Sox stick it to the Royals again although a disappointing game for the HUGE crowd on Monday night. Bullpen looked shaky but starting pitching does it again for the Sox. 1 Game back, here's some answers: 1) Who will win the series (CHW/KC) (2 points)? CHW 2) Who will have the most hits: Ordonez, Everett, or Lee (2 points)? Lee or Everett 3) How many errors will the Sox make (4 points)? 4 4) In which plate appearance will Frank Thomas get his 2000th hit (1st, 2nd, etc.) (4 points)? 4th 5) How many hits will Paul Konerko have (5 points)? 4 6) How many batters will Bartolo Colon strike out (5 points)? 7 7) Which Sox player will have the most ABs in the series (4 points)? Carl Everett 8) Whose bullpen will give up more runs (CHW/KC) (2 points)? CHW 9) Will Jon Garland have a quality start (Y/N) (2 points)? No 10) Will Mike MacDougal get a save (Y/N) (2 points)? No TIEBREAKER: Total attendance for Monday August 4th (including me!) 43,922 THE WINNER: Mathew 16 (-4322) THE STARTERS: cwsox 14 (-1229) whitesox247 14 (-2422) moochpuppy 14 (-6689) Flash Tizzle 11 (-5497) JUGGERNAUT 9 (-5422) Winning Ugly 8 (-11922) bones r 6 (-2787) rafacosta 6 (-3917) THE BENCH: IndySoxFan 6 (-4921) MartePartay 4 (-3929) SAVVY18 4 (-4099) CubsSuck1 4 (-7922) THE LOSER: Soxheads 4 (-11356) Stay tuned when the Stockings take on the Athletics.

AHAHAH what are you looking for Desi??? Obviously not a fastball right down the middle!! SOX WINNER!!
-
Gordon is officially struggling again.
-
The real question is: will the Sox win a home playoff game? I actually like our chances if we don't have home field advantage in a playoff series. The guys won't be all pressured to perform at home in games 1 and 2.
-
Yeah at least D'Angelo could hit HRs once in a while. Why did we trade him again?
-
Like I said before, since the media has basically forced JM to use a set lineup 4 or 5 days a week, he has to turn his tinkering ways to the bullpen.
-
18,000 walkups?? Wow this is good news for Sox fans, it is also good news for:
-
WHY IS KOCH COMING IN?? Honestly if he does well it's still a bad decision by Jerry. Koch has done nothing to earn this chance to pitch in a tight ballgame. Maybe the fact that there's 2 out makes it a little better. I still really really really don't like this decision.

What happened to Olivo? DJ said possibly hyper-extended his shoulder. I don't think it was serious as Miguel got up immediately after the play. I don't think he'll be out more than a couple of days.

Did that Big Hurt at bat remind you of the one against Guardado in that extra inning game? He fouls off a bunch of pitches including a couple of line drives foul that were absolutely smoked. Then he finally gets his pitch and does exactly what he's supposed to do with it. Frank is done worrying about 400 HR, he's done worrying about 2000 hits, he's ready to hunker down the rest of the season. Watch out AL.

Wow are you in my Poli Sci class or something? We are talking about all that stuff. That being said, Mearsheimer has some pretty militant ideas regarding the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Some of which need to be taken with a grain of salt or twenty. Meanwhile the biggest problem with non-proliferation seems to be the haves dictating terms to the have-nots. In my view it is almost an inevitability that developing dissatisfied powers like North Korea and Iran will aspire for nuclear weapons because of the international leverage they provide. Nukes are much less a tool of military power these days in the way that there is a very low probability that a state will ever intentionally use one. The problem is with unstable governments and nuclear weapons getting into the hands of the wrong people. These people could conceivably face none of the responsibility if they decided to use such a weapon. Many theorists favor the abolition of nuclear weapons worldwide but I believe this could be a serious mistake. A total elimination of nuclear weapons along the lines of START would create an unstable multilateral balance of power in the world. A situation similar to the world before World War 2 where without the prospect of nuclear intervention, conventional warfare was much more common.

Long story short, Sox show up on Friday then take the weekend off. I hate the West Coast. 1) Who will win the series (CHW/SEA) (2 points)? SEA 2) Will Scott Schoeneweis pitch at least 3 innings (Y/N) (2 points)? No 3) How many errors will the Sox make (4 points)? 1 4) Which Sox infielder will get on base the most (4 points)? Roberto Alomar 5) How many strikeouts will Bartolo Colon have (5 points)? 8 6) How many home runs will the Sox hit in the series (5 points)? 4 7) In how many innings will the Sox score three or more runs (4 points)? 3 8) Will Carl Everett have more than four hits (Y/N) (2 points)? No 9) Who will have more RBI in the series? Maggs or Konerko (2 points)? Konerko 10) Will Mike Cameron hit a home run (Y/N) (2 points)? No TIEBREAKER: How many innings will the bullpen pitch in the series? 7.0 apu has an unbelievable round. Not the first time that has happened THE WINNER: sideshowapu 24 (+1.1) THE STARTERS: JUGGERNAUT 20 (+2) CubsSuck1 18 (0) IndySoxFan 14 (+2) YASNY 12 (-1.2) Soxheads 12 (+3.2) bones r 10 (-0.1) SAVVY18 10 (+0.2) Flash Tizzle 10 (+1) THE BENCH: Mathew 10 (+2.1) elrockinMT 9 (0) whitesox247 8 (0) Winning Ugly 8 (+1) rafacosta 8 (+3) southsider2k3 8 (+3) abozichiu 6 (0) MartePartay 6 (+0.1) Texsox 6 (+1) moochpuppy 6 (+2) theoldroman 4 (-1) THE LOSER: cwsox 4 (+1.2) And sorry cw on your losing ways but remember it just means you are due to win some soon.

All I can say is at least we didn't waste Marte today. I guess that leaves the freshest guys in our bullpen Wright, Marte, and Koch...ummmm Damaso can pitch a couple innings i hope? Or E-Lo CG
-
Does anyone else feel like the pitching is starting to go South as the lineup heats up? Also since Jerry can no longer tinker with the lineup he has to get as much tinker pleasure as possible with our bullpen. Also, it would be nice to have a manager half as emotional as Tony Pena. That's all I'll say about that.

Really? We must have been sitting in almost exact same spot.
-
I was hearing that noise in the late innings. It was so loud I thought it was coming out the speakers but it only came from that one spot in the LF upper deck. Me and a few others were thinking wtf is that noise. I was also getting pissed at all these people down in the bleachers trying to start waves. They had been trying for a couple innings and finally the wave did get started the whole time we're yelling them to sit down and watch the game but nobody cares. Then the wave comes and EVERYONE joins in but the wave tonight did not last nearly as long as the wave I saw a couple weeks ago. Still I hate sitting behind a bunch of women and children that get up and go to the bathroom about every 5 min. Then they get back and get up to go buy food, then they come back 10 min later go buy souvenirs. Some people really just need to learn how to sit down and watch a baseball game.

Garland had not been pitching effectively the whole game. The point is Manuel wasn't sure how well he could trust his new reliever in Schoeneweis. Manuel has a tendency to overuse new relievers like when we first got Marte or the beginning of 2003 when we had Gordon and White in there. JM will take a new reliever and use him while he's hot and use him and use him until he becomes a discontent piece of s*** like Rick White. Thankfully Schoeneweis will stretch out for a starting job next year and has shown he is vulnerable. Then again Ginter showed he was vulnerable in Seattle so I don't think he was the best choice to pitch after Scott went out.

Jose Valentin is one of the most guilty members of the "Playing down to the level of your competition" club. He and often Carlos Lee only seem to get up for big games. Jose always seems to get his big hits against division rivals: Royals and Twins or the Cubs series. I can't remember Jose having many big games against teams like Detroit, Cleveland, or Tampa Bay. He just seems to disappear during those series.

I have Cable in Schaumburg and it used to suck. This was back in the @Home and later ATTBroadband days. The company did not have enough gateways/routers and there was a huge bandwidth problem in this entire area. Within the last year or so ATTBi improved their service and now Comcast has taken over and continued to improve the reliability of the service near DSL quality. Here is the thing, cable can be awesome for a great price but there is some risk of congestion during peak hours. Your DSL line will probably never download as fast as a cable line unless you pay the big big bucks for the highest speed DSL service. I like DSL for running servers sometimes but for the highest speed downloads I would recommend cable. You should probably read about the cable company in your area though and make sure they have a decent reputation.

I'm home for the weekend so all my YNOT numbers are at school. Results for the Mariners series should be up by Tuesday sometime. Here are some questions for the Royals series: 1) Who will win the series (CHW/KC) (2 points)? 2) Who will have the most hits: Ordonez, Everett, or Lee (2 points)? 3) How many errors will the Sox make (4 points)? 4) In which plate appearance will Frank Thomas get his 2000th hit (1st, 2nd, etc.) (4 points)? 5) How many hits will Paul Konerko have (5 points)? 6) How many batters will Bartolo Colon strike out (5 points)? 7) Which Sox player will have the most ABs in the series (4 points)? 8) Whose bullpen will give up more runs (CHW/KC) (2 points)? 9) Will Jon Garland have a quality start (Y/N) (2 points)? 10) Will Mike MacDougal get a save (Y/N) (2 points)? TIEBREAKER: Total attendance for Monday August 4th (including me!)

wow this is fun
-
The only thing I'm worried is how this team responds. Earlier this season Seattle came in and pounded us and we slumped below .500 and out of the spotlight for the next couple months. I hope these guys can maintain their good hitting approach and not worry about changing anything because of what happened in Seattle.
-
Yeah I'm upset too and Buehrle really let me down with the way this inning went, but in all our minds I think we know that nobody is going to "run away" with this division.
-
Wow I really wish I hadn't turned the game on today. Turned it on in the 5th inning and it just won't end. Winning pitchers don't turn around and walk guys in the bottom of the order. I just don't like how we give runs back when we take leads so easily.

I know Cotts isn't ready and needs to get some big league control. Just the thought of Harden Cotts matchup does stimulate me though. Perhaps 2004 will be the year.
