  1. They looked shell shocked on ESPN. Steve Phillips is pretty much being an apologist for them.
  2. My two seats, plus a full season parking pass, playoff tickets comped, all star events this year, just $945. My seats are the most expensive in the park, the lot I park in is up front, plus we have waitress service in our section. We're right behind the 1st base (home) dugout. The seat right next to ours is unclaimed by the way.
  3. Shocking. I've always known those two weren't innocent. I thought it was funny how you almost never heard any speculation about them being on steroids, but everybody else was under suspicion.
  4. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:03 AM) I would freaking love to do that. I'm thinking about moving down to Birmingham now! You get to shag balls when your not in the cage. Anywhere on the field you want to be.
  5. Story Don't know where he's been assigned yet.
  6. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) At 1st I thought I'd be okay with that deal (Poreda & Fields). But after thinking about it, I'd be a little hesitant to give up Poreda in the deal as I think he could give us what Sherrill would even as soon as next year. This would obviously be a deal for this season, and maybe a precursor (if done soon enough) to move another bullpen guy like Dotel. Anyway, Sherrill isn't exactly a young pup (32) and he's had a 4+ ERA two out of the four full seasons. I don't know. I might still do it, but is Sherrill really worth giving up our top pitching prospect (though Hudson may have something to say about that)? Yeah, Sherrill isn't worth Poreda and Fields. Fields and maybe McCulloch, maybe you trade Fields and Gilmore. They'll want more than one player for Sherrill, but you don't want to way overpay for him.
  7. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) That's really cool that they let season ticket holders do that. You'll have to share how it goes whenever it's rescheduled. The last few years I've sucked with a wood bat, but I'm going aluminum for this year.
  8. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) Not that this has anything to do with anything, but... That sentence makes me think of Joe Borchard. Any time I see the phrase "Light Tower Power," I immediately think of Borch b/c that's one of the big reasons he was so hyped coming out of Stanford. It's just a figure of speech. Cole has good power and has a bright future. Speaking of Joe Borchard, I have a Joe Borchard Barons bobblehead.

    Moving on out....

    QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) Moving out this Saturday. I'm the last of 5 kids (well, actually my one brother who is still in college is at home still), I'm sad because I think I am making my mom sad. But I'm also very excited to finally be by myself and playing football again (it's been a long however many months since November). Also, I'll still see my family a lot. I'm gonna see my family at most home games or games in Illinois. Also, after football season, I'll probably make my way back home during the weekend a lot as well as for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you have any advice, stories, or whatever, please share. Matt, there's nothing better than learning how to depend on yourself. It's the best way to mature into adulthood. It's tough and not fun, I won't lie to you. I don't mean to sound like an old fogey, but there really is nothing more satisfying than knowing that you do not need anybody's financial help. I don't know if your at that point yet, but the best advice I can give you is live within your means, budget your expenses, pay your bills on time, keep your credit card balances manageable and don't buy a car that costs more that what you make annually. That may be more than you're dealing with currently, but in the longterm, it'll help.
  10. Ugh...season ticket holder batting practice got postponed due to wet grounds at Regions. I have to wait another month to crack some dingers. I know it has nothing to do with today's games, just thought I'd share.
  11. QUOTE (forrestg @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) while I was at spring training Armstrong hit the best shot . It was a line drive homer crushed. I wished he could be more consistent. I would be glad to see him improve at the plate. Believe me he has the power. He sure does, it's more of a contact issue with him. He has light tower power, it's just a matter of him being more selective and not being so aggressive and swinging at everything.
  12. Plus, Detroit just DFA'd Josh Anderson, so if all else fails, you could get him and maybe a low level pitcher for Fields.
  13. If you can get Sherrill for Fields and maybe someone else, then you do it. Depends on the other player. You wouldn't have a difficult roster decision to make, just send Randy Williams down. If that falls through, you can always look west to Oakland. Even though they acquired Brett Wallace, I'm sure they wouldn't mind picking up another possible long term third base option if Wallace had to be moved to first base or DH. That's definitely Oakland's biggest position question mark, even with Brett Wallace. Maybe re-acquire Aaron Cunningham since they don't seem to be giving him a fighting chance to earn a full time gig. He's only 23 and he definitely hits at the AAA level. Just an idea.
  14. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) If Thornton is back... Colon is headed to the DL. Richard is back in the rotation... and Williams is the second lefty out of the pen. Man we need to make some moves. I don't care if we buy or sell... I would prefer to sell... but just don't keep what we have going on here. That would leave Charlotte and Birmingham without any left handed relievers at all.
  15. Oneli Perez has six fingers on each hand.
  16. Brian Anderson is now going to go on and hit a few hundred homers for the Red Sox. Fenway Park can make mediocre hitters great.
  17. Yes, he's a doubles hitter, that's the ideal spot in the order for him. Especially if he hits around .300.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) I also eat p****. Tossed salad isn't on the list either.
  19. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) While it's unlikely, IMO, that we'll get another elite starter by the deadline, I think there's a decent chance we make a play for Justin Duchscherer when he comes off the DL in August. Apparently, he'll be going immediately onto the trading block, and KW has obviously been able to work with Beane on numerous occasions. I'm not sure how the waiver claim rights that exist after 7/31 will affect such a move, but I understand that it may not necessarily be a huge hindrance. I've read that the A's would only want a "modest prospect" in return.
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) I always forget, lol. Ginko Biloba...I think.
  21. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 05:31 AM) JPN, just read through his interview again and he says he induces a lot of ground balls. Have you seen a heavy sink on the fastball? I will look at the stats from AA and see whst the ratio of GB/fly balls is. Cya There is definitely a heavy pop in the catcher's mitt when he throws his fastball. I'll take a closer look at his fastball next time he makes a home start so I can answer your question better. Ask me again after the August 4th game.
  22. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 05:08 AM) It looks like he is not a power pitcher but decent enough life and movement on the fastball to be very effective. I am thinking if he does well he will be at Charloote for sure next year and maybe a mid year call up. I'd say that he can be a power pitcher at times.
  23. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) sweet I am in line for some fat royalty checks..
  24. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 03:04 AM) JPN, do you think the friendly hitters park in Charlotte will benefit Viciedo more than BHam? I tend to think so but there is no graphical tool in MILB.COM that shows to what fields he is hitting the ball to. With Beckham I got a chart that showed he was spraying the ball all over the place once he got to the bigs and especially at the Cell which is a hitter's park but not so sure with Viciedo. Do you think AAA will be a good promotion for him next year? QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 03:11 AM) Guess what? Viciedo picked up another error (23 for the season). He is butchering 3rd base and is definitely not the answer there long term. Outfield, 1st base, or DH maybe? QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) JPN, how does Viciedo's defense at 3B look? All will be answered in my first Barons blog which I should have ready to post on Future Sox sometime tonight.
