QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:06 PM) I never said the Bears overpaid, and I also don't understand how you think the Broncos didn't get market value. They got more than what a franchise tag would cost. Two firsts, a third, and a QB who is more than capable of being decent for them especially in the New England system that made Matt Cassel look like a beast. Denver made out very well in this deal when you consider they didn't go from Cutler to nothing, they went from Cutler to Orton while also acquiring two first round picks and a third rounder. I thought they got excellent value for someone who wasn't their guy anyways. You just made a mistake by saying Denver easily won the trade... they went from being the favorites or contenders to win their division to a probable 4 or 5 win season next year. Denver didn't win anything.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) My Packer fan "friend" is totally trying to undermine it. Even said that it is risky cuz he has diabetes. I'm a Bear fan in the heart of Packer Country and all of my incoming text messages have read along the lines of, "F**k you"

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) Denver picks 12th and 18th, they wont have to trade up to get Sanchez. I hate to derail the thread, but with Sanchez's recent pro day workouts...he won't fall anywhere near 12th. If he somehow fell to #11 (he won't) every team behind Denver will try to trade up because Denver's current starting QB is neckbeard. Just because Denver knew this horrible day was inevitable due to being unable to reconcile with Jay...that doesn't mean it wasn't horrible. My uncle is a current Broncos Season Ticket Holder who is looking to unload them after this. People are jumping off of roofs in Denver.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Do yourself a favor turn off ESPN. I did that a while ago...had to be the worst analytical piece I've ever seen on ESPN, which is really saying something.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) The ego that is the Bell Belichick regime just handed the Bears Jay Cutler, thanks Bill. I wonder what Denver's response to Bill is right now...

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Yeah you're right they don't, and like I said the Bears needed this.. but Denver could easily draft Mark Sanchez this year or wait till next year and if they do suck this year could get a Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford anyways. Either way, Denver isn't in a bad position at all. They'll have to trade up to get Sanchez...which they could do with all of their draft picks. Regardless...would you rather have Sanchez, McCoy or Bradford over Cutler? I believe we would be hard pressed to find an NFL Exec who would. Denver was in much MUCH better shape before they inquired to deal for Cassell. McDaniels tenure (which I believe will be short) will always be regarded as a salvaged one.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) As for the price, if this trade works out how we all hope it does, next years 1st rounder will be a low pick, so well worth it. If the Bears improve on this year's performance...the pick could be in the 20-25 range. The Bears aren't giving up as much as people are making it out to be. I'm as big of a proponent of the draft as anybody, but don't kid yourself...a franchise QB is worth a lot more than what the Bears had to give up.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 2, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) Denver easily won this deal, I don't know how you can argue that.. Franchise QBs don't grow on trees...there isn't a fan base more familiar with this saying than Chicago. When is the last time a team traded a 25 year-old Pro Bowl QB coming off of a 4500 yard season? McDaniels is pretty full of himself if he thinks he needs a QB more suitable to fit what he's trying to do...After Denver goes 4-12 this year, McDaniels may be looking for a new job.

Good find and an even better read.

I buy Getz and Fields at 2nd/3rd...but they won't hand CF to Owens. No way.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) They did just ask for money from the Brewers in the proposed deal for Cameron, just sayin. Cameron picking up 10 million next year is probably the reason why.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) If we put AJ back in the 2-hole, Ozzie should be fired on the spot. It was understandable last year as we had absolutely no one else, but if we actually go into the season with AJ batting 2nd, I'm gonna puke. Agreed. The 2 spot needs to be a table setter...we took the bat out of AJ's hands by batting him 2nd.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) Traditonally, a team that doesn't waste any outs by moving runners over at the expense of at-bats tends to score more runs then a team that does. Traditionally, you have to play small ball in September/October. The pitching is too good to just get on base and hope your power comes through. If you get a leadoff man on with nobody out, you should almost always bunt him to 2nd giving your lineup two chances to hit him in while avoiding a double play. Over the course of the season if you want to look at it as "wasting out" that's fine. But when it's the pitcher's time of year and your taking every run you can get...you've gotta be able to bunt.
-
QUOTE (Felix @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) Who cares about bunting? Ozzie does.
-
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) AJ is probably the front runner, but if we acquire a good leadoff hitter to play center, I could see Getz as our number 2 I think this is what will happen.
-
QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) Getz, Alexei, Beckham, Lillibridge. Take your pick. I've seen very very little of Getz. Can he bunt? If so, I'd like to see him get the chance. Alexei better not even be considered in the 2 hole because he's a 30 HR guy next year.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) Obviously the roster isnt set yet, but what are we looking at as possibilities? I cant even think of one option I halfway like, from where we stand right now. You can add leadoff hitter to this mix as well. Good thing it's only mid-December.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 01:21 PM) I'd feel a lot more confident in Bailey, Cabrera, Marquez/CR/AP battling for two spots than just Marquez and CR/AP battling for two spots. I expect slight regressions from Danks and Floyd, and it will be our SP that makes or breaks us in 2009, just like in every other season. I'd much prefer Richard as the second lefty in the pen and Poreda working on becoming a starter in Triple A alongside Marquez. I think this assessment is right on point. I disagree that Danks will regress, but you could have it either way.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) -Mentioned now having the inventory to make that deadline move that he hasn't been able to make in years past because of a lack of a farm system.(I mentioned that last year, that Williams is finding out how important it is to have those pieces). I believe I remember you saying something similar to it being essential to having a good farm system. Once KW realizes that it'll make his job a lot easier. Thanks for summing up the interview for those of us who missed it. It sounded like a good interview from KW.

No way we get Gallardo. Parra maybe, but the Brewers won't move a MLB pitcher until they know whats going on with CC/Sheets. It sounds as if Sheets will accept arbitration.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) Tony Gwynn Jr. is actually a pretty solid defender though. Agreed. However...we have enough 4th OF on our team.

I live in the Milwaukee area and know a lot about the Crew. They sent 10 players to the AA All-Star game last year... When the Brewers call you about a guy you're interested in moving...you listen.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) Off topic yes, but: Yes, the Gasol deal smelled rotten then, and it hasn't it gotten any fresher. It was a deal the Grizz could have made with ANY team, but they choose to make a team in their own conference that much better for at least 5 years - makes absolutely no sense. There has been always a double standard when it comes to how the league treats the marquee franchises. There were tampering rumors galore when the Lakers got Shaq, but nothing came of it. Yet they don't think twice about crippling the T-wolves for years over the Joe Smith fiasco. The NBA NEVER would have punished the Lakers, Bulls, Knicks or Celtics so harshly. If D Stern actually wonders why people don't really TRUST the NBA, he only needs to look in the mirror. Agreed.
