Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 07:50 PM) Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 9m Direct. of am. scouting Doug Laumann said it's unfair to put Rodon on a Chris Sale fast track. Sale arrived 2 mos. after he was drafted. Maybe that's a negotiating thing. I'm not reading into that one way or the other. He'll get signed. He'll pitch. He'll be up when he's ready.

It really was the best case scenario for the Sox, with Aiken and Kolek off the board. There really is no regret factor possible. They took the best guy available and now it's up to the gods.

Still would like to know what would have happened if Aiken-Rodon went 1-2.

Just coming on here now--avoided the spoilers. When the Marlins took Kolek, yeah, I yelled a little. /meatball Happy with Rodon. Hope he's the second lefty in the pen by August.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 04:59 PM) Two hours away if you are interested in actual picks being made. I don't think I'll put myself through the torture of watching the pre-draft show. The Astros probably pick in about 70-75 minutes. They don't mess around once they start in an hour.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 04:57 PM) Damn it! Sox probably pick around 6:30. They'll probably give a little extra time to the first few picks.

It would be so baseball if Tyler Beede still had the best career of all of them, and nobody is talking about him in the top 3 today.

There needs to be a name for Buehrle-type pitchers
Dan Bernstein was talking about Buehrle yesterday, saying that he's having a typical Buehrle season so far. He's just getting run support so the Wins are coming. Forget about wins, he has 10 quality starts in which he's averaged 7 innings and a 1.53 ERA, That's not typical. Now he could have a Verlander type month where he can't get anyone out, but for now, anyone who doesn't think Buehrle is a top-2 or 3 Cy this season, is an idiot. And don't get me started on Pitching WAR. Complete nonsense.

Over/Under on how many times Bud Selig says 2000 instead of 2014? 3.5? Last year for Los Angelees as well.

2014 AL Central catch-all thread
Verlander has been bad for five starts now. Torii Hunter made an error that he didn't pitch over, and now Brett Lawrie took him deep. 6-3 Jays, top 6 Big series next week. Huge.

Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) I don't really mind who they select of the top handful of guys, unless they pass on Rodon to take Nola. That would tick me off. I'll be honest, if the Astros take Aiken, I'll be rooting for the Marlins to take Rodon. I can't explain it, but I just don't want him on the Sox. (maybe something to look back on and laugh)

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) Why does no one consider it going the other way, that in 2 years the White Sox have a successful contributor in the middle/upper half of their order and the high schooler drafted by the Cubs/Twins is having TJS? No one? Of course that could happen. As long as it isn't Hawk talking Jerry out of allowing the rest of the front office from taking the guy they really want (maybe Kolek), then there really isn't a "wrong" pick. Crap Shoot.

2014 Draft class
If Nola has a 3-4 floor and 2 upside, plus Coop and the staff like his mechanics, I couldn't fault the Sox for taking him. The Sox need another guy that will give 32 starts and 200 innings. They don't grow on trees.

May Schedule
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 05:07 PM) 33-28 on draft day. 2 more wins and the Sox would have a .5 game lead for the first wildcard. The next two series are huge. Can't give away games.

2014 Draft class
I don't know what the hell to think about this anymore. Nola would be fine, and possibly a guy they could use before the season ends. We'll know in 11 hours.
