Sox/Padres June 1 Game Thread
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) Come on boys get this one. Sale pitches a no no today. It could happen. Two wins for the Padres already. Day game facing Sale. A shutout is definitely in play today. The big question...who doesn't get on the plane to LA tonight? For some reason, I think Semien is going to stay on the roster.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) Getting excited for the draft for the first time in my lifetime, (26) due to the high pick. I'm good with any of the big 3. I'm excited about the upside of the pick, but when it comes to young pitchers, I'm not penciling anyone's name into a future rotation until he's made 10 healthy/good starts at Birmingham. Teams always need pitching, and it's the right move in this draft, but it sucks there isn't a Longoria or Bryant this time around--at least not considered that good right now.

Season Preview: DSL White Sox
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) Zapata not on the DSL team. Possibly in Great Falls? His name is Micker Adolfo. Micker is pronounced Mike-er. He'll probably be playing for the new short season Arizona team. They begin play June 20.

No Sale vs Kershaw
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ May 30, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) Does this put Sale in line to start against SF on June 18th? Yes Sale's schedule before the Break: 6-1 vs Padres 6-7 at Angels 6-12 vs Tigers 6-18 vs Giants 6-23 at Orioles 6-28 at Blue Jays 7-4 vs Mariners 7-9 at Red Sox 7-15 All Star Game

No Sale vs Kershaw
Another factor--Sale wasn't going to be in the 4-gamer against the Tigers. Now he'll have the last game.

No Sale vs Kershaw
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 30, 2014 -> 12:39 PM) Who's getting skipped? Just flipping Sale and Q.

No Sale vs Kershaw
A little surprised, but it probably will sell a few tickets at home and Sale doesn't have to pick up a bat it LA. A sweep this weekend would really take the pressure off having to win a bunch of games in LA and Anaheim next week. Big month with a couple tough road trips coming up.

Should the Sox market Quintana for a trade?
Why should they? They're in it right now, and Quintana is locked up. I really don't understand all of the trade talk/who can we trade while the team is still in it. Yeah, I get they aren't going to make moves to jeopardize the future, but the Beckham/Alexei/Quintana speculation stuff seems out of place while the team is in-season and not buried.

OFF DAY TALK: 1/3 of the season mark grades
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 29, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) We are 28-27 I know. 54 games is 1/3 of the season. So 27-27 down, plus 1-0. Happy?

OFF DAY TALK: 1/3 of the season mark grades
Overall, I'm happy with 27-27 after 54. Sale missing 6 starts 9 different starting pitchers Jones out early in the season Avi out for the year Eaton, Gillaspie, Beckham, and Abreu all on the DL at some point All of this should add up to 23-31. That's where Abreu and Alexei playing like All-Stars, and bullpen arms like Putnam and Petricka got this team to .500--and now over. If this current starting rotation can stay intact the rest of the way, and no more injuries (wishful thinking), I give the Sox a decent shot at 87-75, which could get the 2nd wildcard. 27-27 down. Let's see if they have a couple 30-24's in them.

OFF DAY TALK: 1/3 of the season mark grades
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 29, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) Not sure how you can give Danks a B, but Quintana a B- with a straight face. Eh, you're right. Both B's

OFF DAY TALK: 1/3 of the season mark grades
QUOTE (Dunt @ May 29, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) That should have said, "He's awesome". Sale has 36 innings. Aces should have 72 after 11 starts. Danks and Quintana get almost just as much credit for being there and making all of their starts. And that's not a rip on Sale, but aces (the guys you rely on to carry the load) make all of their starts.

OFF DAY TALK: 1/3 of the season mark grades
Opening Day Lineup Eaton B- (injury prone, but fun to watch) Semien B- (big moments, not bad for a rookie) Gillaspie B+ (hitting like Gwynn, decent defense, injured) Abreu A (MVP numbers, butcher at 1B at times, but can live with that) Dunn B (good solid season for Donkey-no complaints) Garcia INC De Aza D- (started ok, then has been terrible) Ramirez A (All Star season) Flowers B (Better than we could have hoped for with the bat. Glove needs to improve) Viciedo B+ (probably outperforming what Avi would have done. Very solid.) L Garcia C (he's not expected to do much with the bat. He serves his purpose) Nieto B (Big surprise. Doing ok with Danks starts) Konerko D (A couple big hits, but...) Beckham B+ (where you been the last four years?) Sierra C (we'll see) Sale B+ (He awesome, but I can't give an 'ace' an A if he misses half of his starts) Paulino F Quintana B- (need more innings per start, but very solid) Johnson F Danks B (see Quintana, but great last start) Carroll C (he's another Axelrod, but provided a great game this season) Noesi C+ (he's climbing. Games 55-108, I hope he's an A or B) Rienzo B+ (big surprise. Hope he keeps it up) Webb B- (good arm, needs to throw more strikes) Petricka A (bullpen saver, on pace for 90+ innings) Putnam A (really helped get the pen settled after the terrible start) Lindstrom B+ (did ok. Hope he's back in August) Belisario C+ (was terrible, got better)

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 28, 2014 -> 10:56 PM) Who is Seth Lasko? Up until a couple days ago, I read his name like that too. It's actually Lakso. Well, we'll know the number 3 pick in about....mmmm....178 hours.

No runs in the first inning. That's not much to ask for.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 28, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) I like the lineup. It's a lot better when Beckham is hitting like a big leaguer, and De Aza isn't in it.

2014 MLB catch-all thread
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 28, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) I always find it funny when a grown ass man has no idea how to throw a baseball. Same here. It's sad, in a way.

And that's a White Sox Winner!!!
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 28, 2014 -> 08:09 AM) If he can prove to be even respectable out of the pen, he should stay. The team really doesn't have a long man and with Rienzo, Danks and Noesi making up 3/5ths of our rotation we really need a guy that can take it on the chin and eat some innings when those three inevitably lay an egg. Yes, they need Carroll in the pen. 180 innings from the bullpen-- averaging 3 1/3 per game. That should improve with Sale back, but this current rotation may have to play out the season. They're going to need a guy like Carroll to take one for the team occasionally.
