  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) Dan Johnson continuing to rake, his 6th homer. (I'm not 100% sure, it seems like he had another one in a game that was suspended or wiped out by weather or was this the continuation of that game?) He's the best current candidate at Charlotte for promotion to take the spot of Escobar or Morel on the roster. Golson, Phegley and Jordan Danks are also going good. Leesman pitching pretty well this season. Jared Mitchell with his 6th triple of the season, and 23rd/24th RBI's. Barons getting pounded, though. Saladino back at SS in this game. http://www.milb.com/gameday/index.jsp?gid=...jaxaax_biraax_1 Where do you get these ideas?
  2. The sad part is, Justin Greene is out performing KW Jr. dramatically.
  3. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 4, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) How does Ken Williams Jr get to stay on the Birm roster. He is consistently below the Mendoza Line and there are two legitimate outfield prospects in Shoemaker and Earley at W-S. The Kenny Williams Jr. line is .190. You think it's bad looking at the box score, imagine witnessing it in person. I wanted a rebate on my tickets last year for having to endure his awfulness. He has a curved spine too, seriously. It's curved forward at the top.
  4. Thompson out of the lineup, guess there was something to his removal yesterday.
  5. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) New foreign prospect alert (kind of): Garis Pena. 20-year-old from the Dominican. Spent three years in Toronto's system with sub .600 OPS numbers in the GCL and the Midwest League. He played shortstop for Kannapolis tonight and had 2 hits. It's weird that he would be playing in the Midwest League at 19 and then released. Was he a throw in from one of the trades? Released by the Jays, minor league FA.
  6. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) So the guy who supposedly had massive power potential and has only showed it in a HR derby has a massive swing? Gotta love the minors. Horse legs.
  7. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 3, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) Pretty awful April for Gilmore: .179 AVG (10-56), 0 HR, 7 RBI, 3 2B, 10 R, 24 K, 7 BB (.281 OBP, .232 SLG, .513 OPS) Limited playing time. Another KW Jr. victim. He is playing adequate LF though.
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 3, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) I think it's more the fact that he left in the middle of the game. It's worth following up on. I know, just saying it's probably nothing. We'll see if he misses the next game.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 3, 2012 -> 05:09 PM) How many outs did he make in 2009? Besides, it doesn't matter that his numbers were "good" or "not bad", they were not what you'd expect from an elite hitting prospect. Also, I do not give one damn about CJ Retherford as a comparison to any top hitting prospect. I only mention Retherford because he was the only player in the league who had more hits than Viciedo. And Marty, sorry for the insult, that was uncalled for, I apologize.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 3, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) And one thing, IIRC, that they needed him to work on was actually being able to pull the ball to more effectively exploit his natural power. Exactly, he didn't start pulling until the second half. But, he really wasn't getting anything to pull in the first half.
  11. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 3, 2012 -> 12:01 PM) Production in minors has been less than what you'd expect from an elite hitting prospect. And if he isn't an elite hitting prospect, how long do you wait for him to produce given that he only plays LF. his minor league numbers were good overall for such a young player. I wouldn't call 140 hits and 70 plus RBI's in 2009 bad in any way whatsover. Only C.J. Retherford had more hits...in the entire Southern League.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ May 3, 2012 -> 12:20 PM) W-S http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...wswafa_potafa_1 Trayce Thompson came out in the 8th inning. Not sure if it means anything after his 0-4. Hasn't missed a game all year, and today is a day game. No big deal probably.
  13. When he was in B'ham in 2009, he took the ball the other way a lot.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:12 AM) Fine, whatever you say. You're welcome to your opinion. Just messin' with you, dude.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2012 -> 12:37 AM) We all knew they were going to have to move Saladino at some point, so it might as well be now. It was simply a matter of whether he was better suited for 3B rather than 2B. He probably profiles as more a "plus" player offensively in the middle infield, although I doubt he has anything close to Beckham's overall range at 2B. The question is which eventuality is most likely...Beckham can put up a 700-725 OPS again or Morel can put up a 750? Beckham has at least proven he can do that for a 3-4 month stretch (yes, the counter to that is even Mark Teahen did it once in his career with KC)...Morel's done it for 6 weeks in mostly "garbage" time in the midst of multiple meaningless games when lots of inexperienced pitchers were on the mound against him. Not just because of the game he homered, but just in general, I'd argue that Beckham still has more potential going forward than Morel. I know you and Balta and others will disagree, that's fine. 1. Yada yada yada yada yada. 2. Bang the drum slowly. 3. And the band played on... 4. ...the one on the Titanic. 5. Do you sometimes notice you're having a conversation with yourself?
  16. I still am not impressed with Molina so far. He does have a good change-up, I think it's a change-up. He ran it in on the hands of a righty and completely buckled him. But he got hit hard today and his fastball was flat. Jacksonville is a poor hitting team and they hammered his fastball.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2012 -> 10:44 PM) There's one problem there, it makes just as much or perhaps more sense to be replacing Morel. You could write the same blurb and say Conor Jackson's been moved over to 3B in preparation for a possible Morel to Charlotte transaction. Man, you take an interesting tidbit and run with it until the horse is dead and bleeding.
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 2, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) Is this accurate? Yes. But regardless of everything, he needs work on his defense. He did hustle his ass off today on the bases.
  19. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) E: Martinez, O 4 (8, fielding, missed catch, fielding, fielding), Kuhn 4 (4, fielding, throw, fielding, fielding) Hahahahahahahahaha. They took away one of Kuhn's errors. So, 7 errors by the middle infielders, 5 of which were fielding. That can't be a coincidence, there's gotta be a reason for that.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 07:59 AM) Ok, well that's an interesting take. Compare him to how Morel looked at AA for me...does he drive the ball better than Morel? Morel didn't have as much loft in his swing, but he hit around .330 if I remember correctly. Saladino can drive a ball deep into a stiff wind. He can make you say "whoa" on a routine fly ball or one that dies on the track. I think he could be a Kinsler type if he pans out, maybe not as many homeruns though.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Always check for an AAP page...I tried to knock off most of our top 10 prospects last Winter, so Saladino has a nice one. I'd say the standout phrase is "Average across the board". Won't wow you with power, defense, speed, or average, but also shouldn't disappoint on any of them. If he can remain that way coming up, then he can become a reasonable contributor in an IF, but he's not projecting as the next ARod or anythign like that. I'd have to disagree to a certain extent about that. He definitely has legit power.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 11:26 PM) Justin Greene of all players hits a homer in the late innings to provide the winning margin for the Barons. Nevin Griffith with his first save. Castro gave up seven runs (6 earned) in 7 IP. Justin has incredibly quick hands and has been clutch in the past.
  23. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) notice McPherson didn't play in either game. Is he injured -- or on a plane to Chicago? He hasn't played in almost a week.
  24. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) Knights lost game 1 5-3 Not much noteworthy Knights won game 2 11-1 2 HR for Johnson, 1 for Danks Barons @ Montgomery 6:05 Castro Dash @ Wilmington 5:05 McCray Intimidators @ Rome 6 Carlos Sanchez is missing another game today, I'm not sure what's going on.
