  1. Usually for the Super Bowl there is one team I'm pulling hard for because I can't stand the other team (like the Giants over the Pats) but this year I don't mind either team.
  2. Seriously if you think that NSS is a lefty parrot you're either not paying attention or you have a really distorted worldview.
  3. He's not saying it's because of his policies per se
  4. I see your point SS but I don't see how bmags missed it
  5. Taking an idea from one of the commenters on that video, I'd donate $100 to Sarah Palin's PAC if she had a similar session in front of the Democratic caucus and they asked real questions that aren't scripted and she hasn't had time to prepare. I'm dead serious. That would be pure gold.
  6. Also the last question from that guy from Texas was hilarious, he was rambling on and on and Obama interrupted like "is this a question or are you going to just make me sit and listen to your talking points?" Then when he finally did get the question out Obama basically destroyed his argument.
  7. I watched that hour and a half Q&A session and there was one point that Obama kept coming back to over and over whenever the person asking the question complained about their ideas being ignored. He kept saying, "you guys keep saying you have ideas, I actually read your bills and analyze them and when I think it'll work I incorporate them into my platform, but no matter what I do you guys categorically refuse to support it because you've been telling your constituents that I'm a Communist committed to destroying America. WTF, can't you see what's wrong with this picture? Your base is going to vote you out if you actually try to get anything done because that's how you set it up." He really did have his ducks in a row on that one, I don't know if they were expecting him to come out swinging on so many of those answers.
  8. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) What was the total amount of snow that occurred, what, thirty or forty years ago in Chicago? I remember there was that one ridiculous day people refer to. Granted, it was before the reinforced snow plows and snowblowers of today, but it had to be somewhere around 2 to 2 1/2 feet. 1967? I think it was 23 inches. Obviously I wasn't around then. Record for snowfall in Chicago in one day is 19.8".
  9. I missed the entire 2005 World Series except for slow ass score updates on the phone (I did kind of look in disbelief when I saw "P. Konerko homers" and showing the 3 runners that scored, I thought, was that really a grand slam?). Thank you United States Army for sending me to a s***ty mandatory course. Thank God for DVD.
  10. QUOTE (juddling @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) I missed Devin Hester's kickoff TD return in the SuperBowl a few years ago. Walked in to hear cheering and say the replay. Probably the only good play for the Bears that day..... Jones's 52 yard run and Grossman's TD pass.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) While I agree he should be opposed to this suggested surcharge, considering his team has spring training in a $200 million publicly financed facility where there is growing question how much this may bury the Glendale community, and a publicly financed stadium during the regular season financed by a tax on hotel rooms, where I cannnot see how that is fair to the hotel industry or their patrons, he is being a bit hypocritical. When publicly financed structures get built for private businesses, there are usually more than a few people who can say its unfair. Whether Jerry is being a hypocrite or not (I actually think he is being one, personally) is beside the point. I still fail to see how this is relevant to what the Cubs are trying to do right now... because Jerry arm-twisted his way into getting a new stadium with public money 20 years ago (as if this was uncommon), some Cubs fans think that the Cubs should be given a pass to make fans of other teams pay for their stadium? Really? What the hell? I mean, I love the Sox and all, but if Jerry was trying to do the same thing to other fans I'd be with the "crying foul" crowd.
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 07:02 PM) Randle is the all time leader in sacks at the DT position, made 7 pro bowls compared to Dent's 4, was 1st team All-Pro 6 times compared to Dent's 2 and also made First Team All Decade for the 90's (voted on by the HoF voters), no such honor for Dent. Basically, Randle is considered a top 2 -- if not the best -- tackle of his generation by the people who vote for the Hall of Fame. I don't know why I was thinking Randle was a DE when I wrote that. Same thing though, obviously Randle was going to get in, I never had any doubt about that. But really though how long are they going to make Dent wait?
  13. I saw some Cubs fans complaining about how New Comiskey was financed with public money and how Jerry is being a hypocrite, honestly I fail to see how that's the same thing. Yeah, it pissed a lot of people off at the time, but that investment's probably paid for itself a couple of times over by now, and plus it's an ACTUAL stadium, not a spring training facility. They're just b****ing for the sake of finding fault.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Fox News probably gave him a big offer as soon as they saw his piece. So they give it up on the first date at Fox News? Maybe I need to start hanging out there.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 06:15 PM) And the Dems are? They just react to losing their seats a little differently. The Republicans get threatened and decide to bomb more people. The Dems act like Pygmy Marmosets. lol Balta I didn't expect you to use the same argument as the conservatives "are you saying they don't do it too?" Of course the Dems do it too, I was just talking about Republicans in that post. The Dems are too disorganized and scared of their own shadows to actually know if they are supposed to be serious about something or not.
  16. Dent still doesn't get in after like 20 years but Randle does relatively quickly even though they have the same # of sacks for their career (or so says some quick, not-that-deep googling I just did). FFS, who does Dent have to blow to get in?
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) Oh, I absolutely agree with that. It's part of what pisses me off about Republicans. They don't really get it, either. They kind of think they do but not really. I wish they did and if they ever did I'd probably be a Republican tbh, much in the same way I'd be a registered Dem if they weren't such p*****s about everything and caved in to everything all the time. The GOP isn't sincere about anything anymore except electoral advantages. f*** them.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) I've been somewhat amazed at the sheer duration of the school cancellations here after it snowed last Friday-Saturday. Schools were still being canceled a full week later. Yeah that takes a lot of getting used to. I still am pretty dumbfounded that they're so risk-averse here. It's not like they don't have the budget for minor snowfall or something, it does actually snow here every year, it's not like this is Miami.
  19. People don't have snowblowers here, there's no reason to spend all that money when there might be 10 inches of snow for the whole year.
  20. Chicago gets like a foot of snow at one time pretty routinely and it takes a lot of snow for people to actually change their plans and/or stop what they're doing so I really have to laugh at the people that live here every year when they go out and form long lines at the grocery store when there is 3 inches of snow in the forecast and they cancel school before the snow actually falls. But 2 1/2 feet is a lot of snow for anybody, I don't care where you live, you can't just go about your life getting around as if there was NOT 2 1/2 feet of snow on the ground just because you see it more often.
  21. You people act like I didn't grow up in Chicago.
  22. This is the hill in front of my house - normally you can see the next row of houses across the street but not now. That snow bank is about 5 feet high after being shoveled, you usually can see my car up there but it's nowhere to be seen. My car buried under about 28 inches of snow.
  23. I was supposed to go to a Super Bowl party this weekend, and my friend wants me to drive to Sterling VA which is by Dulles Airport, which is pretty far away from me. That's like the equivalent of living in Chicago Heights and driving to Elgin or some s***. I signaled that I might not go and she says "how you gonna back out on Friday?" My reply was something to the effect "I didn't know you wanted me to drive 60+ miles the day after a historic blizzard cripples all civilization in the mid-Atlantic region"
  24. I almost forgot all about Gordon Beckham Sucks in the Day
