7/16/16 Sox @ Angels Shields vs Shoemaker
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) As long as Kenny Williams is in the mix nothing will EVER change. Agreed. As long as Reinsdorf and Kenny are where they are, the Sox aren't making the playoffs unless they get one of those lucky 85 win years where every other team in a weak division gets hurt.

Sanchez to Charlotte. Something will have to be done with the 40 man to make room for Turner.

72 left. 43-29 to win 88 and that might not be enough.

Nice game for Shields. Hope he has another inning tonight.

7/16/16 Sox @ Angels Shields vs Shoemaker
In 1968, they got shutout 3 games in a row. One of them was 13 innings. One was 10 innings. In total, they went 39 innings in row without a run.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:31 PM) I can't even get annoyed when Trout makes a great play. Dude's the next Mantle. He is Mantle. It's too bad the unbalanced schedule exists. There is so much talent out west that doesn't get appreciated or talked about enough.

Sox are going to win this game. Few runs are coming.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:03 PM) I have followed Sox baseball for 57 years. I understand cyber frustration of not having a winning team but you are not out of the race until mathematically eliminated and we aren't There's still room to be hopeful, but if they go 2-4 on the road trip, it's absolutely time to hope for losses and real moves that will positively impact the future. Because the present isn't good enough. That's how baseball works in 2016.

What's with all of the pockets sticking out the last couple years?

7/16/16 Sox @ Angels Shields vs Shoemaker
Blue Jays and Astros lost. Tigers are losing. Need to win this one to have some hope. Dropping back down to .500 with Turner starting tomorrow would not be good.

With Morneau now, I wonder if they'll push Anderson down to 9, and go Melky at 2? Eaton, Cabrera, Abreu, Morneau, Frazier, Lawrie, Garcia/Shuck, Catcher, Anderson

The Second Wildcard
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 10:19 AM) If they win 79 games it's time to blow it up, including the front office. 3 win improvements won't cut it. I don't know if there is an actual win total that matters whether they should blow things up. Out of the playoffs is out of the playoffs. To me, 76-86 or 86-76 is the same thing if you're going home. That said, I think the Sox will be 77-78 or 78-77 with a week left, and they'll play the Rays and Twins 7 games at home that won't mean anything to anyone. They'll probably be shutting Sale down after 32 starts.

The Second Wildcard
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) This team is fools gold and finished. They won't win the wild card. They'll win about 82 games max. Yep. 79 wins, plus or minus 2, based on the last week of meaningless games vs Rays and Twins.

7/16/16 Sox @ Angels Shields vs Shoemaker
Avi has two homers off Shoemaker. Lawrie is 6-15 against him. 7-3 Angels.
-
The Second Wildcard
Orioles, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Rangers, Astros, Indians 6 teams for 5 spots. 3 or 4 teams can pretend they're still in it, but they aren't. This will wash out over the next 10 days.

Chris Sale named to All-Star game
Happy for Sale. Glad he is opening up about chewing tobacco. I hope MLB bans it because it's time.

2016 MLB catch all thread
QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 11, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) Just too many good teams in the AL, so the bad ones don't have any soft spots on the schedule. The AL teams who aren't in that overall bottom 6 are .500 or better. After the rocky start, the AL has taken a big advantage (97 to 83) in interleague head-to-head, as usual. A weird year in interleague. The NL is actually up 46-44 when using a DH. The AL is doing damage in NL parks (53-37), and more specifically when playing a 2 home/2 away 4-game series against their local or regional counterpart, Monday-Thursday. The AL is 31-13 in these series (18-4 in NL parks), with the Sox/Cubs, Orioles/Nationals, Yankees/Mets, Rangers/Rockies remaining after the break. It will probably end up AL 162-138, give or take a few. Good AL teams have to go 11-9 at minimum.

Futures game
I'd be surprised if he doesn't start next Sunday in Anaheim. He looked very good and the other options aren't that good.
