  1. Nothing much to report, Ricardo Sosa from Mobile won it all and Gartrell and Retherford put up goose eggs.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) When I first looked at Viciedo and I saw Carlos Lee. CLee when he was 20, was at Hickory and hit 8 homers in 480 AB. He played at Birmingham when he was 22 and hit .300 with 21 homers. I think if Viciedo was in Birmingham in 2011, he could match those numbers. Hopefully, he'll be a lot farther along by then. I think expectations were probably way too high for him, at least initial expectations. Maybe he repeats Birmingham next year, or maybe he puts it all together in the second half. He's tremendously talented and has unbelieveable bat speed. But, he is raw and needs refinement. I've said many times that he doesn't pull the ball much. He usually goes the other way, which is something that is the opposite with young hitters. When he starts pulling the ball more, he will be deadly.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) Its really hard to judge a guy who is 20 on some AA at bats especially considering his situation. I just think most thought Viciedo would be hitting a lot better right now. He's going to have to make adjustments. How's his attitude? That was supposedly at least some concern when he was playing in Cuba? His attitude is fine, he just doesn't like to fail.
  4. So, Carlos Gomez had to change numbers then?
  5. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) If you want to compare him to someone, he is comparable to a top 5 pick in the 2007 draft money wise. He's basically our Josh Vitters, and Vitters is getting his ass handed to him in high A ball. Bill Rowell of the Orioles from the 06 draft is another comparable 3B, and he's stuck in high A struggling as well. Viciedo is on pace for about 70 RBI's in his first profesionally season as a 19/20 year old in AA. I don't even remember the last 19 year old we had at AA. Garland? Ryan Sweeney was 20 when he played for the Barons. He was way overmatched that season.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 01:24 AM) Take lots of pictures. All I have is a camera phone.

By the way, Danks made a spectacular running diving catch in right center to save a double or triple.
  8. I'll give a full report on the derby tomorrow night, provided I get home safely from the bad, bad part of town Rickwood's in. You guys watch the Futures Game for me and check out Flowers and Viciedo. Watch this space...

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) Great to see the Sox finally moved McCulloch to the pen. About time. Nope...the Barons rotation goes Shirek, Cassel, Ely, Hudson, McCulloch. McCulloch would have pitched tomorrow if there was a game. Thus, he was going to miss his next start, so they just gave him some work. Plus, had the Braves tied it up, he could pitch several innings and save the pen. They were also given a roster exemption to activate Lee Cruz from the DL with Tyler Flowers and Dayan Viciedo unavailable.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) Tyler Flowers hit a two-run bomb in game one. Q goes 1-3 with 2 BB's a run scored and an RBI Well, Tyler actually hit that homer two weeks ago, but still...
  11. White Sox requested waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.
  12. Dallas Cawiezell, make it so.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Am I the only one that really really wanted to make a joke about how I wished it was me hitting her with a ball etc.? Nope, I was hoping this thread would turn into something like that.
  14. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) Have you seen Cleveland's bullpen? The Barons need a left handed relief pitcher, maybe someone from Akron's roster would do.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 07:25 AM) Cook has to be laughing to himself. Gets screwed into another year in AA, becomes and All Star and is in the HR Derby, then finally gets promoted to AAA... just before the All Star Game. Still though, great news for Danks! The moment I saw that Brandon Allen had been dealt, I knew Cook was going to get promoted, and at the worst possible time.
  16. The best looking stripper I ever saw was a 37 year old in Nashville. Great body.
  17. I stay in the city, I don't venture into the boonies.
  18. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) I'm fairly certain the tooth brush was invented there. anywhere else and it would have been a teeth brush QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) That's because it's tough for women with only one leg to get up the pole. Ouch, harsh.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 07:37 AM) I'm sure there are no strip clubs there either. Nope, there are many. Nothing like good hypocrisy.
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) I'm in on that one. One time I was on vacation in the great north woods of Wisconsin and developed a nasty earache. I had been trying all sorts of home and OTC remedies for a waxy buildup in my ears. Finally I visited the Doctor and they set up a water pic and hydrogen peroxide. I'm thinking, wtf!? a water pic!? Sure enough, instant relief. Had to do that two years ago. I woke up and I could barely hear out of my right ear. It hurt like a SOB after a while. They couldn't get it to break up. They also decided to do my other ear, which I didn't ask for. And, to top it all off, I got an impromptu physical from my doctor. Sh**** day all around.
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) Biters? Is there anything better than suddenly finding a longish nail that somehow was overlooked? Indeed.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) Dang. You really have a thing for female sportscasters and reporters. Hey, why not? The two greatest things in the world, beautiful women and sports, in harmony. What more could you ask for? It's also not so much a sausage fest when it comes to sports in general down here. The lovely southern ladies love football and baseball. I'm just used to that.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:54 AM) Sounds exciting. Hey...I didn't write that. The first blank was for the word "Huff." And the second one was for the word "Tailpipe."
  25. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) I am getting good at this title change thingy....although it took all that is within me not to change it to Chuck Norris. It's not funny, man. Anyway, thanks. It was between "Dirty South Sider" and "Some Douchey Poster Named John."
