OFF DAY TALK: 1/3 of the season mark grades
flavum replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Overall, I'm happy with 27-27 after 54. Sale missing 6 starts 9 different starting pitchers Jones out early in the season Avi out for the year Eaton, Gillaspie, Beckham, and Abreu all on the DL at some point All of this should add up to 23-31. That's where Abreu and Alexei playing like All-Stars, and bullpen arms like Putnam and Petricka got this team to .500--and now over. If this current starting rotation can stay intact the rest of the way, and no more injuries (wishful thinking), I give the Sox a decent shot at 87-75, which could get the 2nd wildcard. 27-27 down. Let's see if they have a couple 30-24's in them. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 29, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) Not sure how you can give Danks a B, but Quintana a B- with a straight face. Eh, you're right. Both B's -

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 29, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) That should have said, "He's awesome". Sale has 36 innings. Aces should have 72 after 11 starts. Danks and Quintana get almost just as much credit for being there and making all of their starts. And that's not a rip on Sale, but aces (the guys you rely on to carry the load) make all of their starts. -

Opening Day Lineup Eaton B- (injury prone, but fun to watch) Semien B- (big moments, not bad for a rookie) Gillaspie B+ (hitting like Gwynn, decent defense, injured) Abreu A (MVP numbers, butcher at 1B at times, but can live with that) Dunn B (good solid season for Donkey-no complaints) Garcia INC De Aza D- (started ok, then has been terrible) Ramirez A (All Star season) Flowers B (Better than we could have hoped for with the bat. Glove needs to improve) Viciedo B+ (probably outperforming what Avi would have done. Very solid.) L Garcia C (he's not expected to do much with the bat. He serves his purpose) Nieto B (Big surprise. Doing ok with Danks starts) Konerko D (A couple big hits, but...) Beckham B+ (where you been the last four years?) Sierra C (we'll see) Sale B+ (He awesome, but I can't give an 'ace' an A if he misses half of his starts) Paulino F Quintana B- (need more innings per start, but very solid) Johnson F Danks B (see Quintana, but great last start) Carroll C (he's another Axelrod, but provided a great game this season) Noesi C+ (he's climbing. Games 55-108, I hope he's an A or B) Rienzo B+ (big surprise. Hope he keeps it up) Webb B- (good arm, needs to throw more strikes) Petricka A (bullpen saver, on pace for 90+ innings) Putnam A (really helped get the pen settled after the terrible start) Lindstrom B+ (did ok. Hope he's back in August) Belisario C+ (was terrible, got better) -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 28, 2014 -> 10:56 PM) Who is Seth Lasko? Up until a couple days ago, I read his name like that too. It's actually Lakso. Well, we'll know the number 3 pick in about....mmmm....178 hours.

No runs in the first inning. That's not much to ask for.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 28, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) I like the lineup. It's a lot better when Beckham is hitting like a big leaguer, and De Aza isn't in it.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 28, 2014 -> 12:51 PM) Sanchez with a 3 run bomb. Lol he is on fire. Cool. 10th inning off Nick Hagadone.

I'd bet anything they just keep him on schedule. Monday vs Kershaw.
-
Double for Sanchez (.292) Bases loaded walk for Davidson

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 28, 2014 -> 09:38 AM) I always find it funny when a grown ass man has no idea how to throw a baseball. Same here. It's sad, in a way.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 28, 2014 -> 08:09 AM) If he can prove to be even respectable out of the pen, he should stay. The team really doesn't have a long man and with Rienzo, Danks and Noesi making up 3/5ths of our rotation we really need a guy that can take it on the chin and eat some innings when those three inevitably lay an egg. Yes, they need Carroll in the pen. 180 innings from the bullpen-- averaging 3 1/3 per game. That should improve with Sale back, but this current rotation may have to play out the season. They're going to need a guy like Carroll to take one for the team occasionally.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2014 -> 07:37 AM) Sox now 6-3 vs Cle at the halfway point of the season series, vs 2-16 last year. 2-17 They play 19 vs the 4 division opponents (76 games) 66 vs the 10 AL East/West 20 interleague

Beckham is looking very 2009-like. He doesn't have a goofy stance where he looks like he's trying to cheat. He's squaring pitches up and the ball is flying off his bat. There's been so much badness the last 4 seasons, but he's becoming fun to watch again...at least for now.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 12:14 PM) Some interesting numbers for Sox pitching to this point in the season. Overall ERA 28th- 4.91 Starters ERA 28th- 5.01 Relievers ERA 26th- 4.74 Walks 30th- 125 (next is TOR with 108) K's 28th - 171 Hits allowed 28th - 249 Forced GIDP 2nd - 28 WP 29th - 19 GB outs 4th - 279 HR against 6th- 19 Sox first AL team with 54 games played. Overall ERA 4.54 Starters ERA 4.92 Bullpen ERA 3.90 (Games 28-54: 3.08 over 90.2 innings) Sox are very fortunate to be 27-27 with all of the injuries, especially Sale missing 5 starts. Him missing starts and the rain last night probably put 20 more innings on the bullpen alone. Edit: they changed that play in KC that was obviously an error on Beckham. Saved Carroll an earnie.

Sox tweeted first pitch 7:45. I hope they don't have to apologize if it ends up 8:45.
-
This looks like a long one coming. First for it to start raining, and then an hour or two.
-
Something has to be wrong with Johnson. Hawkins- single and walk.
-
I'm still waiting for Aaron Myette and Corwin Malone to be a part of the Sox rotation.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ May 27, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) .500 tonight fellas!! Hitting the 1/3 mark tonight. 27-27 looks a lot better than 26-28. Sale on the mound with his sweet moves. Get a Win. No early game rain delays, please.
