2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 08:36 PM) Walker still has a ton of upside, but it's in the same erratic/inconsistent way that Rodon does... Imagine if we got that return for, let's say, Rodon and Frazier (or Saladino), would anyone be happy? Segura was almost a non-tender guy last offseason and had a huge bounceback year, but can you count on that if you look at his numbers year by year? Walker/Marte are not equal to Rodon/Frazier. Segura had his best year last season so they indeed sold him high... but he also did have a 3+bWAR season on his resume. Again thou, I know nothing about the other two pieces going to Seattle - whichever I'm sure had something to play in this movement.

2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)
Segura just put up a 5 bWAR season and Walker hasn't had more than a 1.5bWAR year. They're getting two extra years with Walker... I know very little about the other pieces. If anything - Arizona must really believe in Walkers potential. Surely this confirms the value of our chips.

Hey look, a real trade! That surly also helps enforce the value of Sale / Q.

Where Chris Sale’s Numbers Fell Off a Cliff
QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 06:24 PM) Another example of why we need an overhaul with our pro scouting department. Avila, Navarro, Jackson, Latos, Rollins, Lawrie, Shields, and goes on and on over the recent years They should have hired me in 2011.

SOURCE: 2 horse race between Dodgers and Astros
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 07:05 PM) One would think that...but their rumored interest in Mike Napoli would say otherwise. And if Gurriell is a better 3B then Todd can easily play 1st for them as well. I have no idea if the Napoli rumor is true or not, but if it is I'd have to imagine getting Frazier on a reasonable 1 year deal would be pretty enticing instead. Fraizer would mash hardcore at Hustons home park.

White Sox' slow start to offseason CBA-related?

SOURCE: 2 horse race between Dodgers and Astros
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 06:16 PM) They were actually incredibly reasonable. Lots of good stuff in there. Indeed, there were a few voices of reason advocating Sales value... even defending the notion that Bregman's inclusion is a must.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 06:07 PM) No offense guys, but the Astros aren't giving Springer & Bregman for Sale. If you honestly think that's possible, you're in for a world of dissapointment. But using WAR as a basis for that stance is just plain deplorable!

Berry interesting - thanks for the post.

Houston would hate giving up just Bregman alone Read some of the fan posts on their Soxtalk equivalent here.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) If I am trading Sale I want to build farm system, by time Sox start being good Springer is gone. Also I believe he is a FA in 2020. If they execute things right, becoming a contender won't take 5 years. They have more assets going for them to aid in rebuilding than any team I can think of recently.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) Springer has way less team control than I would want for a team rebuilding. Dude isn't a free agent until 2021. That's a lot of control dude.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) Ok, I ask again...can we assume these guys are going to duplicate their performances for the next 6 years? Springers production is proven. Bregman is more of a prospect than Beckham ever was. Of course you can't assume it but you can weigh the risk.

SOURCE: 2 horse race between Dodgers and Astros
Springer and Bregman are both protectable 5 WAR players annually. Springer hit 5 WAR last year in his first full season and Bregman nearly hit 2 WAR in 44 games. Sale's highest bWAR season was 6.9. A trade for Sale for those two players alone would be a massive overpay. If it happened, we should all be elated and send Hahn Hersey Kisses, Bubble Bath, Red Wine, and Roses.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) Just curious, what is the track record for Carpe Diem calling trades in the past? It's irrelevant, as he isn't claiming to be a source.

QUOTE (Carpe Diem @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) In regards for the Sale derby. Red Sox actually appear to be telling the truth when they say they won't pony up the price it would take to get Sale. Apparently Bregman and Springer are being dangled (not together) but the team still would ideally prefer trading him to the NL. Take this with a grain of salt if you want, but my source has been right about everything he has said so far dating back to 2014. Good. I'd be happy with a Dodger package including Urias and Bellenger +++ or an Astros package with Bregman ++++ or Springer +++++. I bet the Red Sox change their tune and come in with an offer last minute when they see we aren't balking. Edit: is your source someone who is also employed part time as a circus act?

Four year control guys off the table(JQ,Nate,Eaton)
Here's my best guess: Everyone wants Sale but is saying, "we won't give up X - so let's talk Quintana." This 4 year crap is a way to say "give us what we want or get nothing."

The Rebuilt White Sox
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 11:50 PM) I have a question: Why does everybody want to 'rebuild' when we already have a ton of good players? And a lot of awful players. But our front office could rectify the situation by adding a few in free agency. Look, do you trust our scouts to trade for the right young guys to rebuild?? I don't. You keep this amazing starting rotation intact and do these things... 1B - Keep Abreu. 2B - trade Frazier, play Saladino if his back is OK. SS - Keep Anderson 3B - Keep Frazier Infield prognosis: Very good infield offensively and defensively. LF - Trade Melky CF - Keep Eaton RF - Trade Avi. C - Pay one in free agency. DH - Pay one in free agency. Outfield prognosis: Admittedly not great. Bullpen: Sign some, trade for some. Look, a total rebuild is insane with this pitching staff. Our scouts suck. I don't trust a total revamping of the roster. You are looking at a 40 win team if we trade Sale, Q, Robertson, Frazier, Abreu. Lackluster effort, brother man.

Four year control guys off the table(JQ,Nate,Eaton)
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Yessir. Your post is all that matters, and it should really be PMed to every member at the beginning of each offseason as a reminder. Best to just ignore it all until it's formally announced. I learned years ago what a fruitless waste of time it is giving interest to people with sources, or those who get pride from cracking a story an hour before it's announced- what a colossal waste of a man's time. Even if a story is cracked early it still doesn't become at all interesting until all the pieces are known. And that only comes from a formal announcement. Yup. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) Hang in there Sox fans; hope we get a BIIIIIG bat! Ewww.

Four year control guys off the table(JQ,Nate,Eaton)
I wouldn't be surprised if right now the Dodgers are telling teams they "don't really want to let go of Puig anymore because he has shown encouraging signs". The point it this: You can't trust a damned thing in the media during an offseason.
