Here's the rationality behind Danks, for me at least. 1.) We've already got three lefty starting pitchers penciled in for the future in Sale, Q, and Rodon. Having a fourth lefty rather than two RHSP's isn't ideal in my mind. 2.) I've pretty much given up on Danks after holding out hope for his return to form last season. 3.) If we ate a good amount of his contract or traded him as a part of a package for another player with a bloated contract... we could indeed get him off our books.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 10:37 AM) Of course they can be very wrong, buyt FWIW, the scouting consensus on Tomas is that he is very likely to be vastly overpaid and has a better-than-average chance of being the first truly big-time Cuban bust. From what I've read, a lot of guys think he's eerily similar to Viciedo, but with a bit more footspeed and a bit less arm. Well, at least we all know that our front office has one of the greatest Cuban Scouting assets in the league... AKA: Jose Abreu.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) IF Otani comes to the US, it's a no brainer to go balls deep into trying to get him on the south side. I'm not sure it has been confirmed that he'd come over just yet though. Dude sounds legit. Jesus. Wet dream.

QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) I was actually coming in here to post something similar to that. I think some posters in here would rather us pick number 1 than finish 1st in the division. I agree with Kenny...although I didnt think we would be going for it this year(I thought maybe 2016) I still think its a good option. This gives you a pretty good sense of what the offseason will be like too. Absolutely not. If the Sox can get into the post season those in the draft order choir wood be happy. The band gets singing when it's a chance to get a high draft pick and finish with an aweful record as opposed to getting a middle of the road pick with a mediocre record. If we could pick 30th every year, that's the preference. If it's between picking 3rd or picking 16th... At that point I'm rooting for losses. There's a difference between being rational and being a complete Debbie Downer imbecile! -

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 07:50 PM) Wait a minute...does anybody think Tank will be starting for the CWS next year? I thought him gone was a given. KW says they plan to compete so why would Tank be on the roster? I guess raise your hands if you don't think tank wil be gone. It's possible in my eyes for him to be on the roster. -
This thread, being in The Diamond Club, was meant for speculation / predictions beyond the White Sox.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) Why do we need to do this all over again? This topic has been trampled, beaten to death, and then served as a smoothie. Be like Frozen, and Let it Go. Time to get off the marry go round. This thread is over so much as my eyes are concerned. Even the entertainment value is gone now... waw.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 06:43 PM) Wow just heard Tyler hit his 15th homer. Hell he almost hit as many as Viciedo this year. Their offensive stats are surprisingly similar and I find that very sad.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 11:21 PM) After watching Erik Johnson down the stretch in 2013 and then completely destructing in 2014, I'm not going to believe in any rookie pitcher unless they can produce over at least 3-4 months of starts...and, even then, they'll probably run out of gas in August/September. Johnson is absolutely in the anomaly category. His numbers say a lot but don't tell the whole story. Erik just plain lost his stuff and you don't see that often from a youngster. -

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 08:36 PM) Just watched the highlights. Man, Bassitt looked good. Had a bad ass curve ball, a good tight slider and the fastball looked like it had some decent sink. Anyone think he has a chance at making the rotation in 2015? Just asking is all because I really don't know. But according to most of Soxtalk after his first start - he was s***. -

QUOTE (professa @ Sep 21, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Avi Garcia's numbers translated to 550 ABs: 26 HRs 99 RBIs 51 BBs .793 OPS Yummy. Also, it's not unreasonable to expect an improvement since many of his at bats where of the "getting reacclimated" variety. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 07:58 PM) I don't know how many of you go on Facebook, but these days, it's just 10,000 pictures of Derek Jeter... but this was a pretty cool comment: It's a great post - too bad he looks like a shaved cracked out happy ass santa clause retard fist pumping his imaginary friend.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) That's one thing I'm great at. Don't trip hommie. Just because one person can't seem to get through your posts doesn't mean others do not benefit from them. Even if the entire world overlooked your writing, it's still a moot point. This site is here as a forum for your expressions. If you enjoy having that outlet, then I'd encourage you to keep doing what improves the quality of your life. My choice here is to utilize the space to be light hearted, idiotic, witty, sincere and at times analytical. Most of the times thou, it's just idiocy. Which is absolutely needed in my life. Kids, wife, business, house payments, emotions, family, friends, clients, obligations... Yea. There's a definite need in my life, for a place like this, where I can poop on s***. Again, I'd encourage you to continue exploring your passions and may also suggest you lighten up a bit? Sorry you took my idiocy in a personal way. It was intended to make myself and others laugh. At the time I wrote it, I believe my wife had just snapped at me for feeding the baby and giving her a kiss on the cheek. Yes, postpartum is a challenge and Soxtalk just happens to be the small corner in my small universe where I can be the class clown. Bottom line: don't let an idiot discourage you.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 20, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) If Hahn could go back in time and not make this trade I'm sure he would, but I'm also sure he'd have traded Reed for someone else & had he the benefit of hindsight he'd acquire somebody's Montas or something, some kid who gets it/turns it on out of nowhere and shoots up the rankings. That's not realistic though, obviously. The Davidson deal makes me think of Marcus Semien. You often have two types of prospects, the "baseball player" types and the "toolshed" types, and although some are more towards the middle it seems like most are more one than the other. Davidson was more the tools type than the baseball type given the swing & focus on raw power. Semien is more the baseball player type with solid skills all over the place but not really anything that wows you. Reed's value was probably good enough to bring back either type of player - and forget about the Top 100 s***, because even though Davidson made the list and Semien didn't it doesn't mean that a lot of scouts wouldn't have preferred Semien to Davidson. Now I know Hahn couldn't have traded Reed for Semien because he's already ours, but the point I'm making here is that there are often 2 roads to travel when trading a player like Reed (i.e. a non-star, above average closer with stuff more like a quality SU guy than an electric closer). You aren't getting some great prospect without any major flaws/question marks, and generally you're either going to get a player like a Davidson or a Semien. Both can turn into above-average MLB players if everything goes right, but in the end, neither generally make it. Hahn went with more of the ceiling type but had he picked up a Semien type, a "baseball player" type instead then Semien is a perfect example of another guy who so far hasn't made it and didn't light the world on fire in AAA. In the end Hahn got fair value at the time. He made a move he needed to make at the time, and because young players aren't free and he didn't have much to trade, he gave up Reed. Hahn correctly observed that, at the time, Gillaspie didn't look like a long-term solution, neither did injured Morel obviously, so he identified an area to improve and tried to improve it. Further, in giving up Reed he didn't set the forward progress of the organization back; Reed just isn't that kind of talent & there's no reason another strike-thrower closer like Petricka can't do just as good of a job as Reed would have. The downside on the deal was pretty low, and right here we are sitting pretty much right on the downside of it, and really we're not in some horrible spot now because of it. Hahn made the right move at the time & it didn't work, so what, that happens, and it's going to happen a lot whenever you are acquiring unproven MiLB players. Usually they are going to bust.
