White Sox draft day one thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
Well, heres to hoping Danish can stay healthy long enough to become a RP for the Sox in 3-4 years. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 01:01 AM) I think Carlos Sanchez has a 60 game hitting streak of just 1 hit, never 2 or 3 or 4 or 0, but always just 1 single. I know you are just kidding, but in his last 10 games, he has only come away with 1 hit 4 out of 10 times. 0 hits - 2 times 1 hit - 4 times 2 hits - 3 times And then one of the games he had no ABs. Must have pinch-ran or something.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 12:34 AM) Opposite field grand slam for Puig. Also, another horrible umpire call, this time in Colorado. 2 different umps blew 2 different EASY calls on the same play. Wow. In real time they were easily called wrong. How awful.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 12:18 AM) This is one of the better threads in a while on PHT. I was totally ignorant to this class before today. Lots of good info and analysis up and down this thread. It's my favorite thread every year. I love seeing people comment on players before we draft them. Gives a much truer idea of what they REALLY think before we draft a RP with our 2nd pick, and everyone loves him. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 12:12 AM) Yea. The organization is one that seems to have a pretty good handle on developing pitchers and not having arms explode. They wouldn't have picked Danish this early if they had significant concerns over his mechanics. Either that or they think they can fix any issues that have them worried. I guarantee there is going to be a wide range of opinions on him. I know Law hates the arm action, but he also disliked Sale for similar reasons. Sale and Danish's mechanics aren't even close to similar. Really, no one has mechanics like Danish. -
Not a great start for Erik Johnson. Keenyn Walker drew 2 BB, stole his 21st. Walker went 2/3 in the second game, Daniel Webb having a nice year out of the pen. Got an ERA under 0.90 on the year, K/9 above 9.00, and a WHIP under 1.00.

Just glancing through Danish's twitter, he seemed pretty pumped about the draft, but he also has a TON of Florida Gators stuff there too, including his bio saying he plays baseball at Florida. Wonder if Hahn is going to overslot this one. -

Oh my god, he delivers the ball in 0.22 seconds, 4 or 5 times faster than most pitchers. That's actually really f***ing cool. I can't believe he can throw 95 when he has almost no drive off his legs. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 11:26 PM) Peavy is very similar in his delivery. Many have also condemned Sale for his mechanics. It's certainly no exact science. The Sox obviously see something here. They aren't picking a projectable high school kid who has a Florida commit in order to banish him to the bullpen or anything. I think Peavy and Danish have similar recoils, and arm slots, but Peavy winds up a lot more in his delivery. Danish has a snapping forward motion. I suppose it would be super hard to steal off him though, he has almost no stride. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 11:24 PM) If you don't sign the player, you lose the money. I thought you had a certain pool of say $5M to sign your first 10 picks or something. I thought I recalled some teams drafted guys w/ hard college committments so they could spend the money on tougher picks. Has that changed? -

OMG what horrible mechanics by the guy the Sox just drafted. I kind of hope he fulfills his college commitment and gives the Sox overslot $$ -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) The topic of Jeter's defense really does bring out the hyperbole. He wasn't a terrible defensive SS his whole career. He was a decent defensive SS for a lot of years, but has slowly descended into sub-par later in his career. He was no gold glover, ever, but he wasn't bad until very recently. From 2000 to 2009, Jack Wilson led all SS with 100 DRS (Defensive Runs Saved). Jeter is dead last on that list with -100 DRS. NEGATIVE ONE HUNDRED RUNS!! And of course, this famous Bill James' piece saying he could be the worst defensive SS of all-time.... http://www.fieldingbible.com/jeter.asp

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) Well, I am just an old man compared to most on this board, I assume. I am probably an old school type of guy and not so worried about things like is he a great defensive SS. I will take 20 years of Derek Jeter as my SS cause all his other attributes more than made him a HOF SS in my opinion. To have a guy with that bat in the lineup as your SS every day, what an advantage. Ok, but the REST of his game wasn't the point. The conversation was about Micah's apparently bad defense in the IF. You told the story of Derek Jeter being a terrible defender in the minors, and in your opinion, he turned his defense around to be one of the best defensive SS ever (according to the media/uninformed). My point was that using Jeter as an example of a best-case-scenario for Micah isn't a comforting one, because in reality Jeter was a s***-defensive SS his whole career. Yes, yes, one of the best OFFENSIVE SS to ever play, I'll agree w/ that, but the defense was the topic of discussion here.

Adam Dunn had 3 IBB with the Sox after 2 1/2 seasons. He now has 3 IBB TODAY. lol. -
Hawkins 0/3, 3 K now.

Hawkins 0/2, with 2 K.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) I think you have to give those starts to Santiago. I never assume Santiago will ever get the chance to start. Clearly Ventura has some issue w/ Santiago in the rotation, considering how hard he tries to waste him in the pen.
-
QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) This is what they need to do, and do it soon, so he knows how to play OF by time we need him, if his success continues. 18 errors already, well over 50 in a year. I know Derek Jeter made over 50 errors in his first or 2nd full minor league season, but my god, that was as a SS and not a 2Bman. And Derek Jeter was a well-below average, sometime terrible defensive player his entire major league career. I'm not sure why his past could be encouraging for Micah. lol.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 01:30 AM) And about 300 strikeouts. Na-uh! Only 255 K's!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 11:39 PM) Why wasn't that icing just before the empty netter? Huge save by Quick on Bickell earlier. It looked to me as if Kruger or whoever the Hawk was near center ice may have tipped it, or at least that's what the ref probably saw. When it happened, I didn't think it was icing either. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 08:10 PM) Talk about a crooked number. Eight runs for the Dash in one inning. Hawkins seems to be a LOT more focused this time around. Up to a .196 batting average and hitting much better, fewer K's (well, that was almost impossible not to see cut down). Ok, wait a second, let's pump the brakes, it hasn't even been a 3-game series yet.
