Gavin Floyd for Brian Roberts discussed
bighurt4life replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When i read this i threw up a little bit in my mouth. No way would I do that deal, even straight up let alone include more pieces as the article says. Another 3-4 years of Gavin for one of a 30 year old roberts who is about to get really expensive and could start losing his speed at any point now. NO f***ING WAY!!! -
I'm not interested in Gooch unless he wants to sign a minor league deal and be our plan D if Getz, Nix, and Lillebridge don't work out. I don't see any way that'll happen though, one of those three will be able to give us better production than Goochi can at this point in his career.

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) Yeah, but we did give up a legit OF prospect to get him in Cunningham. I think we'll regret letting him go. gotta spend money to make money. we didn't have any 2B prospects in the higher levels of the system at that time and an apparent glut of OF prospects with Owens, Sweeny et. al. In the long run we got the short end of the stick but I don't think that Cunningham has really shown anything to indicate that he'll be any more than a replacement level player in the bigs at best.

i want to know why we would put AJ in the 2 hole instead of Getz. AJ is old a and slow, good bat control but slow which is what the team is trying to get away from, I'd be surprised if Getz doesn't get first crack at the 2 spot.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) I actually like Sickels honesty on Viciedo. At least he isn't judging based on one scouting report and acting like his word is gospel. In fact, I'd say I'm much more likely to trust him now because he's honest when he thinks he has a good grasp of a player. Agreed. He's not just blowing smoke about a player that he doesn't know anything about. At least he's willing to admit it.

Obsessed with (the lack of) Sox off-season moves?

Hot stove action is definitely lots of fun to watch and track. Bonus points for anyone who can tell me why it's called "Hot Stove" for baseball offseason. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) I think John Ely is too low. Other than that, I think it's a good list. God damn I'm still bummed about Nevin Griffith. Anybody know the validity of this site? http://www.scoutingbook.com/prospects/51-60 I ask because they've got Brent Lillibridge ranked #52 on their top 300 prospects list. lol. I saw that site a while ago too, didn't strike me as having much validity. It looked like a random fan's site. Probably just somebody who is really into tracking prospects. Also, nice to see the sox have some high ranking prospects again, some people with star potential.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 20, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) Going on 9 years in the minors and finally showed some success? Not knowing his past history I would guess it's about time he showed something, but it's at the AA level and I wouls also guess there just wasn't any future with the Sox. He had TJ surgery I think in 05 and it took a while for him to recover, plus I think he lost some zip on his pitches

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 09:14 AM) $160-170 million? Ugh. I think Teixeiria is one of the most overrated baseball players in the Majors, probably THE most overrated. I just don't think he's worth that much money and he never impressed me. Typical of scrubby players getting fat paychecks just because their agent's name is Boras. I wouldn't exactly go so far as to say that he's a scrub. He plays gold glove first base and is a great hitter, BUT, he isn't the type of player who will carry a team for weeks on end and doesn't deserve 22 mil a year. I'd say he deserves a more Konerko-esque deal. 6-7 years tops for about 12-15 million seems fair for him.

Quote of Month: "Thank goodness for Kenny Williams"
bighurt4life replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) I don't think he is particularly speaking to the value of Javy Vazquez as much as he is the straight-forwardness and no-nonsense of Kenny in making deals. It was clearly a barb meant for Furcal's agents, not so much a sigh of relief that Javy is some kind of savioir... agreed. it's also a shot at Kevin Towers who couldn't seem to make up his mind about what they wanted for Peavy. Atlanta's front office is highly respected as far as being good at what they do and being straightforward and honest in their dealings. To hear them appreciate KW is a great compliment. -
Cabrera probably WON'T go to the Dodgers
bighurt4life replied to bighurt4life's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) Sounds like Furcal to the Dodgers for 3yrs 30M. That's what I was just reading, though the only thing that happened was the Dodgers upped their offer to match the Braves offer. Also, Furcal didn't want to play 2B which he might have to do to play for the Braves. It's anyone's guess now where he'll end up. -
This would be a best case scenario for us, I think that they have the 17th pick in the 1st round this year which is about as good as we could hope for in return for OCab. I am really hoping that we don't end up with just a second rounder for him.

My eyes told me that he was vastly overrated as a SS. Not to say that he wasn't good, but he certainly wasn't gold glove material, he also had a noodle arm

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) I'd put my money on Armstrong, for now. They'll overlook the Righty/Lefty thing if he swings the bat during spring training. People always assume that we need a righty to give AJ days off but his splits vs. righty/lefty are pretty much the same. We don't really need someone to face tough lefty's when AJ sits.

Hanging with Mr. Cooper... Daniel Cabrera non-tendered
bighurt4life replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wiggy will probably be making 5 mil + per season, little bit out of our price range I think, plus KW seems to want to see what the youngsters can do at 2nd and 3rd. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) You'd take an all-speed, oft-injured, no power OF in a homerun hitters park in the American League? As a 4th OF just in case Jerry Owens doesn't come through? You are talking about Jerry Owens right? All speed, no power, no obp, injured. Big difference here is that Taveras by all accounts plays above average defense in CF and has a plus arm, he's also had success at the major league level. Owens on the other hand is a pretty bad CF with a noodle arm and no history of success

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
bighurt4life replied to Dick Allen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) His fastball has no movement on it. That's why they would give up on him. Plus as was just shown, they don't really need him. A straight fastball can be very effective when used in conjunction with some nasty offspeed stuff a la Francisco Rodriuez. And by all reports Bailey has a knee buckling curve and one of the best sliders around. -
Baseball America White Sox Top 10 Prospects

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 01:03 AM) Talk about upgrading... 2008: 1. Aaron Poreda, lhp 2. Lance Broadway, rhp 3. Jack Egbert, rhp 4. Jose Martinez, of 5. Chris Getz, 2b 6. John Ely, rhp 7. Juan Silverio, ss 8. John Shelby Jr., of 9. Adam Russell, rhp 10. Kyle McCulloch, rhp 2009: 1. Gordon Beckham, ss 2. Dayan Viciedo, 3b 3. Aaron Poreda, lhp 4. Tyler Flowers, c 5. Clayton Richard, lhp 6. Brandon Allen, 1b 7. Jordan Danks, of 8. Brent Lillibridge, ss 9. Chris Getz, 2b/ss/of 10. John Shelby, of No kidding. Our farm system has to be top 15-20 if not higher at this point. That's a hell of a haul for one draft and two middling major leaguers (Swish and Vaz) -
QUOTE (tommy @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) and some more from Cowley: Josh Fields has requested to work out with Ozzie and Joey Cora starting in Jan. down in Miami. The goal is to improve his defense. You put Beckham at 3B and you lose out on his offensive production. He's supposed to hit 15-25 hr a year at 2B which is above average for that position, at third that is average to below average so you end up losing offense.

What do you believe is your best baseball skill? In what area do you feel you need the most work? -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) I wonder if we'll see Flowers as a DH in Chicago in 2010, before we see him as a catcher replacing AJ? Obviously, he has 5X more value if he can catch at least "adequately," so you'd hope they wouldn't rush him, but Viciedo, Flowers and possibly Fields would be the best internal candidates to replace Thome in 2010. I think that the smart move would be to keep him in the minors to let him continue to work on his D and game calling. If he DH's for a season that's a lot of playing time at catcher that he would be missing.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) He's not a member of the Dash! He's a White Sock.! Even better one, Brent "Bag of Dick" Lillebridge. The B first name with the B in the nickname, it's called alliteration, makes for a good nickname if you can't come up with one that rhymes.

How about a nickname that makes no sense at all and is entirely inappropriate just to confuse people. My vote goes to dickbag.
