QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) that and the fact that if colon and contreras stay healthy(yea thats a huge if) , we have 5 potential aces. no other team in our division can say that. I wouldn't go so far as to say aces but we definitely have the makings of the most solid rotation in the division. I really think that right now we have fewer questions than any other team, it's only a matter of time b4 the count and doughboy get completely healthy if not already.

I've read that he's pretty poor at 1B and could be a future DH in the making if he doesn't improve. However, he is a good athlete and has lost weight recently so if he continues to work hard who knows. Pujols used to be a pretty crappy fielder and now he's gold glove level.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Escobar with a solid single for his first hit of the spring. I guess he'll be playing in Winston-Salem behind Beckham in the pecking order. Beckham will be playing in b ham -
It didn't even cross my mind that a bunch of you are probably pretty stoked to have Cutler coming to Chicago. I'm a Raiders fan so I think he's pretty much a whiney douchebag but I'm also glad that we don't have to play him twice every year anymore. The Bears sure gave up a lot to get him but his arm strength will certainly be useful in the winter months.

There's a reason why he's a 29 year old who spent the season in AAA and hasn't ever really gotten a full time chance at the bigs and that reason is injuries. He's had major back problems for a long time and was out of the game for a couple years, from about 06-07 I think. He's had a couple of vertebrae fused and you never really know if his back will hold out long term. He's also a butcher at 3B but that's besides the point. Also- I doubt he'd want to sign with us as he wouldn't really have much of a chance at playing time. We've got Fields and Viciedo blocking him not to mention pretty good organizational depth at 3rd with Retherford and Morel in the lower levels. He'll probably sign with a team where he could legitimately get some PT like the Yankees or he could even sign with the Twins and they could have two 3B with bad backs.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 02:00 AM) It's an April Fool joke obviously. But it's not that big of one. Even if this is true it's nothing earth-rattling. Out for the season after slipping in the tub? LOL. Come on, that's the best you got? QUOTE (chwhtsox @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 05:59 AM) Seriously? Wise is suppose to get people upset around here? Go big or stay home...shoulda said Quentin reinjured the wrist, they're moving Wise to left and Owens to Center. The rage doesn't allow them to think rationally and realize it's April 1st. Step it up man... I wasn't trying to go big. Wanted something somewhat believable. Also, thought it would be funny to think of having JO back on the team after so many have been waiting years for us to dump him only to bring him back a couple days later.
-
Apparently DW hurt his knee pretty badly slipping in the bathtub at home, he might be out for the season, the team has pulled Jerry Owens off of waivers and he'll be our everyday CF and leadoff going into the season. HOLY CRAP, I thought JO was gone forever. http://rotoworld.com/sox_wise/13{

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) We take a look, if things go well maybe we can make a deal with him and then see a young guy If things go really well, then it's a win If things revert to bad, we see a young guy In my view he's not keeping out anyone who is blistering awesome AS WELL as being well suited for relief, so we'll go with it. agreed. we don't have any young bullpen arms that are breaking down the doors to get into the majors so I personally want to see what he can do. we are a bit short on quality righties in our pen so it definitely strengthens the team to have him performing well.

QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Lillibridge with his 3rd hit of the day... a ground-rule double driving in a run. maybe he's starting to figure it out, hope so.

Little Danks gets an AB.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) If you think cracking 100 K is bad discipline then you'll be shocked to see how many highly touted prospects K at a much higher rate than that. Of current and former top prospects in our organization, Fields, Anderson, Nix, Allen and Flowers have cracked that. Shelby would have easily cracked that last year if he'd have played a full season, Viciedo will almost certainly crack that if he's down there all year, so will Jordan Danks, and it just goes on. Beckham and Getz are pretty rare. Why do you think Jeremy Reed was such a huge prospect for us? Lilli actually walks (through his minor league career) at a pretty good rate (career .352 minor league OBP). I'm sorry but you will never convince me that 129 K's vs 36 BB's as he had last season is anything but a terrible K/BB ratio, on top of that, he's a leadoff type hitter, not a slugger. Power hitters will always K more often than speed guys.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) 177/381=2.15 I think 3-1 isn't beyond the realm of possibility, at worst, 4-1 for the last player on the bench. We can live with it because of all the other skills he brings to the table. Seems like he was trying too hard to impress his teammates and justify the trade in the first 2-3 weeks of ST. could be, i'm just playing devils advocate. he certainly has been hitting much better over the last couple weeks and he got off to about as bad a start as he could have.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Who is this Gregory Infante the Sox just put in to replace Danks ??? minor leaguer iirc

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Check his minor league stats out. They're a much better indicator of his ability than a few AB in ST are. 2008 (AAA, MLB): 36 BB, 123 K, about 1 BB for every 3.4 K 2007 (AA, AAA): 40 BB, 119 K, about 1 BB for every 3 K 2006 (A, A+): 87 BB, 104 K, about 1 BB for every 1.2 K 2005 (A-): 14 BB, 35 K, about 1 BB for every 2.5 K Obviously the small sample size in ST isn't the end all for him, but based on those numbers and now looking at his minor league numbers, he does not have good plate discipline, in aa and aaa he put up some big k numbers and those numbers will almost assuredly increase in the majors unless he makes some major changes in his approach
-
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) For all of our worry about Lillibridge, his avg is up to .266. That's not too bad. Yeah but he has a horrible OBP and his BB/K ratio is horrendous, like 1/20

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) Since we're talking "fake prospects" and we're playing the D-Backs, I'll add Luis Terrero to the list. i remember watching a game in 07 where he got a start and the announcer said he was a legit 5-tool prospect
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) Well, compared to Owens/Wasserman/Gonzalez in 2007, this is like heaven to have all these legitimate prospects. .the White Sox seem to have more faith in him than the Braves ever did, that has worked miracles in the last decade with players other organizations have given up on. We'll see if it can happen again this time. true

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) Didn't Cabrera say the problem wasn't calling the scorer but contacting someone in the White Sox FO to take up the case for him? That sounds a lot better than for a player actually trying to call the press box to me...still, glad we've moved on from a financial standpoint and we can't help but be excited about Getz, Ramirez, Lillibridge and Beckham. I can manage to temper my excitement over Lillibridge

box score counts Wise as getting a triple, no error on Young.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) I hope C.J. makes him eat those words. CJ is pretty grindy. An undrafted FA who keeps moving up in the system
-
How is it that Lilli is considered a defensive asset when he has 5 errors so far this spring??? Thats a big number for so few games. Second question-- how is it that this guy was once considered a top prospect, as far as I can tell he doesn't really have any baseball skills other than speed.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) Just curious...what's the source for this move? I saw on MILB that he's listed on the Birmingham roster, but how reliable is that? On CJ Retherford, I haven't really followed him, but based on his 2008 I don't see how he could be asked to repeat Winston-Salem. If he's a good 3B, I hope he's moved up to Birmingham. He could be a nice trade piece. He absolutely deserves the promotion. He was an undrafted free agent coming out of Arizona St. and hasn't done anything but mash the ball since we signed him and stuck him at 3B

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) Gammons says the rumor is Boras wants $50 million for him and will send him to Japan if he doesn't get it. The draft must be slotted. I know that's what he's saying but it will never happen. To date I think that the largest contract to a draft pick has been about 12 million. 50 mil is 4x the biggest ever contract, that is just not going to happen, BUT, to think that he'd get about 20 million, that could be a real possibility. -
Rosenthal: Melky Cabrera is on the block; Sox would be good fit

QUOTE (rangercal @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) Top Tier organizations would call it a need. Respectfully disagree. Honestly, how many teams have a true leadoff hitter i.e. high OBP base stealing threats??? Jose Reyes, Sizemore, Victorino, Ichiro, Ellsbury, Figgins, Brian Roberts. Am I missing anyone?? The rest of the league gets by with guys who have some deficiencies in their leadoff capabilities so I'm just not too concerned going into the season with Getz or Ramirez in the 1 spot.
