  1. Heard a rumor that Robin will also miss a three game series in August when the carnival is town. Both he and Hahn think it is important that he spends time with his family. And everyone knows it is tough to get from the teacups to the ballpark, without first swinging by the funnel cake stand.... so you might as well make a weekend of it.
  2. I didn't attend my own college graduation... because I just started a new job and didn't want to miss.
  3. If Springer yelled at the ump like that, imagine how he treated his barber.
  4. Would just like to point out that almost every team in baseball could use another catcher, and half of them could use two.
  5. Bringing in Zach Duke to face Valencia/Colabello/Pillar was the worst move I've witnessed by any manager all season.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) The Sox are winning 9-7 but the whining continues. Why do you pay attention to gsmes if winning doesn't even make you happy? So, we can complain about bringing in a LHP to face Valencia only if the Sox are losing?
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) Duke doesn't face many lefties. Right, because opposing managers get their right handed pinch hitters in there to face him... lol.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) Duke isn't a LOOGY. Says you and robin. Not to mention Valencia is the most extreme split woba hitter in baseball. I didn't look but I'd bet Colabello and Pillar aren't far behind. Horrific bullpen management.
  9. Bringing in Zach Duke to face: Colabello, Valencia & Pillar is a FIREABLE OFFENSE I cannot believe my eyes.
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 08:04 PM) Cle crew as confused as we are why they threw him a strike. Haha feels good not to be the dumbass team. LaRoche vs LHP is going to drive me insane this summer.
  11. Really could use a right handed outfield bat to spell Laroche at DH vs LHP. Adam would still be very valuable in a pinch hit role where you can force an opposing manager to burn two relievers, or let Laroche hit in a plus matchup vs a righty out of the pen.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) How did Quentin come up? Even if he could still play the outfield, the Sox have Cabrera and Garcia in the corners, and then DH is covered by Abreu/LaRoche. I think most people thought that if Viciedo made the team, he would DH vs LHP with LaRoche sitting (and pinch hitting). So TCQ could now fill that role.
  13. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 28, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Crazy as it sounds, you could actually argue that Quentin makes some sense for this team right now! Except he is essentially the same player you jut dfa'd, but without the lotto ticket upside and for double the money.
  14. Maybe the "Strong Arm of Beckham" grabbed Hahn by the balls and forced him to make a deal?
  15. This is my favorite thread in years. I'll be so upset if Hahn lets LaRoche & Gillaspie face LHP this season. Valencia & Denorfia fit perfectly. I'd also be open to rolling the dice one last time with Viciedo at DH vs LHP, but would prefer a solid defender like Denorfia to Viciedo's upside (which is now virtually a lotto ticket).
  16. I live in the very far southwest suburbs and then spend weekends at my place in the city. I would attend games during the week, but cannot. I used to split seasons with a friend but no longer buy them. The traffic on I-55 is so unpredictable it makes it difficult. On a good day I can be to the park in 50 minutes, often it will take 90 minutes, and maybe 20% of the time: it will take over 2 hours. Sometimes there is a reason (friday night, holiday, accident etc), but often there seems to be no rhyme or reason to how long the commute will be. It is due to the roulette wheel that is I-55 that I must skip out of work early, and leave three hours before a game, if I want to go. It turns going to the game into a huge ordeal, and this ordeal is something I can only do a dozen times a year (instead of 40). Traffic was not this unpredictable a decade ago.
  17. Hahn needs to find a young, spanish as a first language coaching staff.
  18. Hillbilly talk: Jerry hates the Cubs, a few days in Beverly Hills in the dead of winter might be a nice excuse to try and drive up the price Theo has to pay. I'm not sure why the Cubs aren't the major favorite to land Tanaka. They have been waiting to pay for something that made sense for them, and a 25 year old pitcher definitely fits the bill. I think he also makes sense for the White Sox and about 20 other teams but I don't see Theo letting him go unless he just doesn't love something he sees in Masahiro.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) They should be getting Conor Gillaspie ABs. Fools. I can accept your stance if it is solely based on emotional attachment to Paulie (which it clearly is), but to try and justify it any other way is just incorrect. Hopefully, more moves are coming down the pipeline (not just dumping Kepp and/or Dunn) and Konerko's presence won't make a difference, but it currently does.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) If Davidson is not on the opening day roster, it isn't because of Konerko. It would be because of Davidson. Why would Garcia sit for Konerko? That makes zero sense. Abreu might get a break, but the White Sox gave him $68 million. He is going to play. The guy who will have his time cut is Adam Dunn vs. LHP. I don't think anyone is opposed to that. All other complaining, is complaining to complain. It really is ridiculous. If the Sox win 85 games, they should have lost more so they would get a better draft pick. If they have Konerko on the bench, it's going to really hurt them because a guy who most likely should be in AAA anyway isn't going to be on the roster. Give it a rest. Konerko on the roster hampers Ventura a little bit, but not enough to make the difference between going to the playoffs and having a miserable season. I disagree. If Konerko isn't on the roster it is possible (not ideal) that Gillaspie, Davidson & Keppinger all make the opening day roster. In fact, I think as the team currently is assembled (minus PK) that would be the most likely scenario. With Konerko, it is impossible. I don't see how a lineup with De Aza & Viciedo in the corners with Abreu at 1st and PK as the designated hitter isn't possible? If PK isn't on the team it allows Viciedo to DH... but I understand that is a stretch and would only cost Garcia a few appearances but it was worth pointing out. Unless one of the kids flat out has a horrible spring and just cannot be started at the major league level, I don't see how PK won't take at-bats from one of them.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) lol. I am curious who this poor unfortunate sole that is going to help is in the future, that is being blocked by Paul Konerko is, because I sure don't see it. I think there is a real chance that Davidson doesn't break with the big club because of Konerko's place on the roster. Also, I think it is possible Viciedo could have plate appearances at DH taken away by PK. It could stream all the way down to Avisail sitting for PK as well. Finally, the most obvious is Abreu. So, there are 4 players that are crucial to the future of this ballclub that will be directly effected by your opportunity to chant "Paulie, Paulie".... from your couch at home because no one goes to the.....
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 08:23 AM) This is the side of baseball I love the most. White Sox fans do not deserve a "feel good curtain call" for PK. Like most fan bases in baseball, Sox fans only attend games when the team is winning. Trotting PK back out there for everyone to chant "Paulie" for one last go around, does not help this team win games in 2014 nor does it build towards future winning seasons. If Hahn can find a way to keep PK on the roster just to DH vs LHP in a platoon with Dunn, and it does not take away from Viciedo's plate appearances, or the Gilaspie/Davidson platoon at 3B that I want to see, then I'm ok with it... but I just don't see how that can happen as the roster is currently positioned.
  23. If a young player is vocal & eccentric he is annoying and self-centered, when he is a veteran he is a leader and a gamer.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) someone quoted Sox brass as being surprised how poorly developed his hit tool was "Leury has a poorly developed tool" - Sox Brass
