Above average controlling the run game. Average - Below average on passed balls. Below average - bad on framing.

Simply not true.

420 Opt outs at 6/9

I mean the Sox do hold the ability to non-tender Colome if he stinks... so that has gotta be worth something, but I still find this puzzling. And I'm no Omar fan but we are talking about the 5th best offensive Catcher in baseball last season, who is 26 years old, who makes no money and seemingly could improve his framing numbers (even if just by luck). Which ironically sounds like what the Sox are looking for... to fill the hole they made by dealing Narvaez. The only explanation I can think of is that Hahn thought the relievers were gonna get more $$$. Which also makes sense if we are supposedly "in" on several free agent relievers, because if I'm looking at the roster, bullpen help is the last thing we need and the easiest thing to add if the rebuild takes a leap forward sooner than expected.

Rick overestimated the reliever market.... Colome is going to get pretty close to 2/20 from the Sox. We gave up Narvaez for the right to pay Alex about what he would have gotten on the free market. Joe Kelly 3/25? Not the end of the world, but not great either!

Makes $8,000,000 for Nova seem a tad steep.

Rosenthal: Could Harper be headed to the southside
GREEDY replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not to mention, if you are a GM and Friedman is calling you trying to trade you an OF.... you know why he is calling and you know he is motivated. Nothing will change if they sign Harper first. -
I am downright shocked by the amount of fans that so desperately want the Sox to put together a 75 win team.

In all fairness there are about 25 teams that could use Grandal, 20 of which are closer to the playoffs than the White Sox.

Then when he gets called out for making shit up, he essentially cites the rationale he used while making up the fake news lol <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">What - he can’t have been seen in Chicago these last few days ? Harper is a Bulls fans right? White Sox have the $$$ right ? Just saying -It could be happening.</p>— Omar Ramos (@OmarTvMusica) <a href="https://twitter.com/OmarTvMusica/status/1072586110616907777?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 11, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> -

That guy follows 4,000 people. People who do that are trying to amass followers. You know what else people who are trying to get followers do? Site fake sources and take stabs at breaking news on twitter. -

They also could use a C, SP, and RP. While this doesn't take them out, I'd have to wager it reduces the chances they will spend big on another corner outfielder. -

The oddest part of this whole Harper/Machado saga was why Hahn/KW were so public with their interest in signing either player. Why would they be setting themselves up to fail? I couldn't wrap my brain around it for the longest time. Well, I finally have at least a crockpot theory as to why they would do this: How gross would it be if this offseason was a big part of the rebuild plan, Jerry signed off on it before the Sale trade and now that we are here Jerry is getting cold feet.... and Hahn and KW are trying to put pressure on Jerry to keep his end of the bargain. -
Morosi: White Sox interested in "both Machado and Harper"
GREEDY replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Right. That is what I am saying. I think an opt-out after year 4 is of tremendous value and the attitude I see from fans is they are willing to give an opt-out away as an afterthought. I'm just hoping that in an effort to stretch to $400,000,000 or even 450 ? Boras might be willing to (foolishly) not take or at least not get very player friendly opt-outs. It is tricky for the Sox though, because it has to be tempting to front load the deal while payroll is low or at the very least not backload it... and that will make opt-outs more complicated. -

GREEDY replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It should be a deal breaker. Fans in general seem to tremendously underrate the value of opt-outs. Luckily, I can see Boras/Harper being so obsessed with getting that WOW total $ number that they don't push this angle as hard as they could. -
Sources: After the Dodgers missed out on Goldy, Michael J. Duarte (NBC reporter with only 7k followers?) got on the internets and tried to figure out who LA might target now to fill their hole at first base. He even copy and pasted Abreu's "stats" right there in his tweet. While the Dodgers might very well be interested in Abreu, this is pure speculation from a wannabe insider.

There are numerous teams that see themselves as 1 top of the rotation guy "away". Most are on some sort of budget. Taking the risk on Eovaldi because they just can't afford a top level starter (either they missed out on Corbin or they don't have the assets for Kluber/Thor) makes significantly more sense for those organizations than the White Sox. If the Sox make a move on a starter I predict it will be a wasteful signing more in the vain of an innings eater that might help them win 75 games in 2019. This team is not a Gio Gonzalez away from making the playoffs, and the Gios of the world will be still out there when the Sox are ready.

Bud Selig swoops in and rules it a tie.

Upside? To me upside means the chance for a player to become a superstar or to significantly outplay their contract. I think there is less than a 1% chance Seager is an MVP candidate anytime in the remaining 4 years of his contract and around a 5% - 10% chance that he outplays the around $18,000,000 per year he is owed. I'd call that NO upside. This is the kind of bandaid move the Sox would have done prior to the rebuild.
