  1. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) Stayin' Alive! Great Falls with a 3-1 WIN tonight. Wickswat: 5 IP; 6 H; 1 ER; 0 BB; 6 K Vargas: 4-4; 1 RBI The Great Falls Hope.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) Birmingham lost 12-2. Season over. Playoff records: Birmingham 0-3 Winston-Salem 0-3 Kannapolis 0-2 Good times. Great Falls is out too if they lose tonight. Ugh.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) B-Ham still in rain delay, but here is the gamecenter link anyway. GF plays at 8:05pm CT, Terry Doyle (who has had a very nice year after same at Bristol in 2008, but is a bit old for Pioneer at 23) starts The Barons get a stay of execution, the game was suspended.
  4. The sad thing is, the Barons could easily pummel either Tennessee or Huntsville in the championship series if they were to make it. Jacksonville is the tough draw.
  5. I hope the Barons have their business socks on.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) Beckham might need a rehab stint. It's too late to send him to Winston-Salem.
  7. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 11:20 PM) Morel will be fun to watch in Birmingham next year. And for B-Ham it seems like Viciedo, Shelby and Hudson are carrying that offense.. not good. Jared Price too. He has two RBI, C.J. has 1 and everybody else has zip.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 09:56 PM) Bang up job by the whole organization. B'ham's on life support.
  9. Winston-Salem's done. Lost on a walk off homer.
  10. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Playoffs: Birmingham vs. Jacksonville Game 2, Barons trail series 1-0 (best of 5). Game 1: Birmingham 2, Jacksonville 4. Winston-Salem at Salem Game 3, Dash trail series 2-0 (best of 5). Game 1: Winston-Salem 2, Salem 7. Game 2: Winston-Salem 4, Salem 6. Kannapolis at Lakewood Game 2, Intimidators trail series 1-0 (best of 3). Game 1: Kannapolis 2, Lakewood 4. Regular Season: Great Falls vs. Billings I'm actually not at the game. I'm sick and my doctor told me to stay home and not go anywhere.
  11. I wouldn't think it was fair if Peavy made a rehab start with one of our minor league clubs in the playoffs. It would be an uneven playing field. I don't think that the Red Sox organization is sitting around thinking of ways to be jerks, but it was still a classless move, plain and simple. 1, 2 or 3 innings would have been reasonable, but to go 6 2/3 is a whole different thing. But, all I'm saying is that we fans have a right to be angry about it, angry for the players and angry for the situation. Winston-Salem won the first half and tied the second half, they're offense was already struggling. So running into Dice-K derailed them completely. I've even talked to Red Sox fans who think it was a d*** move. When Ed Collari says "it's the Red Sox, what do you expect," that says it all to me.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) Birmingham lost 4-2. Nic Ungs throws nothing but offspeed stuff. It rained all f***ing night.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 07:00 PM) Eh, I was indeed giving him a little bit of s*** for his post, so I can't really complain about the response. Iron fist, Matt. Iron fist.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) Southern League Round 1... Game 1: Jacksonville @ Birmingham, 7:05pm CT, no starters announced yet Carolina League Round 1... Game 2: Salem (Kyle Weiland) @ Winston-Salem (A. Carter), 6:05pm CT Sally Round 1... Kanny plays again tomorrow night. Pioneer League still in regular season... Billings @ Great Falls, 8:00pm CT, Jimmy Ballinger starts for GF It's Ely versus Nic Ungs.
  15. Major mojo for the Barons and the Dash tonight, guys. Christian Marrero was activated off the DL, so he should be playing. We're "blacking out the Suns" tonight and tomorrow, everybody's wearing black.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) So I hear the Red Sox are going to send Papelbon down to A ball to try him as a starter before the playoffs... Don't give them ideas.
  17. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) Winning doesn't matter, but development does. You don't need to win to develop, you just need to play and that's what Dayan and co will be doing in Birmingham, something they wouldn't be doing in Chicago. If Kenny and Ozzie felt that the Sox would be a better team with Viciedo or Santeliz or whoever it may be on the Major League roster, then you can bet they would be there. Daisuke was the same situation, sure the timing was unfortunate for the DASH, but if the Red Sox feel that it's in their best interests to give Matsuzaka a rehab start then that's what they're going to do, and in this case, what they did do, the fact that it came during a Carolina League playoff game is irrelevant to them. Also caring about winning and actually winning are not the same thing. I'm sure the Dash players will have been pissed off at the fact that they faced Daisuke and it probably spurred them on to try even harder, but they still lost. That doesn't mean they didn't want to win, they just weren't good enough. See, this is an example of how you respectfully disagree. You don't have to insult and demean people if you don't agree with them.
  18. If you're a White Sox fan, you should want the future players of the team to care about winning and losing, even in the minors. If the playoffs didn't matter, then the Barons 40 man members Dayan Viciedo and Clevelan Santeliz would be called up to Chicago instead of trying to help the Barons win the SL title.
  19. QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Theres a difference between following the minor league teams of your favorite MLB team and then getting all bent out of shape when something like this happens.. And besides, me making a comment about someone caring way too much about minor league baseball doesn't mean I care way too much about minor league baseball.. you're just trying to be a douche You might not want to call a Soxtalk admin a "douche."
  20. QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) Im sure they do care, but I bet they aren't pissing and moaning about facing Dice-K as much as some of you are.. maybe they are happy they get to face a MLB pitcher as some of those players may never get that chance.. I think they'd rather win the CL crown. I'm sure they're being professional about it, but all their hard work went out the window when they had to face someone who plays three levels above them. Like I said, it would be one thing if Matsuzaka had been making rehab starts with Salem before yesterday, but he hadn't.
  21. I feel bad for the kid whose development was hurt by the pointless presence of Michael Jordan on the Barons roster back in 1994.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Overreact much? Honestly, unless you're a serious minor league lover, does anyone even know who won the Southern league title last year? How about the Kanny League? Who won it in 2007? 2006? Who won the 2001 International league title? The minor leagues are for player development. Wins and losses are a DISTANT second in order of importance. It's not going to damage these kids for life to have to face a ML caliber pitcher in a playoff series that quite honestly doesn't mean a thing. 2008 SL M-Braves, 2008 Sally Augusta, 2007 Sally Columbus, 2006 Sally Lakewood, 2001 INT Louisville. It's as simple as using Google. Winning is good for player development, especially in the playoffs. Do you want a guy to make the major league team having a history of not caring about winning and losing?
  23. The players on those teams care, you obviously haven't been to a minor league game and seen how much they care. If the minors are about development, then how does it help development to have to face someone like Matsuzaka in a playoff scenario in the Carolina League.
  24. You watch too much ESPN if you think the Red Sox are not capable of being classless.
