  1. Just spitballing but couldn't it have Harper ramifications? If the Sox miss out on Machado I would think that could increase their interest in Harper (assuming he is still available).
  2. Obviously, no comparing the starting staffs, with or without Kluber. You can make the case that the Sox currently have zero position players on their opening day lineup that would start for the Indians (Abreu or Yonder would start at DH, Eloy is coming). I think the Sox could add Machado, Joc and another $10mm/1yr SP and they'd still be 4/1 to end up with a better record than Cleveland and probably 6/1 to win the division. That is not quite ready to consider yourself contending IMHO.
  3. The platoon was about to take over baseball, then the shift neutered some of those mashers with the crazy splits. Then the idea of carrying less than 12 pitchers went out the window when Francona started using more than 12 in a single game.
  4. To be honest, Avi was the reason I initially undervalued Pederson yesterday. I kind of lumped the two players together. But that is wrong. Joc has been a 3 win player 3 out of 4 years. Avi did it once. The only thing in common they have is perceived upside and/or flashes of greatness. Pederson is way more valuable than people are giving him credit for here, and I think it would be a horrible mistake for the Sox to give up what it should require for what is essentially a stop-gap player.
  5. That sounds like one team is rebuilding and the other is in win-now mode. Except.....
  6. I mean there are tons of teams that aren't a real threat to the Dodgers. They aren't just going to give him away to be sure he doesn't come back to haunt them. But when I just spitballed that off the cuff 3 teamer, where the Sox would give up Nate Jones, Fulmer and Hansen the general consensus was "hell no". Nate Jones makes 4.5 million this season, making him nowhere near a slam dunk to reach value. And that leaves Fulmer and Hansen to make up what.... $35,000,000 in Joc's value above his contract?
  7. I don't understand how people here can prove Pederson is so valuable (which y'all convinced me of yesterday) but then turn around and say that his cost will only be Fulmer/Bush. I don't think you can have it both ways. If Joc is a slam dunk 3 win player, with evne more upside, then he is worth significantly more than the 13,000,000 you predict he will earn over the next two seasons. That seemingly would cost way more than the names being thrown around here.
  8. He is at Driveline right now working on pitch creation (ridiculous slow motion video capture of his curveball). I'm way more bullish on Fulmer than Hansen.
  9. Merk had a weird article about Zack Collins possibly being ready in 2019 one day before Narvaez was surprisingly dealt. Not sure what that has to do with a seemingly more normal article about Fulmer... unless he had it stashed away to run during Spring training but decided he better run it now because....
  10. Lol. Morton is 35 and a 3.1 WAR pitcher. Hill is 38 and was a 1.9 WAR. Hill would not have gotten $18,000,000 this year on the open market. Closer to half. Abreu has little to no value over his existing contract. If the Sox were looking to move payroll that is the return they would expect to receive. Because that is 6 pitchers ahead of Hill. AND they are possibly trying to stay under the luxury tax. I think the Rich Hill thought process was a result of OTHERS trying to speculate what the Sox might be able to offer the Dodgers in regards to the Pederson trade rumor.
  11. Some here have liked the idea of acquiring Joc, some have not. Isn't that how the world works? The thought process is they need to move money off their books to be able to acquire another high priced free agent. We would be doing the Dodgers a favor for taking back 38 year old Rich Hill as he is not worth $18,000,000 this season. And Joc is only marginally more valuable than the $5,000,000 he will make this year and the raise he will seemingly get next year. So, no it shouldn't cost much more than Fulmer. Anything else to add Mr. Anderson?
  12. These were the deals i thought the Sox would be doing this offseason (albeit with prospects attached, not players with 2 years control remaining). So many clubs seemingly fighting to stay under the tax, feels like a real opportunity.
  13. I honestly don't want to trade him or anyone for a player (Joc) with 2 years of control remaining. I also agree that selling low sucks. At the same time I tried my hardest to find players that might entice the Rangers to part with a young controllable reliever (which is the only non-superstar need I can see the Dodgers having). I see almost nothing on the Whtie Sox roster that would actually help the Dodger's major league club. If the Dodgers are actually looking to make this deal, they need something in return they can't just go find on the free agent market, so I feel like there has to be a third team involved. But I will tell you, this place is going to be absolutely, positively, unbearable when Hahn starts moving prospects.
  14. If you can't trade a 24 year old that you demoted from AA last year, who has value that you can trade?
  15. Dodgers Receive: Jose LeClerc, Nate Jones Rangers Receive: Will Smith, Carson Fulmer, Alec Hansen White Sox Receive: Joc Pederson
  16. Even if this is true (that no one important is going anywhere) you are taking away opportunity that could be given to a player with control remaining. And this isn't just about Joc. I am looking at this offseason on a whole. 6+ players incoming that will be regular contributers on the big league roster, none with any control past 2020.
  17. What does Joc have left? Two years of control? Sounds like another stop-gap from the GM that said they were only interested in long term solutions. Glad all the posters here that are so desperate to win 75 games are getting their way.
  18. Something I've noticed: When "news breakers" follow up their tweet with the "thought process" on why a team would make the move, it is a major tell that they are full of crap. The "thought process" they are sharing is them explaining why THEY think this is something that might happen, and why THEY felt it was worth taking a stab at. If someone from a front office, or an agent just texts someone a hot tip, "news breakers" just say it is "what they heard", they don't speculate on the reasoning or attempt to defend the move.
  19. Yep. Harper was the 68th best player in baseball last year (WAR) and he will likely get the largest contract in history. "Horrible".
  20. I keep coming back to that... what if Machado and the Sox agreed to terms around the time they traded for Alonso, and the Sox are waiting to make a splash? Or they promised him they'd match Harper's deal? But then I keep coming back to that 300mm is sooooo much money that the Sox couldn't risk something getting messed up or falling apart.
  21. I believe the supplement would be illegal for a MLB player to use, so anyone who feels Frank isn't a pot calling the kettle black still has the Big Hurt wool over their eyes.
  22. If Jerry is trying to pay Machado half, why did he pay Jay triple?
