  1. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:24 PM) Whoa.. mlb network has been talking about the white sox for over 3 minutes now. Heh, well it's a replay from their 10 pm show. They are done for the night, so you won't get any new news from them tonight. I think they resume again at like 9 am tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:17 PM) I hope Johnson is that good. Sanchez as an everyday player would kill our offense. I have never believed Sanchez. If Semien goes, I'd like to see Micah as our opening day 2B, assuming we don't acquire/sign one.
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:14 PM) I rewinded and quoted them. Then we were watching different broadcasts of clones of those guys.
  4. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:09 PM) You all know I love Semien, so I'm frustrated. Shark is a fine pitcher, but I'm frustrated that we gave up the one guy in our system with superlative pitch recognition skills. I understand why we did it, but consider this: We now have holes at: -2B (I don't believe in Sanchez...sorry) -3B -LF -Bullpen That's a lot of holes to fill for a team that is going all in. It doesn't seem like we're good enough to be trading a potentially good starting 2B for a one year rental. At least I'll get to see Beane use Semien at SS everyday like I was advocating we do... When I saw you posted, I expected your comment to say "Shark is a f***tard, s***bag bum." Actual analysis was a nice surprise.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:06 PM) Dempster was talking about how the Sox could be a Robertson type signing away from competing and the host basically said, "If that happened, what about the Yankees?" I was watching too, but although he did shift gears from the Sox to the Yankees abruptly, he was said pretty close to what I described in my post, because I was about to post the same thing.
  6. Watched Homeland tonight. Man, another great episode.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 11:00 PM) "Maybe the White Sox could get David Robertson too..?" "Well if the White Sox did get Robertson, could the Yankees compete in the AL East?" No, no, no, he said "If the they get Headley, and they get Robertson, and use A-Rod as some sort of floating DH, could the Yankees compete in the AL East?"
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:42 PM) http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/payroll/ You realize that table is missing like 15 players, right?
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:35 PM) I believe we are at 72 million. Could be wrong though We were at like $63M before Duke ($5M), and LaRoche ($12M), which puts us at about $80M I believe.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:28 PM) And 0 WAR would be what? 5 wins 7 wins? 5-7 pitching wins? I have no idea, because pitching wins are largely random. Quintana had a 5.3 WAR last season and had 9 pitching wins. Eric Stultz had a -0.6 WAR last season and had 8 pitching wins. They don't have any impact or correlation to WAR.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:23 PM) This is where WAR loses its value. Does it say that kershaw would only contribute 7 more wins than the #5 starter from the white sox? So when your average 5 starter only goes 5 7nnings and kershaw averages 7, he doesn't save the pen and more wins because better pitchers pitch more often. If that #5 pitcher has a 0 WAR all season and is considered replacement value.
  12. Semien, Danish, Trey would be okay with me if we can get an extension. If we don't, I'll be pretty upset.
  13. I must say, Danish tweeting makes me think he IS in the trade.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) What do we think Billy is having for dinner? Sharkfin soup? That's all I got. Hopefully not a Danish.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:11 PM) Lester was great last year, but since when is he this incredible pitcher that everything thinks is an ace? What Dempster just described is not an ace, it's whatever superlative is used to a player who has a season 2-3x that of what Clayton Kershaw and his measly 7 WAR produced last season. I realize he doesn't know he just suggested that, but saying a single player will add "xxx" amount of wins to your team is just asking for WAR to be used to evaluate your assertion.
  16. Ryan Dempster - "If the Cubs add Jon Lester, they immediately become 15-20 wins better" *In related news, Dempster projects Lester to pitch 500 innings next season, strike out 600 batters and only walk 30, while keeping his ERA until 1.00* What an idiot.
  17. MLB Network: "White Sox may be about to add Samardzija, but what about the Yankees? Let's talk to Jon Heyman about the Yankees and their bullpen." *Shoots self in face*
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 09:55 PM) Agreed. Potential switch hitting 3B. That's Michalczewski (sp?), not Micah.
  19. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) I thought I had Jeter rammed up my ass enough this past year. You and about 1000 New York women.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) I agree with something like that. Maybe 2 weeks is a little long, but spoilers for the first week since airing, at least. I am always as vague as I can be with talking about an episode until the next episode airs.
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 01:35 AM) The Orioles just traded Eduardo Rodriguez for 20 innings of Andrew Miller. And the Athletics traded Yoenis Cespedes for 76 innings of Jon Lester.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 01:31 AM) That's not what I said, I just don't think he shouldn't be compared to players of different leagues in different countries based on a geographical convenience. As far as what I think of Kang, I'm not sure because I haven't watch more than a few clips and I am not familiar with the KBO. I do think he profiles very similarly to Semien as he's most likely not good enough defensively at SS, is more suited for 2B/3B and has considerable offensive upside. Given his potential, I don't know how much of a fit he would be unless Semien gets moved. From the little I did see the guy really doesn't have any holes in his swing and contrary to what you may have assumed, he isn't your typical Asian build so I'll bite on the power potential. He does have a dramatic load which probably isn't going to excite anyone for the obvious reasons. I would have hoped the Sox had guys checking him out as the KBO is an undeveloped market and the potential for surplus value is significant. I don't see any similarities to Semien, other than fringy SS defense, and being right-handed.
  23. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 01:20 AM) Bullpen is such an important part in today's game. But you can also find diamond in the roughs without spending so much money but we sucked at that last year. We found a couple with Putnam and Petricka But a good bullpen on a bad team is useless. A good offense on a bad team at the very least helps attendance and exposure and fan interest. A good rotation on a bad team offers very valuable trading chips to rebuild. A good bullpen on a bad team does neither.
  24. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 01:10 AM) But again if you want to compete and had as bad of a bullpen as the sox do then you have to spend either money or trades to fix it. But this is telling if they are serious in Robertson then they might have more money to play with then thought of and really should make for a exciting winter meetings and rest of off season. I guess we can just agree to disagree, but I'd rather we build the the car before we start buying spoilers and rims.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:24 AM) I thought The Newsroom was great last night, but Homeland was disappointing after an amazing episode two weeks ago. I can't believe I didn't see that final scene coming. They've joked about it happening pretty much every other episode for 3 seasons, and it wasn't until he paused there that it finally clicked in my head. Also, the thing with Will and the other inmate was a good touch too. Didn't see that coming. Hate the Jim/Maggie stuff. Too damn predictable and boring. And the rape stuff was pretty intense. Without getting in to a political conversation here, I think there were some very valid points made from both sides. I know someone who was falsely accused of rape and it was horrifying for him. He's lucky he is about 6'9", 320 pounds because the whole school hated him and he was getting threats from so many guys who were trying to stick up for the girl.
