make that 6 doubles for him, 3-3 today
-
Ask and ye shall recieve, Gilmore hit a HR, he's got 4 rbi's on the day. His third of the season.
-
Danks homers opposite field in Birmingham. Who says that his power hasn't ever developed. He's been in a mini-slump, good to see him go yard.
-
David Cook with a Grand Salame. Allen, Viciedo and Gartrell score.
-
Charlotte v. Toledo Beckham is 2 for his first 2 in this game with 3 RBI's. He hit his double of the left-center field wall with two men on base, almost a HR. His first hit came on a bunt after Lillibridge doubled to lead off the game. Whatever "it" is, Gordo has "it". There is seemingly nothing that he can't do on a baseball field. What a gamer. He also has a healthy 1.206 OPS so far in AAA. Birmingham v. Huntsville W-S v. Myrtle Beach Mollenhauer has a triple, he's been raking so far hitting .306, time for a promotion maybe. Kanny v. Delmarva Gilmore doubled in a run, his avg. is at .222, waiting for him to show his power.

Beckham was starting at SS BTW, didn't notice that until now.

Konerko has been a rock in the middle of the lineup all month and all year for that matter, Richard came up with some big time starts for us and kept us rolling when a slip up in any of those starts could really have hurt the momentum that we've been building these past few weeks.

Charlotte plays Toledo at 6:30 Carlos Torres and his 2.12 ERA take on Jeremy Bonderman Birmingham v. Huntsville Flowers hit his 7th bomb of the season. He's also got a ridiculous OBP of .435 W-S v. Kinston Shirek got his 8th win of the season and Marrero hit his 5th HR, Morel back in the lineup but Gerst didn't play again. Not sure why he isn't the every day CF, seems to play every other game or so. Kanny v. Delmarva

Sauer is a boss. 39IP 1BB 46K 3.67 GO/AO Given up 2 ER in 6 games since he was moved into the starting rotation. That is 2 ER in 31IP with 36K and 1BB. I think he's a starter.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) The first time I read Tim Wheeler's scouting profile, I thought he'd be a good pick for the Sox. The recent mock draft has him falling to #32. He has one of the uglier swings I've ever seen, all kinds of extra and unnecessary movement in it. I'd take him in the second round at the earliest.

Started off his pro career pretty badly in Great Falls last year but so far has been having a nice start to the 09 season. He's been in Kannapolis all year and through 21.1 IP he has an ERA of 1.69. He has 6 BB and 7K's on the season with a GO/AO ratio of 3.31 which is good to see as he was drafted because he throws a power sinker as his best pitch. It looks like his success may be coming from a change in his approach. Last year he struck out 40 in just 30IP which shows that he was trying to strike guys out but he had pretty bad ERA in the high 6's. This year he's hardly striking anyone out but his ERA is much much better at a higher level nonetheless. The coaches probably told him to start pitching to contact and let his sinker do all the work breaking bats instead of trying to strike people out. We'll see what the rest of the season brings for him but this is a positive turn of events for someone who looked like a wasted draft pick last year.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) And the winner is...TLAK +1 Unless they keep him at SS but one of the only competent players we have in Charlotte plays SS in Eidier Torres, though I think maybe he's been at 2B since Lillibridge got demoted. Anyways, 3B would be the logical position for him to be playing in Charlotte as Castillo has been a disaster there and it's really the only place he could play on the infield if he gets promoted again.

QUOTE (scenario @ May 26, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) Jordan Danks is sure making this minor league stuff look pretty easy... .322/.409/.529 at Winston-Salem in 118 at-bats .367/.449/.467 at Birmingham so far His BB rate is up and K rate is down in AA too.
-
Beckham officially out of his mini-slump. Nice to see Danks performing well at the higher level. He has increased his walk rate in AA and that's all him too. With Beckham, Flowers and Allen following him in the lineup they can't pitch around him like in A+ so you know he's getting lots of strikes thrown to him but he's just being patient. At W-S he was the only dangerous hitter in the lineup so he was probably pressing trying to hit stuff that was out of the zone. This is just my theory however, pure speculation but makes sense to me.

Jeff Passan doesn't sugar-coat the Peavy trade

QUOTE (WCSox @ May 24, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) Too bad Passan's criticism of the way that Kenny and Ozzie run the Sox is about as mature and professional as his haircut. ha -
Sauer has been pretty much crap prior to moving him into the starting rotation. That's kinda strange, usually it works the other way moving a starter into the pen to get some results out of him but who cares. Nice to see him doing well.

Poreda/White Sox benefit from all of this

I think that one of the prospects they could have had would have been Dan Hudson who I would have been upset to see go, I think hes got some real potential. -
How did that video of you flexing in front of a mirror end up in that gallery??? Seriously though great videos, thanks a million for posting them. That's the first time that i've gotten to see a lot of those players take any swings, so thanks again.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Totally disagree. You have to plan that far out. If some of the younger guys pan out, they will be making some good money. It's not that you don't take long-term picture into consideration but if it's a guy that you want badly you can always make it work. Four years is a long time and a lot of changes/moves can be made in that time frame. The necessary adjustments can be made and be done smartly as you have plenty of time to make them, this opposed to the situation that the Padres are in right now where they are over budget by 5 mil and have to trade their best player for pennies on the dollar to get under budget.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 21, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) I just woke up from a nap to this. Jake Peavy, I hope you have a career-ending injury. There, I said it. Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding............post of the day.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 21, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) Unless the Sox find an extra 22 million they are able to spend in '13, the deal is dead. I'll say it a last time. All the AL-NL, family talk is all garbage. This deal all came down to guaranteed money, and Peavy and his agent didn't get what they wanted. The package the Sox sent over was less than impressive. It was going probably going to be Poreda, Richard, Ely, and Lessman. If I was a Padre fan, that is not an acceptable package for an ace pitcher. However, it clearly is the best the Padres can do. Why? Because no one is beating down the door of Kevin Towers given the fact you have to pay Jake Peavy 22 million dollars four years from now. It's not a smart business decision, and one the Sox aren't going to be a part of. You don't go into a trade situation worrying about making salary room 4 years down the road. If you want the guy you get him and make it work out when you cross that bridge. We can only have 5-6 guys tops that are even signed through 2013 so its really not much of an issue.
-
I had to take a student on a two day intervention out in the woods, I get back into town 20 minutes ago and we might have Jake Peavy????!!!?!?!?! I guess I should get out of town more often.

Nother great way to track alumni from a school is on Scout.com. I use if for football/basketball but they have a page for every college team out there and usually some sort of alumni tracker buried in the page.
