliever, but he's experienced, got good numbers, and the Reds are slipping. I've been predicting it for years.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) I like Barons Banter. It's short and gets the point across. Some of blackbetsy's are good, but people might not get some of them because they seem related to the city and not the team. JPNese is fairly pithy.
  14. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 08:47 AM) Here are the worst titles I could come up with, which makes them good blog titles Birminghamming it Up Re(a)d Baron Hoover Metro Section Double A Plus Southern Exposure Iron City Lumber JPNese Birmingham Is Not the Capital All Your Prospect Belong to Us I actually like some of those. I see you researched info on the area too.
  15. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) Charlotte's roster is way unsettled. I'm guessing that Jeffrey Marquez has been put on the DL since he didn't start the past few days.
  16. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:18 AM) HOw is he getting most of his whiffs? He gets ahead in the count and then puts them away with the slider/curve or brings heat on most of the K's? He mixes it up, the hitters don't know what's coming.
  17. Since there is a demand for me to blog more on the Barons on Future Sox, I'd like to at least have a title for it. I like titles. Normally I don't have trouble thinking of something clever, but I'd like to take suggestions anyway. Suggest away...
  18. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 01:40 AM) I have read three scouting reports on his stuff and upside and am confused. One says his slider is definitely his number pitch with a nasty bite against right handers and the other two say his curve is better? He is definitely mowing down AA batters (5-0 with very low WHIP) so I think maybe AAA by the end of the year. Maybe not but an ST invite is possible for next year. What are your thoughts JPN? Well, according to his interview on Future Sox, he throws both. After watching him, especially tonight, he's one to hold onto and NOT trade. He doesn't have one dominant pitch, he mixes them well and effectively and has a lot of life on his fastball. It tends to get harder and faster the longer he pitches.

    7/24 games

I got Daniel Hudson to sign his baseball card tonight, so you can thank me for giving him good mojo.
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) Probably just had to settle the rosters. Charlotte's roster is way unsettled.
  21. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) Take it easy. Laugh, it's a joke.
  22. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) I thought it stood for "Japanese Leap Year". Reading too much into things, huh?
  23. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) JPN - your own post plus Balta's provides the answer, doesn't it? From the David Cook thread: Either he's coming right back up, or they are waiting to see what happens with Colon and/or Danks. He was initially on Great Falls roster, now he's back on Charlotte's. Thought it was strange.
  24. Nobody's blocking Brett Wallace, I'd be surprised if he plays at all in the minors for Oakland.
  25. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) Not arguing with you JPN. I think you make a very good point. My comment is in response to the "guy is not a 'prospect', so who cares" posts. I know, just reiterating my point.
