  1. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) Why is Shoemaker still at Kanny? Really irritating, especially with KW Jr.. taking up a roster spot at Birmingham which he has done nothing to earn. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) Shoemaker isn't a prospect, way too old for the level he's playing at, that isn't to say that KW2 is a prospect. Also, Shoemaker's father isn't the GM of the Sox, if he was, then Shoemaker would probably be taking up a spot in B ham QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) He is technically a prospect. Not his fault he's rotting in low A when he raking (or as you said.. the politics). He is 24. Usually the ending/cut off of a "prospects" age (depending on who you ask) is 25-26. He might not be a top prospect (one of those guys you keep an eye on), but he is a prospect. Hell, he is one year older than Kevan Smith who was drafted this year and is in Bristol. (who I, as well as others here, like alot) As terrible as Bradley Salgado is (and yes I'm being harsh on him) he is still a prospect cause of his age. Goes both streets. I'm reminded of the wise words of the great Walter Sobchak..."This is what happens, Kenny! This is what happens when you f*** someone (pause) in the a**!"
  2. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) Nathan Jones has been really, really good for the last month plus. JPN, is the scouting report on him still the same? 95+ mph sinker and a power curve? Haven't gotten a chance to see him recently. The last time was right before his DL stint and he looked like s***. Fastball was only touching 92.
  3. QUOTE (LayelBurton @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) JPN, Its going to be very interesting to see what happens over the course of the next week or so a far as catchers. Adam Ricks was placed on the DL on the 5th of July, so he cannot get off until the 12th regardless. Charlotte will play tomorrow in Gwinett and then be off until the 14th for the All-Star break. This will allow Ricks to play after the All-Star break, if that is what the White Sox choose to do, but he may continue his "coaching" role since he has yet to see action thus far in 2011. The question then would be, who would the White Sox send as a back-up other than Ricks? Phegley is the most likely canidate, but would they rather him continue to start in Birmingham then play behind or split reps with Lucy? As well, if Phegley leaves then who becomes the catcher at Birgingham? Neither Price (.130/.237) nor Bour (.203/.258) have really put up the numbers wanted from a starting catcher especially at AA. I'd go with Ricks as the 2nd Charlotte catcher after the dust clears, unless we can pick up another AA+ catcher before the trade deadline. As far as tomorrow, Price should get the nod based on AAA experience, but be returned when Ricks is off the DL. I imagine Flowers will be up for a while, so if it's Phegley, I'd assume Lucy would back him up. Price is an excellent player/coach, mentor to pitchers, mentor to Phegley, game caller and defender. He's a catching first catcher. It could be Bour, it wouldn't be unprecedented based on the promotions that have occurred so far this season. Oester's a perfect example of that. The biggest factor is that there is no point in Birmingham carrying three catchers. I could see Ricks taking the backup roll in Charlotte and Luis Sierra and Bour swapping places, which would still leave W-S with one open roster spot.
  4. Sorry if this has already been posted... Thoughts and/or prayers for Willie... Link
  5. Hey Layel, do you think with Flowers moving up that they'll activate Ricks for an extended period of time to back up Lucy? Or, do you share my opinion that they'll move Phegley up to Charlotte since B'ham is carrying three catchers right now? Or maybe move Price up to back up Lucy? Phegley was off tonight, for what it's worth.
  6. To be fair, Mitchell is coming off an injury.
  7. QUOTE (LayelBurton @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Andre Rienzo to DL Brandon Kloess to Bham Chris Bassitt to Winston-Salem Somebody might move up from B'ham to Charlotte to fill Harrell's spot.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) Really JPN? So, the Gold Glove caliber defense and slightly under 2B average offense of Gordon Beckham is worse than the .002 BA points higher Smoak who plays at an offensive position. Yes, Gordon is an easy call. If you had Smoak, you don't waste the dollars on Dunn. I like Beckham, I just wouldn't take him over Smoak.
  9. Pence would hit under .200 if he played for the White Sox.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) ...........And, he's only 19. A high upside high schooler in the first round?! That's not how the White Sox roll. Trout and Smoak or Mitchell and Beckham, that's an easy call.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) I hope he gets a chance to be an everyday major leaguer. Seems like a good kid. He is. I wonder why the White Sox would be trying to clear another 40 man spot? Big deal going down?
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) Cooper was on the radio Sunday night and gave them both shout-outs. You never know, but they might have to make room on the 40-man for that to happen. According to his Uncle Mike, Terry is eligible for the Rule 5 draft after this year.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Brady Shoemaker's progression. April: .295/.357/.420/.778 May: .301/.333/.485/.819 June: .333/.454/.573/1.027 July: .391/.576/.565/1.141 (so far) Kid is ready to make the jump if there's an opening. There was, but they promoted John Spatola.
  14. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) This is not sourced or anything, but I would guess high 80s with the fastball and a solid change-up and curveball. Has the quintessential Minnesota Twins prospect look. Not going to overpower you, throws strikes and doesn't beat himself. He can get up to 92-93 with the fastball.
  15. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) Yet he continues to hit leadoff. Strange. BA wise, not good for July, only hitting .207, but the power numbers are there. Four extra base hits in 24 ABs. I assume it's just to get extra at bats since he missed so much time.
  16. QUOTE (LayelBurton @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) Justin Greene to DL So they send the Barons a third catcher. Luis Sierra would've made more sense.
  17. The Barons now have three guys in the starting lineup that are the sons of former major leaguers.
  18. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) Isn't Beachy's upside pretty minimal? Anything for Pierre would be fine. Hell, take Brooks Conrad, he's at least clutch.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 10:23 PM) I guess it all depends on whether you fall in love with him in a few years on Birmingham or not. A good man is hard to find. Or, am I just a w****?
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) I'd take a sack of damp jockstraps for Pierre. His name is Kenshin Kawakami.
  21. Jason Bour promoted to Birmingham, Stephen Sauer activated from the DL. Don't know what that means for Josh Phegley and Jared Price in B'ham. Price could have been released, traded or DL'ed.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 10:23 PM) I guess it all depends on whether you fall in love with him in a few years on Birmingham or not. I'll hold my breath.
  23. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ED. I HOPE YOU CAN HEAR THIS.
  24. What's the over/under on him sucking?
  25. John Spatola to Winston-Salem. Figured Brady Shoemaker would've been moved up instead.
