QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) My wife and daughter turned my seven year old granddaughter-my litle buddy mind you-against me last year and now she likes the Red Sox. I am still working on the kid, but took Nana and Mom out of the will Dude I honestly had no idea you were that old, I figured you were only a few years older than me at most.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 11:11 PM) If you want an example of how in-depth Secretary Gates has thought through his budget, take a look at the Littoral Combat ship. It's terribly over budget. But he kept it. Why? Because despite being over budget, if you start making them, you basically are producing a fast ship for a lot less money than a destroyer, frigate, or carrier costs. Which is exactly the kind of thing you need against smaller, insurgent type threats. Like, say, Pirates. The situation in Somalia right now is an excellent example of how our military just is not built to face off against the asymmetric threats the U.S. is encountering in the 21st century. Which is why cutting back on the big ticket items and focusing in on the things we need is so important. Because tying up $5 billion worth of equipment because a couple pirates hit a container ship is a terrible way to use resources in the long run. /pats self on back for screaming for President Obama to keep Secretary Gates and invites bmags over to share the spotlight

QUOTE (Cochise @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) I like how there was absolutely no mention of the bottom of the 8th. Whatsoever. I turned this game off in the 7th and I'm only following for comedic value. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 10:43 PM) Hanley Ramirez is going to be a baseball god, he's already one of the top 3 most dangerous players in the game. Moving to the 3 hole is only going to make things worse for the opposition. I honestly think his only peer as a total player is Pujols. -

That may have been the most pathetic relief outing I've ever seen... did MacDougal even throw one strike? I can't remember. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) Really JD? You have got to be the slowest motherf***er in the MLB. You can't say that and be serious with the knowledge that Konerko bats right behind him. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) I think you may be confusing Rachel Maddow with Randi Rhodes, who's a lot more vehement. Maddow comes at things strongly from the left (i.e. no one else out there has actually questioned whether sending more troops to Afghanistan is the right move), but Rhodes was the firebrand. You're probably right.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) From everything I have seen, I'd say O'Reilly is probably the most centric of all the prime time "news" shows. Some might disagree with me, but O'Reilly is pretty much in the middle, IMO. He is socially conservative, but most of his other views are usually somewhere in the middle. In fact, most conservatives really dislike O'Reilly. I think the thing with O'Reilly is that his reputation really precedes him. He's pretty loud and opinionated and he's definitely conservative, but he's not really that bad at all. I'd take him over someone like Hannity 10 times out of 10.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) So does this mean you dislike msnbc as well? I really don't, but I do watch Morning Joe (Scarborough is a Republican btw) and I admit I watch Olbermann sometimes just because he makes me laugh.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) 9-11 conspiracy theorists did not host a prime time show on a major cable network. Wasn't Rachel Maddow pretty "out there" on Air America with some of her views? I like Maddow and I think she's pretty sharp, but just saying. I never thought Beck was that bad FWIW. I used to read his commentaries when he was on CNN and he made a lot of sense. Every now and then he'd go way over the top though but you kind of knew it was coming when he did.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) For over the past 100 years, people have identified themselves as democrats moreso than Republicans. There was this real good chart in my gov book that showed how much more people identified themselves as democrat than republican. With this knowledge, you'd assume Democrats would win everything, but Democrats are not as loyal to their party as Republicans are. With all these polls and such, most people do identify themselves as more moderate or conservative than liberal or progressive. So, IMO, elections basically come down not to party affiliation, but rather who people identify themselves with more. As for the future, I think we will see a reverse of what we saw before (Republicans in the office, dems in the congress). I think Democrates will dominate the office for many years to come, but people will want balance and vote republican for congress. I did that, actually. House Dems are a joke, it was kind of a symbolic vote though because Dems win my district every 2 years in a blowout.

Meh that was already the case and it doesn't just apply to this. It sounds kind of ridiculous to put it in words like this, but the government can only be sued when it wants to be sued.
-
QUOTE (almagest @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 12:52 PM) Yeah, this'll most likely get tossed out of court pretty quickly. Probably, I mean you can't sue a team or MLB for getting hit by flying baseballs, bats, etc. so I don't see how this is different.
