  1. Amen. Nothing against Seager but he is the kind of a player a contender plugs into a hole. Aim higher, Aim younger, or at worst Aim at a lottery ticket with some upside.... Seager is none of the above.
  2. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Nov 17, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) No way that nasty with shields in it i want seager LoL
  3. Sale, Frazier and Shields to the Dodgers in exchange for: Cody Bellinger, Willie Calhoun, Alex Verdugo, Micah Johnson, Brendon Davis, Jacob Scavuzzo.
  4. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) but the lure of a season package, even as small as 7 games, is to "lock in" prices below dynamic pricing. your $45 ticket is that much because you bought a 27 or 81 game package. the guy buying at the box office day of game has a much smaller commitment financially to the sox than you. Sure, that is right. But that isn't what I'm saying. I have a premium seat that sells for over $60 to virtually every game thanks to dynamic pricing. And that is a new development. Up until a few years ago that seat was either sold to season ticket holders for $45 (minus a slight % off type discount) or then sold the day they went onsale for that same $45. Now, thanks to dynamic pricing the Sox can either sell it for $45 to me for every game or sell them on ticketmaster for more. So I'm just pointing out that it would make sense that the Sox would want closer to what the ticket is worth, even from people buying 81 games at a time.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) What? There's no guarantee they will be stars right away lol they will have their struggles and may never end up being good. That is the spirit. I just think it would be much wiser to acquire players that are at least a year away. I don't want anyone that will help the team win games in 2017.
  6. Biggest problem with all of these trades is that the players we are receiving in return A. Are mostly mlb ready and won't allow the Sox to tank for top picks. B. Have only a year or two tops more team control than Sale/Q.
  7. I think the new "Dynamic Pricing" that teams are using to ask more for seats leading up to game day is supporting a raise in the cost of Season Tickets. My full seasons are in the $45 per ticket range (I don't watch it too close) and I'm pretty sure I've never seen them for less than $60 + fees on Ticketmaster.... and if the tickets became in real demand they cost $90+.
  8. My biggest problem with trading Sale & Q is that no one team has enough good talent that is far enough away from the bigs for my taste. One of the keys to a rebuild is getting those top few draft picks for a couple seasons. And if the Sox receive major league ready talent in exchange for Sale/Q, I'm afraid the Sox won't tank enough to get top picks. (Not to mention I think one of the only ways Jerry would approve selling is if he was convinced the team would still be competitive). It would take a complicated multi-team deal to garner enough 18-21 year olds to make me willing to part with either pitcher, and if you are in the "trade both or neither" group, you would have to pull off this sort of deal not once but twice. Tough task.
  9. Wonder how many times Hahn had to ring Coop's rotary phone before he was able to get him on the line?
  10. I like Brad Miller as a platoon partner for Anderson/Lawrie (technically also an option to play for Frazier/Abreu as well with Lawrie's ability to play 3rd). Lawrie seemingly has never lasted a full season and it wouldn't be a horrible idea to protect Anderson a bit against real tough right handed starters. Does he have much value? How bad is his defense? It seems it was initially league average in the middle infield but has graded poorly since. Not to mention the guy has spent his career hitting in pitcher's parks.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Neither one of them would have signed here if they were forced to take an option year. I don't think that is a guarantee. Jackson signed very late with seemingly the only team that was willing to give him an everyday job. I'm not sure that an 8 or 9 million dollar option for '17 would have cost the Sox more than a million more this season if anything at all. Latos is more of a stretch, as it appears much more likely that he took a discount to sign with the Sox BUT if a team wasn't willing to guarantee him a spot in the rotation how MUCH money could they have possibly been offering him? Say the Sox had to pay Latos 4 or 5 million in '16 to get an option for 8 million in '17... if KW/RH truly believed in him and weren't just placating a fan-base with a a recognizable name, paying for that option might have been worthwhile.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) I would imagine that at Jackson's age, if he has a legit bounceback season, he will want to chase a big contract in free agency, and who can blame him. That is why i am kind of shocked that KW/RH didn't get '17 options on both Jackson and Latos. Sure, it might have costed a little more money on the books for '16 (who really knows) but it would be really nice to have about an 8mil option on both players... especially considering that this offseason it appeared the Sox were still kind of on a two-three year plan. Unfortunate to see the Sox gamble on both players, giving them opportunities that likely didn't exist elsewhere, possibly have them come through, and then as a reward have to give them 3 year deals if you want them back.
  13. I was looking forward to having a professional, intelligent play-by-play guy call the games, but Jason's jokes, bits and general sarcasm are surprising. Not saying it is that bad, but kind of shocked that we are following Hawk with more schtick.
  14. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 10:49 PM) It's a pretty solid theory. Based on a tweet I got today, FutureSox PRETENDS TO KNOW the reason but has apparently been asked not to say anything. Baby issues would seem like a highly sensitive personal issue I could see not wanting leaked. Fixed it for you.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 12:55 PM) I'll give Hahn massive credit for his ability to negotiate contracts. Rarely do you see a number the Sox sign a guy for that makes you cringe. Hahn's secret negotiating tactic is to have a poor roster with tons of giant holes so free agents feel they will get a better opportunity and hence take less money.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 11:39 AM) Doesn't hurt anything, and it probably wouldn't be a bad thing for Rollins to be around Tim Anderson for six weeks. Wait until JRoll makes this team and takes 70% of the at-bats away from Saladino.
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) There are other players more in need of platooning than Adam Eaton. How many left handed pitchers are in the ALC? Not enough for me to be concerned with regards to Eaton. LaRoche is a no brainer but Eaton? Come on, that just nitpicking. In my first post I said it was a stretch but what I was really trying to demonstrate was how shallow our OF is when you pencil Avi everyday into RF. Worse than rolling the dice on Garcia everyday and praying he lives up to his potential, is starting the season without platoon partners for LaRoche, Melky and to a significantly lesser extent Eaton. Trying to demonstrate that the Sox getting another OF is not giving up on Avi. He'd face LHP and be the backup for 4 positions. If that doesn't still get him 300+ plate appearances I'd be very surprised.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) So every player without neutral platoon splits should be a part-timer? In most cases below average defenders with lopsided splits should. And just not starting vs LHP is far from making Eaton a part timer. He pinch hits (and likely stays in the game) the minute a RHP enters the game. He also would likely be the first backup for all three OF positions and the DH vs LHP.
  19. QUOTE (shysocks @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 01:13 PM) That's one year of splits based on a couple hundred plate appearances. In 2014, he was more than capable against lefties (110 wRC+). "No using small sample sizes to make your point".... "Here is a a small sample size to prove your point wrong".
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) No, he hasn't been good in the majors, and that's why he was DFA'd. However, he did fine in the minors, is a formerly highly regarded prospect, and would presumably be happy stashed in Charlotte. And them Sox still need SP depth. And we are actually in a position to win the claim for once. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...&position=P Wat?
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) Melky has a career 95 wRC+ against LHP, that's not something that needs to be platooned. The line about Eaton is nonsense too. A 3-4 WAR player is not an everyday player? Melky was an elite LF defender during his prime. Now he is a poor defensive outfielder and even if you think his bat will return to career averages this season I don't see anyone claiming his defense will get better. He shouldn't start vs LHP. Eaton is a poor offensive player (.291 wOBA, .054 ISO) vs LHP and a below average defender. In a perfect world he doesn't start vs LHP. How is that nonsense?
  22. OMG this team needs AT LEAST one more OF. Melky shouldn't face LHP: His bat vs LHP is bad, and couple that with his declining defense and this is closer to a no-brainer than most will assume. LaRoche shouldn't face LHP: HOW did he get 89 ABs vs LHP in '15? In a perfect world Eaton shouldn't face LHP: This is easily the furthest stretch of the three, but Eaton has zero career HRs vs LHP and sports a .686 OPS. If his defense continues to be below average then he is not an everyday player on a good team IMHO. Sticking Avi in a platoon with any of the three is PLENTY of opportunity for a player that performed as poorly as Garcia did in '15. If you believe in Garcia's defense improving and feel he needs the experience in the field, then platoon him with Melky. For me, I saw enough of his defense last year that I'd platoon him with LaRoche at DH. But lets just say you stick Avi in LF with Cabrera, that leaves the Sox with no right handed DH and absolutely no RF. This team NEEDS two more bats. One can be more of a complimentary right handed hitter to work with LaRoche, but the other needs to be a legitimate everyday right fielder.
  23. Ishikawa's agent is Jim McDowell brother of Jack McDowell.
  24. I'm not certain the Sox could acquire Odorizzi & Jennings without giving up Rodon. Which doesn't make much sense.
