QUOTE (beautox @ May 16, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) So to continue on the question found through out this board? are both CJ and Stephan legit prospects and if so what would be their prospective floor, median and ceiling? I think that CJ is a definite prospect, he's done nothing but hit the ball well since we signed him progressing through the minors at a steady pace, never had to repeat a level. His floor I think is a AAAA type player. Median would be a solid major league regular, probably at 3B but maybe at 2B or even a corner OF spot. I think a .265-.275 hitter, .330 OBP .750-.850 OPS, maybe 15 HR a year. Ceiling would be a fringe all-star player. He can achieve this only if he #1 finds a defensive position to stick at, #2 his plate discipline improves and he starts walking more often, and #3 the power that he's shown in the minors translates to the pro game.

We'll finally have an answer to the age old question, does Jesus have a better fastball than Dexter Carter.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 15, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) Gerst 2-3 with a triple at W-S. Red hot since being moved up. Morel made his first error of the season. Pretty nice streak comes to an end. Gerst has played in only 2 games but it's still nice to see him with a HR and a 3B in those games.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) Can we start talking about Torres coming up as the new 5th starter if Richard can't hack it? yes please

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 14, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) I'd love to see some film on Nathan Jones. He throws pure filth but was just crazy wild in college. He had trouble finding the strike zone some last year too but seems to be putting it together. Reportedly he sits in the upper 90's with his fastball and has a curve that is just a hammer.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 14, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) I guess Gerst is one of those guys who does better at the higher levels. I was surprised to see that he took Danks' place in W-S but Bureau was on here a couple years ago saying that Gerst was a legit prospect with Jacoby Ellsbury type skills. The jump to high-A is a time where you can really see if a player has the goods or if he's just a fake getting by on talent alone.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2009 -> 08:55 AM) Oh and this is about the time I think you should expect to see the Cuban tank break out. He's had over a month to get situated and I think this is when he adjusts and you'll see him really go on a tear. I would not be shocked to see him by August. I would. He still has a brutal K:BB ratio.

Nother CF prospect who could be available for us when we pick at 23. He didn't play much as a frosh but put up respectable numbers as a soph- .307 .400 845, 7-2b 4-3b 4hr 24bb 36k 11hbp 12sb 3cs. He's turned into a Baseball America scouting report mlb.com scouting report Brett Jackson Q and A

QUOTE (qwerty @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:39 PM) No he isn't. Not here and off the top of my head no where else in the majors either. This line up is not strong enough up and down the order to put him anywhere else but either one or two. Getz would be the best nine hitter in the majors arguably. As we know nine hole hitters are generally the very worst hitter on any given team. Getz plate discipline is something no one else on this roster can give us at the moment. I do like the idea of having a very good nine hitter, which getz would be, but only if two players are brought in, who year in year out produces at the top of the order. This will be highly unrealistic as we will have even greater needs to address than the top of the line up this off season. Only in extreme cases (when a player is signifigantly worse than everyone else on the roster) will you see the worst hitter on a team bat 8th instead of ninth (in the american league), but it can be very useful, over the long haul. Over a full season if (which is yet to happy in recent history)the pitcher bats 8th rather than 9th the outcome is a total of two whole runs. Getz is ideal leading off as it currently stands. If we can bring in a a right handed top of the order hitter i could see the logic in moving getz to the two hole for the sake of righty/lefty/righty, though that could be debateable if getz does not show at least medicore XBH ability this season... he would be better suited sticking at one. I personally believe getz will be just fine if we give him for than 21 games to make judgement. I am led to believe he is currently the least of our problems. Well put.

He's not going to get 50mil, not even close, that's just Boras doing his thing. He'll probably end up getting between 15-25 million which is still a s*** ton of money but it's doable. If we were in position to draft him then you have to do it. How do you explain to your fans why you passed on the best talent in the last decade b/c you were too cheap to pay him (pay him with our money as fans none the less)
-
He's been getting lots of attention this season and has been dominating lower level talent that he plays against. Here's a few diff. scouting reports on him. I like the fact that he's a good CF, we need to find a long term solution at that position and although we have some talent in the minors in the OF none of them are a sure thing. Keith Law's take on him MLB.com scouting report Just read a blurb about him on Baseball America and it said that he has a strong arm, good speed, and avg. power. It said that he might be the best 5-tool talent in the draft. Also said that he had a sweet lefty swing which I will have to disagree with, I watched some video of him taking BP and his swing definitely had some weird hitches in it. That was just BP though so it might smooth out a bit during the game.

QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ May 10, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) Lucy and Cassel (had no idea we had Matt Cassel's brother in our system) collided on a pop-up in like the 4th that resulted in Cassel spiking Lucy in the back of the head, he was down a bit then played a few more innings before Armstrong came in. I get to watch that boring Charlotte team again tomorrow night! Too bad Contreras wasn't down sooner... last year I caught Uribe's first rehab stint start which was a nice surprise. any time someone gets spiked in the back of the head the team they play for is no longer boring.
-
Charlotte v Rochester very boring team, not much to talk about. however, Eidier Torres is hitting 300 with good speed, i'm curious how we got him as he plays a premium defensive position and is only 26. He hasn't ever really gotten a chance in the bigs. no Birmingham game. W-S v. Potomac Shirek gets the win in an 8K game. Kanny v. Lake County Kuhn with 2 hits and his 9th SB on the year. Dexter Carter gets the loss with a very strange line 5.0 IP 10H 7ER 0BB 11K, he was obviously hitting his spots and had good stuff to K 11 in only 5IP so he must have had some bad luck with balls in play. Gilmore had his 10th E on the season and was 0-4 at the plate.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 9, 2009 -> 08:21 AM) It's to early to panic. Plus as soon as this type of thing gets posted we start to hear about trading our stars who may actually still be performing very well. Tirfed old stuff. Calm down is my sugestion. +1 Maybe if we're still sucking it up a month down the road we can look into moving a couple of older players, but we're in no rush here to tear the team apart. We're actually in a very good position of having a team that's good enough to compete right now and also compete down the road with the young guys we have coming up.

Although it's early, Buehrle getting the Cy Young

QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 8, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) According to the Cy Predictor: 1 Zack Greinke, KC 68.0 (6-0) 2 Roy Halladay, Tor 50.1 (6-1) 3 Mark Buehrle, CWS 44.5 (5-0) So there's a 162.6% chance that one of those three will win the Cy?? -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 8, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) been asking this for weeks. Probably is the concussion thing. What about the metal necklaces? Is that just the same BS about "magnetic healing"? I can almost guarantee that they wear the mouthpieces to protect from concussions. As far as the necklaces I have no f-ing idea. For some reason baseball players wear necklaces a lot of the time, especially pitchers. Some wear the bling necklaces, some the shell necklaces, and a lot of guys wear team color plastic ones. I'm not sure where the trend came from, I'd be interested to know. Nevermind, here's your answer. They're not plastic, they're rubber coated titanium liquid or some s*** likke that. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_leagu...?urn=mlb,114513

Are we going to get anybody from the Brewers for him or did we just give him up for a favor from Milwakee down the road? You'd think that we could get something for a guy that was a 13th round pick just a year prior. Not like he was/is a bum or something. He's got some legit tools, could possibly turn into a utility guy down the road.
-
Mouthpieces are used as a precautionary tool in most sports. If you take a knock on the head and have one in then your chances of getting a concussion are drastically decreased. I think they should be mandatory in just about any sport. You never know when you're going to have a collision so they probably just wear them the whole game. It's a smart move, lots of basketball players have taken to wearing them now as well.

GM Ken Williams criticizes pitchers for not protecting hitters
bighurt4life replied to Wanne's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You don't have to square up a 90 mph 4 seamer into someone's temple, but a little chin music never hurt anyone. Just as a fair warning, you keep hitting our guys (potentially injuring them) and we'll do something about it. We've got two guys in our pen that can touch triple digits if they want to keep plunking our sluggers. -
Although it's early, Buehrle getting the Cy Young
bighurt4life replied to wilmot825's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think that MB is probably one of the most underrated pitchers in all of baseball. He's been our number one guy for almost an entire decade which is just about unheard of anymore in the majors. He is incredibly consistent and durable pitching over 200 innings every season and generally giving the team a chance to win most every time he takes the mound. He doesn't have great stuff but gets by on guile, command, control and guts. This however doesn't tend to get you a Cy Young because he's never going to get 200k's or have a low 2's era. But i'll take him for what he is and let him continue to quietly be one of the best pitchers in the game. An all-star berth would be nice recognition though, because he is having an awesome season so far. -
i like, he's the kind of player we don't have but need right now. speed kills, real speed though, not JO and his fielding pratice speed

Tyler Kuhn has finally started swinging the bat well again, hitting 371 over the last 10 games. He was one of the real surprise players out of out 08 draft class but got off to a horrible start in Kanny.
-
I read somewhere that he's still in extended ST . Apparently he broke his leg pretty badly last year and is still coming back from said injury. On a side note, with the exception of W-S today was basically organization-wide crap. from the big team all the way down to low-a everyone played like s*** today. maybe they all just needed to get it out of their collective system.

That was a fantastic review of this film's prospects.
