Josh Johnson?
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) Wonderfully said. Johnson makes a ton of sense. Certainly a risk, but as you said, the exact type of risk a team in the SOX position should pursue - that is if competing next year is a priority to the FO. There are many here who would say it isn't, and shouldn't be. Not that I necessarily disagree, but I'd always prefer to watch a winner. Hell, even if they're not competing by the deadline and someone like Johnson has built value on a one year deal... Hello rebuilding/retooling/reshuffling/restocking/reupping trade at the deadline. How's that for retooling vs rebuilding?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) I think Kung Fu Panda is a possibility. Don't mind the player at all. However, it's a bummer that he only has one year left until he's a free agent. In my mind, any trade target will include multiple years of control.

Josh Johnson?
I wouldn't mind taking a flier on Volquez if possible. Really see a SP dealt this offseason with a couple of Cooper project vets being brought in on a mission to revive or stabilize their careers.

With Abreu Signing; Konerko Not Out
Start the season in the 6 or 7 spot. If he starts to show a turn around, move him up.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) I can't wait to see JOSE ABREU hit this year. This thread is no longer about him lol Yea, we bounced all over Not much more to say about Abreu unless Cubano somehow resurfaces.

With the amount of good arms in this crop, I'd be shocked if turner is take second. Hell, it's possible he falls past the top 5 picks. Picking at number 3 - we're extremely likely to get turner if that's who Hanh really wants.

Personally, I think the fire McCann shows is refreshing. Something we've needed since the departure of AJ.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) •"Depending on what is considered major," Abreu's signing will probably be the only major White Sox free agent move of the offseason, MLB.com's Scott Merkin writes. The Sox could still make further moves via trades, as Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham have drawn some interest from other teams. Per MLB Rumors This better not be all free agent wise for Hahn and bringing PK back does nothing for me. It's all posturing. Just like Hanh said the DAY OF the Abreu signing that nothing will be happening for a while. It's that time of year to read between the lines and rely on critical thinking. 2 + 2 = 5

Regarding Salty, less strike outs please.

With Abreu Signing; Konerko Not Out
I personally think Dunn will have his best year in a white sox uniform next year. Contract year and he's got a ton of work to do in repairing his rep. Stranger things have happened. In my ideal lineup, he's hitting no higher than 6th.

Next years draft will be interesting for sure. Turner, Gatewood, Hoffman, and Kolek would be picks that made me happy. I don't know the four well enough but my order of preference is probably... Hoffman Turner Kolek Gatewood Thinking we end up with Turner and I'd be happy with that.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) Right out of the draft??? That doesn't happen. I was going to say rarely... Like, super freaking rarely. Only pick I can think of really is Sale.

Josh Johnson?
I think he's a big sleeper for the Sox who could allow us for ability in trades from our position of strength. Would like to see a one year deal with a team option. What'da ya think, SoxTalk?

QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) Why is everyone assuming we are definitely going to sign another big name? This may be our only signing. Probably for a few reasons... The major two being a multitude of free cash and gaping holes. Gaping holes... Gaping... Holes....

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) I just can't believe people call a guy that hit 25 home runs as a 23 year old rookie a bust. He struggled last year. A sophomore campaign in which he only had 470 PA's due to injuries. I'm with ya... Brotha. Seriously think Dayan has a great chance to break out this year if he can stay healthy. Sophomore slump / growing pains / injuries are how I define his 2013. Still have mucho faith in The Tank!

QUOTE (staxx @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 06:06 AM) my exact thoughts.. i'm beyond ecstatic, but the bleacher report scouting thing that said he struggles to cover a 92 mph inside fastball... that doesn't exactly scream MLB hitter. I don't really understand where this is coming from. In Cuba, scouts aren't allowed to set foot near a live game - let along bring a radar gun in. In his WBC games he hit almost .400... So you're telling me that a hitter better than Cespedes and Puig can't turn on mediocre heat? I seriously doubt it. I will only believe this scouting report if it becomes evident during spring training. The guy hasn't been a big strike out guy so far in 7 out of 8 seasons in Cuba. If he has some thou me in his rookie year but can make he adjustment - that's all that matters and really, to me... That's the most likely worst case scenario.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:30 PM) I really doubt we have the money for mcCann but if we were to some how sign him I might s*** my pants everyday till opening day, and I wouldn't even care. He's a perfect fit and is young enough could be + production we desperately need. I just don't know if Hahn has it in him. Anyone know if he was asked that at the fan conference call today? We've got the $$

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:20 PM) Absolutely love this move, couldn't be more excited. We've filled our biggest hole with the best free agent available at the position. Here's what we currently have for next year offensively: 1B) Abreu 2B) Beckham (or Semien) SS) Ramirez 3B) Gillaspie/Keppinger LF) Viciedo CF) De Aza RF) Garcia DH) Dunn C) Phegley Catcher & 3B are the only true holes IMO. I think Hahn will try to address C in free agency, as the idea of entering the season with Phegley as the starter is quite frightening. At least with 3B we should be able to get reasonable production from a Gillaspie/Keppinger platoon. Still a long-term problem for us, so you got to think Hahn will explore trade possibilities. It's amazing how much better shape we're in after this one move though. Call me silly if you want but McCann, AJ, or bust.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) BTW, they LOOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEEE Keppinger I'm game for him to have another shot at staring 3B. Hoping he can prove last year to be a fluke. Would much rather trade a SP for Lowrie and move Kepp back into a utility role.
