  1. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Bham is delayed. I didn't even attempt to go out to the park tonight. I knew it would be postponed, it was pouring down rain and is still steadily raining now.
  2. With Felix Pie playing well, it seems like KW should've pulled the trigger on that deal. But of course we don't know why it didn't go down. Maybe The Orioles were the smart ones and didn't want Fields. I figured after they got Josh Bell, they wouldn't necessarily want Fields anymore.
  3. Can we adopt a no penis talk policy here?
  4. QUOTE (CSF @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) Although is Viciedo banged up? He didn't play in either game. Night off, he's fine.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 06:38 PM) Hudson is falling behind in the count against everyone in the first inning+. Has to get use to more patient hitters.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) Brent Morel is really making my penis hard. Nice to see Gilmore have a nice night. Phegley continues to hit during August. Remenowsky.. still ridiculous. John Ely with just an amazing year. Umm, ewww.
  7. C.J. Retherford will be better than both of them.
  8. QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Fake injury much? This is just us being afraid to put wise on waivers, and putting him on the DL until the rosters expand. Nobody's gonna claim him, he'll clear waivers. None of the other 29 teams are clamoring to get their hands on Dewayne Wise. Charlotte could actually use him for a few weeks.
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) Last Sox player to wear 43 was Damaso Marte. *Gulp Wassermann.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) Marrero nearly killed the Montgomery pitcher last night. Hit a double off the pitcher's skull. "August 18, 2009 Tampa Bay Rays minor-leaguer in ICU with fractured skull after being hit by line drive UPDATE, 3:13: The Rays issued a statement saying Downs remains hospitalized in "serious, but stable" position. DEVELOPING: Darin Downs, a pitcher for the Rays' Double-A Montgomery (Ala.) team, is in the intensive care unit of a Birmingham, Ala., hospital with a fractured skull after being hit by a line drive in Monday's game, the Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser's Stacy Long reported. Downs is alert and conscious, with doctors monitoring cranial bleeing and swelling, Biscuits spokesman Jon Laaser told the paper. Downs, a 24-year-old lefty, was hit on the head during the fifth inning by a line drive by Christian Marrero, with the ball deflecting into the Barons' dugout for a ground-rule double. Downs never lost consciousness and was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent's Hospital in downtown Birmingham. Downs was 12-4, 2.00 at Class A Charlotte before being promoted to the Biscuits, and was making his second Double-A start. Also, new White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy will make a rehab start for Charlotte today against Triple-A Durham. "http://blogs.tampabay.com/rays/2009/08/tampa-bay-rays-minorleaguer-in-icu-with-fractured-skull-after-being-hit-by-line-drive.html" Weird Peavy shout-out at the end. I saw it happen, it was awful. Marrero hit that ball so hard, it must have been going about 120 MPH on the way back. Downs put his glove up, but it still got a good bit of his head. It actually deflected into Montgomery's dugout.
  11. Interesting stats from the Southern League...Dayan Viciedo is second in the league with 124 hits, he's only struck out 79 times. He also has the most AB's. David Cook leads the league in runs scored, and is tied for the lead in RBI's. He'll take that lead soon because the guy he was tied with has been promoted. He's also second, but soon to be first in homeruns. C.J. Retherford is second in the league in doubles.
  12. The sixth picture in this gallery is of Clevelan Santeliz...Link
  13. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:46 AM) That all sounded good to me when I read it. Sounded like a guy who kept the clubhouse loose. Maybe the broken bat part I misread or misinterpreted. I thought what you were saying was that when his teammates want him to pitch inside and send a message he does so. And I took the autograph story as light-hearted. Clevelan Santeliz, I gave you a smiley in the game thread, but now you get one of these: Take that, smiley! I meant if you as a fan want a broken bat, you ask him to get it for you.
  14. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:22 AM) If D2 gets hot, then yes. Long has been aces lately. Edit: actually, D2 probably doesn't have to get hot for them to reach that. Yes, they will reach that. Long has a fresh arm.
  15. By the way, that was the Barons 80th win on the season. 19 games to go, can they get to 90 wins?
  16. I did get Fernando Cortez autograph tonight, but I didn't have the heart to remind him of the heckle that drew the bird from him. It would have been just too cold blooded. Still ironic as hell though. Plus I scored this sweet C.J. Retherford broken bat, I got him to sign it after the game. It's half dark green and half tan.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) Knoedler was a nice prospect a couple years ago. Just another nail in Donny Lucy's coffin. I don't see a return to AAA in Lucy's future. More to do with the fact that Charlotte only has 10 position players, leaving one guy on the bench. If Flowers is dinged up, then they needed someone else. When Garcia goes up tomorrow, Wise would be a good choice to go to Charlotte.
  18. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) I got a very negative report on Santeliz' attitude just recently. Apparently everyone in Birmingham wants him gone, he's been stealing, he shows no respect towards team mates, staff or peoples property etc. It was just one report but the source went out of his way to tell me how nasty this guy is. Hey Jeff, PM me about who told you that. I'm sure whomever told you that is not lying to you.
  19. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) Another great piece, JPN. I was hoping you could cover a bit more on Santeliz. I've heard from a couple of sources around the net that the kid has a bit of arrogance to him. That he puts himself above the team. Have you heard anything like this? Is it possible that his class clown personality had led to his attitude being misconstrued by some people? Ultimately, if the kid can pitch, the kid can pitch, but character counts for something. Arrogance? Yes, but he's always shown his "good side" to the fans.
  20. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) These blogs are awesome JPN. My only concern is that you cover so much that you might run out of things to talk about after a while, lol. Hopefully not because they're fun to read. Also, from where you sit, how would you rate Santeliz's slider? Is there a good amount of depth to it? And it might be hard to tell because he probably focuses on his fastball, but from what you have seen, what is his best pitch after the fastball? I love hearing about the hot-head on the field, clubhouse clown in dugout attitude. Sounds EXACTLY like the kind of guy I'd want on my team, especially in a (possibly?) future closer's role. And lastly, how does Mabee's curveball look? Nah, I can yap and yap and yap about baseball. Santeliz slider is nothing spectacular, he usually buries it in the dirt to get guys to chase. Mabee's curveball is a 12 to 6, he also just uses it to work off his fastball/splitter combo.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) Obviously I wanted to see District 9 this weekend, and will do so with some buddies this week. That being said, I owed one to my wife and saw "The Time Traveler's Wife". It was a f***ing good movie. I held back the tears, too. Call me what you will, though, that movie was great. My wife prefers movies like "The Goods." She was the one who wanted to go see it. No sappy chick flicks for me.

Went to see "The Goods." The theater lost power just about halfway through the movie. This happened to me last summer when I went to see "The Dark Knight." I was only 20 minutes into that movie. What I saw was funny.
  23. I'll be doing a massive blog with a grab bag of topics tomorrow.
