  1. A lot of names mentioned not on the 40-man. I think the Sox are at 37, but could 60-day Nate Jones.
  2. It doesn't suck the Sox hold the tiebreaker with the Giants. Simply put, if the Sox go 4-6 three times in a row, they'll have a really high pick next June.
  3. Thursday: Phillies won, Giants lost, Sox lost, Reds won 31 days left Team (Games left) - Sox Magic Number to have higher pick: 1. Phillies(29) - 33 2. Giants(26) - 29 3. White Sox(30) 4. Reds(28) - 26 5. A's(29) - 25 If the Sox somehow go 14-16, the Reds would have to go 9-19 to have a better pick. The Sox are getting the 2nd or 3rd pick. Big series next weekend.
  4. Giants down 2-1 after 5. Bumgarner was scratched with the flu. A SF win would cap a nice day.
  5. Nice to wake up to this. Back to sleep...
  6. 18 pitchers on the 40-man. Except Jones, they'll probably all be in Chicago by next Tuesday. Not a fan of roster expansion. At the very least, there should be a daily limit on the active roster.
  7. Reds win, Sox lose Sox move up to 2 with a Giants win
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) Agreed. Is the deadline this afternoon or later? 11pm central
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) Sox need that roster expansion today Should I lose my mind on September roster expansion now or just wait until tomorrow? September baseball is a joke.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) I know I've said this before and people can fire away again. If they have an awful season next year with that plan, the rebuild has failed and they will need to start again. If the rotation is Rodon, Lopez, Giolito and Kopech, all players they are counting on for the rebuild, they better not lose 90 games. They will struggle but they can't ALL struggle that badly. You're right, I do disagree. The Sox won't be a .500 team in 2018, but it will be a step forward. 76-86 would be a great season for a young team and mostly young rotation. If they happen to lose 90, it's not that much different. Kinda just depends on health and bullpen variance...and Renteria bunting.
  11. I know there will be a fair share of paranoia about guys getting rushed, but next spring training and the season have the potential to be a lot of fun from beginning to end even if they're a 90 loss team again.
  12. https://mobile.twitter.com/whitesox/status/...270243107295232 Abreu's last swing looked painful last night.
  13. Wednesday: Phillies lost twice, Giants lost, Sox lost, Reds lost, A's lost 32 days left Team (Games left) - Sox Magic Number to have higher pick: 1. Phillies(30) - 35 2. Giants(27) - 30 3. White Sox(31) 4. Reds(29) - 28 5. A's(29) - 26
  14. If you were concerned about the Sox falling out of the top 4 at some point, today was your day.
  15. Sox have plenty of non-tender candidates if they want.
  16. After this loss, the Sox are going to be 11-17 in August with one more game tomorrow afternoon. Even with a good stretch, it's still a bad monthly record, which is fine by me.
  17. Mets-Astros are postponed Friday, and they'll play a doubleheader in Houston on Saturday. That's some good news.
  18. QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) Then there's Alec Hansen pitch face If he's just sitting on the bench, is that resting pitch face?
  19. Just for perspective, if the Sox go 15-17, for teams to have a higher pick they would have to go: Giants 13-15 Reds 11-19 Tigers and Mets 9-22 Padres and A's 9-21 Braves 10-23 Maybe the Sox fall to 4, but I'm not worried about them going 18-14 and really dropping.
  20. Seeing all of the Magic Numbers from 4 to 9, the Sox better not blow a top 3 pick...and they won't.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) Phucking Fillies. Yeah, it's going to be 2 or 3 probably. If the Sox go 15-17 or worse, they'll have a nice pick next year.
  22. Braves trouncing Phillies early in game 1 of a doubleheader.
  23. QUOTE (Yoda @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 06:14 AM) Sale became the fastest pitcher in MLB history to reach 1500 strikeouts, doing so in 1,290 total innings. Amazing considering how he came up out of the bullpen first and has pitched in just the AL. But it's fastest to 1500 K based on innings, so pitching out of the pen was to his advantage in this accomplishment.
