  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Birmingham puts 4 in the 9th to take a 6-5 lead. Retherford hit a 3-run homer. A nice way to end the regular season. 92 wins, out of 140 games. The most successful team in Barons history.
  2. The penultimate edition of JPNese for 2009? We'll see.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) Barons get one hit. I think they started their game after Jacksonville had clinched. Must have throttled it down.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) I hope Retherford can get a few hits the last couple games to stay above .300. Ditto.
  5. QUOTE (CSF @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Poreda's line yesterday: 5.1 IP, 1 hit, 3 ER, 8 BB, 8 K's. Good Lord. I know an adjustment period is to be expected, but 37 BB in 32 innings? That's Marmol-esque, without the wipeout slider. At least Dexter's on the DL, so maybe he wasn't 100%, but Poreda is all over the place. How did the Sox coaches get through to him where San Diego's aren't? He actually only made a couple AAA starts with the Sox, so he's really not use to such patient veteran hitters yet. I'm surprised he's not in San Diego pitching yet. What do they have to lose by pitching him in the majors now?
  6. John Ely is a great pitcher and a hell of a nice guy. I imagine he'll pitch game 1 of the division series, his 4 days rest coincides with that.
  7. If the Barons hold on for win #91, then their best bet is to tie Jacksonville. Which would lead to a one game playoff Tuesday at Regions Park two days before the playoff series begins. If the Barons lose tonight, then Jacksonville clinches the second half.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) Justin Fuller was "promoted" to AAA. In starting lineup for Charlotte. Gerst has his 1st bomb. Third game with Charlotte.
  9. 90 wins for Birmingham!
  10. 2 homers for Lee Cruz, 2 homers for Justin Greene. Brady Shoemaker hit a homer as well...off Heath Rollins.
  11. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) If we're going to be removing players called up from consideration (Flowers and Hudson mainly) then CJ can definitely fit IMO. If not, right now I'd probably go: 1. Flowers 2. Viciedo 3. Hudson 4. Danks 5. Mitchell I'd probably have CJ 6th in the top-10 with Jones, Phegley, Shirek, maybe Morel. You can't leave out Christian Marrero.
  12. Unfortunately, Marrero is now on the DL. I hope he's healthy and ready to play by next Thursday.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 02:35 AM) BTW.. Sergio Santos is terrible. That's what happens when you convert an infielder into a pitcher and rush him through 4 levels of the minors all in less than 6 months. He was a NRI in spring training as an infielder. The White Sox traded him to the Giants, but he wound up back with the Sox and was converted. He does throw some serious gas though.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 08:47 AM) Its sad when the minor teams are going to have more wins than the big team while playing a ton less games. I'm holding out hope for 90 wins for the Barons. That would be out of 140 games. Right now, they're 43 games over .500.
  15. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) CJ: 3 hits, including his 44th double, bringing his average up to .301 And on the season CJ is molesting lefties, hitting .354/.386/.543 If there is a list of the most under-the-radar prospects nationally, who practically no one pays attention to but who WILL play in the Majors, CJ has got to be on it. Top 5 postseason maybe? I'm thinking about it.
  16. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) This is why your blogs are awesome. I know.
  17. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) Hudson wearing #54 Years to come, years to come.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) Trayce Thompson was moved to Great Falls to get more AB's. Good idea, their regular season runs through the 11th.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) Why's that? Don't want to take at bats away from Wise.
  20. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) Thanks. I wonder if he will be a candidate for an outfield spot next year. Not with Ozzie Guillen as manager.
  21. Kannapolis just got their 80th win, they have the best record in the Sally League. Birmingham's on the verge of win #89. The best record in the Southern League by far.
  22. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 08:49 PM) JPN, how good was Gartrell in the field? See the paragraph on Stefan...JPNese 8/17
  23. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 07:23 PM) Shelby and Viciedo each with a homer for the Barons. Treybone's back from bereavement leave.
  24. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) Shirek starting (he's back in the rotation now?) Will still probably only get 2-3 innings. It's probably because Matt Long is starting for Charlotte tonight. I wonder now if Johnnie Lowe will pitch at all before the end of the season. He would've gone tonight with Long going tomorrow.
