  1. I think Matt Zaleski is going on the DL too. He left yesterday's game with an injury. I think the injury was walking 7 batters. Adding Whisler and Remenowsky would give Charlotte 25 active, so Zaleski going on the DL would make sense to get them to 24.
  2. I don't know if this has been posted, but Josh Fields had his contract purchased by the Yomiuri Giants. The Rockies released him in order for it to happen.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) Hudson/Gio both dominated last night as well. But I digress. For now, anyway. Gio Gonzalez is a wonderful human being.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 07:41 PM) So why has Oester been promoted twice already this year? Hit .105 in low-A, and hit .252 in High-A......and he strikes out a ton. Organizational guy who fills out a roster as a back up infielder. B'ham was shorthanded and needed another position player.
  5. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) Ahh there we go. I guess I should be better about checking the Dash's Twitter. Thanks. Not sure why they neglected to send an e-mail about Bayne, Buch and Petricka.
  6. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) I know better than to doubt you on this stuff, but these moves aren't on either roster yet. The Dash are usually very good about updating that stuff. Petricka is already there. They sent out a press release about Santos and Oester moving, but not Petricka which I find really strange as well. They are now. Petricka, Buch and Bayne were mentioned on the Dash Twitter. Buch isn't listed on the DL, but he is on the roster attachment in the Santos/Oester e-mail. Whisler was sent back to Kanny, Nunez was activated, Gilmore was finally listed on the DL, Eveland was moved up to W-S and Matthew Lane was added to the Bristol roster.
  7. Kuhn is far and away better than Getz. And I liked Getz a lot. Getz never hit over .350 for an extended period of time like Kuhn.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) I remember you saying the same thing about C.J. Retherford... and David Cook. C.J. busted as soon as became a higher profile prospect. I don't know why he completely lost all of his ability. David never has never been given a proper shot at AAA with the White Sox, Astros or Reds.
  9. The Barons outscored the Smokies 18-6 in the five games against them this week.
  10. I don't understand why people want to doubt Tyler Kuhn.
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) So...LEFT HANDED SCREWBALLL AKA The Rainbow of Devastation. That's one nasty pitch.
  12. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) The problem is all you can do as a leadoff hitter is get on base and steal bases. Scoring runs isn't your responsibility. It's the responsibility of the people behind you to drive you in. Maybe you shouldn't be praising Larry Walker and Todd Helton behind him. And that's what Kuhn does. He gets on base. And, with two .300 hitters behind him, he hasn't had to steal a lot of bases. The Barons offense has thrived with him leading off this year and last.
  13. QUOTE (LayelBurton @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) Carlos Sanchez to Kannapolis Orlando Santos to Winston-Salem Jacob Petricka to Winston-Salem Cameron Bayne to Birmingham, Ryan Buch to the DL. Bayne may be just making a spot start for the Barons. Him and Santiago were both scheduled to pitch tomorrow.
  14. According to his Twitter, Jacob Petricka has been promoted to Winston-Salem.
  15. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) 100-pitch complete game shutout for Doyle. Heck of a start. It was outstanding. Terry's an impressive pitcher. He works quick, Mark Buehrle like quick, he attacks hitters, doesn't nibble, trusts his defense and is incredibly composed. He pitches even better with runners on base.
  16. For the third time this year, C.J. Retherford has been released. This time by the Detroit organization.
  17. I guess Tony Pena will be activated from the DL tomorrow and Santiago will head back to B'ham.
  18. Now that you're legal, drinking is overrated.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 04:45 AM) 1. So what are Kuhn's other "plus" tools besides hitting? It seems he's got decent speed, but maybe a step down from Lillibridge/Getz and certainly Chone Figgins in his prime. Figgins was really an igniter and game-changer at the top of the line-up.... 2. What is the reason that he's never even profiled in the Top 30 before this season? 3. If he was to have ONE best position, what would it be? Does he have to be moved all over the diamond...ala Jose Oquendo...or is he the type of player who could be a regular at one position? Looking at the White Sox down the line...we're still not certain about 3B, 2B and LF (although odds are it will be Viciedo barring a trade). I'm guessing he can't catch, which is what we really need! 4. What is his arm strength and range at SS and 2B? Does he go better to his left or right? Can he throw from deep short flat-footed or jumping? 5. How would you compare him to Lillibridge, Pablo Ozuna or Willie Harris? 1. He's a solid defender. 2. Don't know why. 3. 2B 4. Good enough, he plays more at 3B than SS, so he has a good arm. Fine either way. Haven't seem him do that. 5. Better than Ozuna, better hitter for average than Lillibridge and Harris. More versatile than Harris.
  20. QUOTE (NHDadUmp-RI @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) Nice story in the Birmingham News. http://www.google.com/url?sa=X&q=http:...n85to4XITLRonyQ Pitching must be easy compared to teaching kids.
