QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) Konerko, Dye, and Pierzynski are all pretty bad contracts. Tolerable, but not preferred. Those contracts are fine.

QUOTE(max power @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 01:19 PM) Detroit's #2, #3, #4, and #5 are question marks and they seem to be the soxtalk favorite to win it all. Well, some of them are even question marks. They are proven below average. The Tigers gave away too much pitching in Jurrjens and Miller. Don't get me wrong, I'm very envious of the Tigers and their expectations next year...but they'll wish they had one of those guys when they find out that D-Train can't get anyone out. Not to mention their bullpen is one of the worst in baseball. I expect big things from the Tigers next year, but their potential "Achilles Heel" is obvious.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 12:49 PM) There was nothing we were going to do this season that would rob us of having question marks. Making every single huge deal that people have wanted here would have still left us sitting as probable outsiders in the AL Central. I totally agree. As much as KW as been ripped on this board, (some deserved, some undeserved) people should give him credit in the fact that he hasn't sold out on our young arms. If there is any way we can compete with the Tigers, Twins and Indians in the future...we need a few from the likes of Danks, Gio, Floyd, Broadway, Egbert, De Los Santos, Poreda to step up and make a contribution to our staff in the future years. Giving young arms the chance to step up can turn a franchise around quicker than most people realize.

QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Dec 15, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) we've already drafted danks once, i personally think that in this case once is enough. We never drafted a Danks before.......we traded for John....

QUOTE(BureauEmployee171 @ Dec 15, 2007 -> 12:24 AM) Our list will be made up and provided - from there - it is not up to us where a player goes and why. When you have that final list....just go ahead and post it on here. Thank you in advance.

QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 07:56 AM) I am simply not ready to deal PK yet. Either is Jerry Reinsdorf.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) But the phrase earlier printed in this thread presents him as both a supplier and as a user. I would certainly count him. You'd have to count him.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) Most of baseball was using steroids. When it comes to baseball players and steroids I tend to believe in guilty until proven innocent. Fair enough. But where there's smoke....there's usually fire. There is a lot of smoke around the Yankees. Too many Yankee affiliations are in there for someone not to suggest that they didn't care about a particular player's affiliation with HGH/Roids.
-
My friend who is a Yankee fan just told me his opinion about the list: "Easy thing to do is just not care about it." Easy for him to say when almost half the list is Yankee affiliation.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 11:30 AM) Not so fast. A previous report by WNBC naming many prominent MLB players, including Albert Pujols and Roger Clemens, has been disputed by an MLB official who has seen the Mitchell Report. Rumors have been flying all morning about the potential names that will be released, though nothing has been verified. While WNBC's reported list seems plausible, it is likely we won't know the true identities until the report is officially released That MLB Official should've said "but yes Gagne is on the list" at the end of that statement.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 07:56 PM) Stop handing the CF job to Owens when we have the grace, speed and hitting of BA. Oops! Say hell to 2008 CF and lead off man.......Jerry Owens.
-
Gagne! YES!!! If you'll excuse me...I have about 30 text messages making fun of my friends that cheer for the Crew.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) Its quite possible to be intelligent and just not have people skills or negotiating skills. I believe thats what we have here That could be. I just want to see KW come out and talk s*** about Billy Beane again. He could answer in a PC about Beane- "It'd be so easy I could crush him like an ant. Instead, I'll bide my time...oh what the hell! I'll just crush him like an ant."
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) Can you imagine how many moments there would be of you appearing immature or silly if you were always being filmed? KW comes across as immature or silly just about once a year it seems. That whole negative rant on Frank was a joke.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:43 AM) Again, I am not trying to stifle criticism or commentary. But to claim he is "not smart" is absolutely inaccurate. Do you remember the press conference after the Mike Sirotka trade? KW acted like a 6 year old.
-
QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) Actually, the behavior most people associate with "immaturity" can be a sign of intelligence not average intelligence. It comes from getting frustrated when other of less intelligence around you cannot understand or comprehend what you are saying or doing. Not to say that KW is necessarily intelligent but your assumption that immaturity=average intelligence is inaccurrate. So immature people are intelligent? Are you kidding me?
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) This is from deadspin. Take it for what it's worth please. They said that they received the same list from multiple sources. I have bolded the truly important names. link Can you say Albert Pujols? Again, please take it for what it's worth. We'll know very soon if this is true. LMAO at Gagne. I live near Milwaukee and am surrounded by Brewer fans......OH PLEASE LET GAGNE BE ON THAT LIST!

QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) I heard Fukudome tested positive for Ginseng. I love when you search youtube for Fukudome....cheap Jap porn pops up. (After posting this, Jap porn hits on Youtube have just gone up 70%).

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) Please don't use Kenny going to Stanford as evidence he is smart. He went to play sports. He didn't graduate and I think was only there for a year or so. I've always said this to my friends. KW's immaturity shows how average his intelligence really is. He's no smarter than Joe Schmoe down the street. I know a lot of brilliant people are arrogant, but KW doesn't fall under that category with me.
-
QUOTE(max power @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 01:25 AM) Unlike what seems to be every soxtalk member Max Power doesn't initialize....

He could have his own music.... "Big Bad Emil Brown! Baddest Man in the Whole Damn Town!" :headbang :headbang

QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) I'd assume Kershaw, Kemp, Billingsley or Broxton, plus more...Yikes. I'd love that deal. No way in hell that'd ever happen. You just listed all of their top prospects.......no kidding you'd love that deal.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 05:01 AM) Except that Santana is quite clearly the best pitcher in the game, having won 2 Cy Youngs, a career 3.22 ERA, a career WHIP of 1.09, and 4 straight years of 219+ IP, whereas Bedard has struggled with injuries in the past and has NEVER ONCE gone over 200 innings in a season while owning a career ERA of 3.83 (good, but not Santana good) and a career 1.34 WHIP; he's a great #2 starter, but I wouldn't hold him much higher than that. The past year and a half (post all star '06 and all of '07) Bedard: 269 Innings, 3.14 ERA, 304Ks, 1.15 WHIP, 18-10 Santana: 321 Innings, 3.08 ERA, 342Ks, 1.05 WHIP, 26-14 Your point about Johan being a lot better than Bedard......well yeah. Johan is a lot better than everyone else. I think the only SP you could put in Johan's class would be Peavy (as far as his '07 and his actual stuff) but even that is subjective. Johan had a down year for Johan in '07, but he probably had one of the best post all-star breaks ever in '06. But to say that Bedard isn't an ace is a joke. I'm sorry. I usually agree with you and your posts...but this comment floored me. Breaking down Bedard's career numbers just don't do him justice with the fact that ever since Mazzone had started to work with him.....he became lights out after a few months. Just ask Boston/NYY how good Bedard was last year. In 5 starts against those clubs he went 3-0 with an ERA of 2.05 in 35 innings of work striking out 34. If you're the kind of guy that needs to see years and years of success, then perhaps Bedard isn't worth liking. But give me the promise of the future over the glory of the past time anytime. Going into '08, Bedard is the 2nd best left hander in the game and is without question an ace.

Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand

QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) Two years of Roberts for 6 years of Gio and 6 years of Richar? No thanks. Look at what Richar's projections are for next year. I think Bill James's handbook has him at a .280/.340/.440 level, which is close to Roberts career average. Richar and Egbert, yes. Richar and Broadway, yes. Not Richar and Gio. To deal for Roberts we'd have to deal Gio IMO. I understand we need Gio.....but the whole go for it now mentality may require a big time lead-off hitter. You certainly could label Roberts just that.
