  1. They're playing a 5 game series. Those league championships matter to the fans of the teams. It is insulting to me and everyone who lives in a minor league town to say it doesn't matter. If you want to be a elitist a$$hole about it, then fine. But I'm proud of my minor league team and their 92 wins, I don't live in Chicago or in a major city. But I'm damn sure happy to pay less than $1,000 a year to take in 70 baseball games, with the possibility of comped tickets to more games if they reach the playoffs. And I'm certainly proud to see all 13 of those championship flags flying in the breeze beyond the outfield walls. It would be one thing if Dice-K had made a few starts with Salem before yesterday, but he didn't. That would be his first and only start with Salem. So, like it or not, it is a d*** move. If you want to defend the Red Sox, be my guest. But I'm pretty sure there's no precedence for this.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) It angers me that these kids worked so hard al year, only to have to face major league talent in what many will consider the most important game of their young professional careers. It’s not like the Purple Phallus’ offense is any good even. They’ve got Morel and Loman what kind of test is this supposed to be for Dice-K? It’s a b**** move, plain and simple. Even if he was pitching for Pawtucket, it would be classless.
  3. If it was a legit rehab start, he wouldn't have been pitching well into the 7th inning. High profile pitchers on rehab starts don't go deep into a game like that. Even the Dash announcer, Ed Collari, thought it was classless on the Red Sox organization's part. There's no need to snap at us for pointing out something like that. Matsuzaka retired 13 or 14 guys in a row, it wasn't a level playing field. If it was a regular season game, it wouldn't matter. But when you're in a win or go home 5 game series, it makes a world of difference. It may be okay for the Red Sox to do it, but when you have other ways of letting him pitch, like say a simulated game with the major league team, don't try to tip the balance for your A ball team. I wouldn't think it's fair if Peavy or even Colon made a rehab start in the playoffs for Winston-Salem. I haven't even pointed out that it brought out a bunch of bandwagon Red Sox fans and skewed the crowd at a Dash home game in favor of the road team.
  4. I'm starting to think Peavy needs a rehab start.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) Is there anywhere else that Daisuke could get his innings/work in? Boston, it is after September 1st.
  6. I sure hope there is such a thing as baseball karma.
  7. Maybe Josh Beckett could work through his issues by pitching for Salem in game 2 or 3?
  8. What's even worse is I have to listen to Salem's radio broadcast instead of Collari.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) I'm not disagreeing that it's a D*** move, just saying that he can still appear on the postseason roster if he was on the DL on the 1st. I know, wasn't debating the postseason roster part. I thought he couldn't though.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) Doesn't matter. If the player is on the disabled list or bereavement list, he's still postseason eligible. But...they would need to take a man off their 40 man roster to bring him on if they don't have any other openings. Oh well. It's still a d*** move by the organization. Even Ed Collari said, "it's the Red Sox…what do you expect?"
  11. I think that qualifies as a "d*** move" by the Red Sox organization.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 07:48 PM) When a guy is on the DL, the roster rules change a lot. He'd be eligible if he came off the DL. Occasionally teams use the DL as a way to sneak an extra guy on that they can move on to the roster later. 60 day DL guys are not on the 40 man roster.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Brent Morel with an RBI single off Daisuke. Would Dice-K even be eligible for the postseason for the Red Sox??? If not, why is he rehabbing for an A ball team in the playoffs unless the Boston organization are just being a$$holes?
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) Donny never got back on the field after his 8/14 injury, and is still listed as on the DL, so he apparently won't be in the playoffs with B-Ham. His season is over. Final 2009 stats: CHARLOTTE/AAA: In 45 games, 153 AB... .216/.259/.307/.566 38 K against 10 BB BIRMINGHAM/AA: In 17 games, 59 AB... .220/.258/.237/.495 18 K against 2 BB Future isn't looking good for D Lucy. He's 27 now, put up pretty bad numbers at both AA and AAA this season, spent more time on the DL, and barely played in 2008 due to the knee injury. His athleticism would allow him to possibly play other positions, but his bat wouldn't. Hopefully he gets healed up and gets a shot somewhere next year in AAA to show he's got something to bring to the major league table. But that seems like a long shot at present. He was activated from the DL on September 3rd and played 3 games before the end of the season. He'll split time with Jared Price in the playoffs.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) I like the Barons and Kanny's chances in a 5 game series. As for the Purple Phallus, well, Loman better hit his ass off this series. Best of three for Kannapolis.
  16. Our guys in Kannapolis and Winston-Salem need all the good mojo they can get tonight.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Wait a second... You can use a major league player on a rehab assignment in the minor league playoffs? That just seems wrong. Daisuke Matsuzaka vs Justin Edwards in the Carolina League playoffs. That's just not fair. KW should send Peavy to Winston-Salem to start game 2 and return the favor.
  18. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Do you also speak Russian in French? Portuguese in Japanese
  19. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) Congrats- Has about the same ops as Rios about now, eh? (rimshot)
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) That is a great line in those commercials. I changed it a little.
  21. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) Bold words. Neither of you have anything on the Dos Equis man haha. You guys hang on my every word, even the dangling participles.
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) Only "Chuck Norris" has that kind of leeway. Chuck Norris is a b****.
  23. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) Holy Cow! Look at the size of that....oh that's the umbilical cord. Congrats anyway! How dare you, sir!? That's a Norris man you've insulted.
  24. It's a boy. His full name is going to be John William Baylor Norris and he will go by Baylor. His Junk
  25. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) Is it just a coincidence that 2 of the 3 minor league teams* CJ Retherford has played for have had the best years in the history of their franchises? *(2007 Great Falls; 2009 Birmingham) PS - Both years he lead the respective leagues in doubles. This year he had 46... 7 more than Dodger wonderboy Andrew Lambo... in fewer at-bats than Lambo. C.J. is the balls.
