  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 31, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) you DO know he's batting .400 correct? Small sample size. You trade for guys what you think they will do in the future, not what they did past. There is no way he does this all season. Low OBP thus doesn't get on enough to use his speed enough.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 31, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) No it won't...Dodgers will still give him away for nothing if someone takes on his salary. The price you will pay is in Wins if Juan Pierre is playing everyday on your team.
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 30, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) We could have had him for a bag of balls prior to Manny's injury. Now, he is indispensable for them until Manny returns. and I still have no interest in him.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) Are you kidding..I'm worried we'll give Pods a contract extension. ...and nor far behind is trading for Juan Pierre.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 30, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) When you take away 1 game and a player's numbers drop from meh/bad to horrendous it means he's giving you very little consistency. Well it also shows how small the sample size is. People, Pods didn't magically find talent in the minors. He wasn't that good in 2005, he was bad in 2006, and he's bad in 2009.
  6. I think Josh Fields goes up to the plate already having an 0-2 count.
  7. is anybody else getting a slight feedback sound on the broadcast or is it just my crappy surround sound?
  8. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 30, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) can we afford Oswalt???? we could have afforded Peavy? I'd say no, but management was still willing to do it. Also, there is a lot of money coming off the books after this season. As for Richard, I'm still not sold guys. His last 3 starts have been against the Blue Jays, Pirates, and Royals. IMO the Blue Jays are the only team in that group with a real offense, so I'll give him that.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) Its not what he preaches. He's not going to make Jim Thome a singles hitter. Jermaine Dye has had a lot of success working with him as has Konerko who was dead in the water with Gary Ward. Carlos Quentin was a MVP guy last year. He's been hurt this season. He works with a hitter's strengths. The White Sox have been a power hitting roster for a long while. The problem with this kind of roster is the inconsistent run totals from game to game. They probably do rely on hitting homers to score too much, but that's not on the hitting coach. If the White Sox acquired some .320 hitters, I think they would be just fine under Greg Walker. Its a fallacy that Walker has everyone swinging from the heals. Who has been a significantly worse hitter when they came to the Sox and who has been significantly better after leaving the White Sox and working with another hitting coach. Please take aging into consideration, and don't use Nick Swisher, because one of the reasons they dumped him was because he refused to listen to White Sox coaches. His hitting coach was Steve Swisher. The answer is nobody. Scott Podsednik hit significantly less homers with the White Sox than he did with the Brewers. To add to something that is nearly perfect, if people want to bash Walker for the Sox hitting woes, then he MUST also get credit for turning around some awful hitters. Alexei last year comes to mind. Ditto Konerko's turn around this year. What it comes down to is this team is still full of veterans, who know how to hit. I'm not sure how Walker makes the Sox better, considering the bad defense, spotty pitching, and overall a slow team.
  10. He might play his way out of the White Sox price range.
  11. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 8, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) OK, which one are you - Boers or Bernstein? When you have to resort to name calling it just means you lost the argument. Pitching inside is a whole different thing than hitting people to send a message. Again, all the crap you guys wanted and thought had a carry over effect didn't, the Rangers beat our brains in on Sunday. And why are people getting mad that Quentin gets hit so much? He does stand about halfway over the plate.....so IMO he's kinda off limits to this whole thing (unless thrown at head etc.)
  12. said it in another thread and I'll say it here. The message was really sent for Sundays game. I mean you could just tell Texas hitters were very uncomfortable.
  13. good to see the "message sent" really carried over into Sunday. Texas hitters looked really uncomfortable.
  14. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ May 8, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Oh please, how old are you guys?I bet you never saw MJ's games in the 80's,you've only seen the highlights or you wouldn't be talking this ridiculous junk. One more thing,if you are going to point out positive accomplishments that LeBron has done at his young age,you also got to point out that in his first Finals he was basically worthless, and pointing out how young he was is a cop out, can't have it both ways. Nevermind how he was that whole damn team, going up against basically the NBA dynasty of the 2000 in the Spurs. And wasn't it LeBron who by himself beat the Pistons in the 4th quarter that year? People really need to remember Jordan lost a few series before winning anything. And oh yeah, he had one of the 50 greatest players ever on his team. When LeBron has someone halfway decent playing along side him, let me know.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 8, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) If a player got run someone would definitely step up. Fighting is cut down because of Buttman and the idiotic way he and Cornhole Campbell have been running the league the last few years. Also, brawls are far more likely to occur in a one-sided playoff game than a regular series game. Why? To send a message for the remaining games in the series. If a hitter is more comfortable, then he is more likely to have a good AB. If he has a good AB, he is more likely to achieve a positive result from that AB. Oh, and pitchers would not "be plunking every damn hitter they faced" because that would lead to more men on base. I love how you keep going back to plunking hitters left and right when the majority of people here keep saying that brushbacks send the same message and hitting opposing players is not necessarily what we are advocating them to do. Actually, fighting was up since years at past, at least at the all-star break. I can't find any numbers to see where it ended up, however. But the "sending a message" is another cliche that needs to go away. Again, send the message by beating them at hockey/baseball whatever. As a competitor, I'd be a lot more pissed about losing a game then some meaningless fight. And just because a majority of people think it's right, doesn't make it so. I just don't see how hitting players or brushing them back directly effects the outcome of a baseball game (i.e. helps you win). Stop saying "because it makes them feel comfortable" because frankly it's unmeasurable and dumb to argue about. Get hitters out and beat them at baseball, that's what drives them nuts.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 8, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) No, not really actually. That's like saying Martin Havlat stood up for his teammates last night b/c he scored the tieing goal late in the 3rd. Valuable and essential to teams? Absolutely. Does it equate to "standing up for your teammates" as the thread is about? Absolutely not. Totally different things there. But what "stings" or hurts the Canucks more? Stupid ass fighting and "sending a message" or winning that game and evening up that series? More on Hockey below, but why is there less fighting in the playoffs? Don't teams need to "send a message?" No, ofcourse not, teams are not taking stupid ass penalties that hurt their team. Same goes in baseball, or at least it's how I feel. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 8, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) I bet you arent in favor of fighting in hockey either. Self policing in sports is something I am very in favor of doing, especially since AL pitchers dont have to face 90 mph fastballs at the plate. Actually I don't mind it, but I was VERY embarrassed to be a Blackhawks fan after that crucial Canucks game at the end of the regular season, where all the fights happened. But notice how fighting is cut down a lot in the playoffs, why, because most of the time it's silly garbage. Yeah it's fun to watch, and sometimes fights are warranted, but anytime you can favor skill, speed, and talent over fighting, I'll take it. And nobody has proved to me how a bean ball war helps a baseball team win more games. If it did, pitchers would be plunking every damn hitter they faced. Stop with the silly "hitters are more comfortable" argument, because I can just as easily say that hitters would fear another retaliation on our team, after we hit/brushed back one of their guys. Moreover, there is no statistical analysis that proves the bean ball argument. Brushbacks? fine with me. But this whole "we need to drill the next hitter" crap needs to die along with team chemistry, game to game momentum, etc etc.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 7, 2009 -> 06:50 AM) You guys have the blinders on if you don't say LeBron. Totally agree. LeBron is doing things MJ wished he could have done at 24. Better 3 point shooter and overall just a better polished game considering his age. But I don't know why I should be surprised at the poll results, coming from this city. Remember the Kobe stuff? WE CAN'T GET KOBE THIS CORE IS YOUNG!!!!!11
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 8, 2009 -> 07:13 AM) It's not about that. At all. It's about standing up for your teammates and letting other teams know that they can't come inside, knock your guys down or hit them free of any consequences. I, too have noticed that it seems we've been hit a lot this year. It's not about tit for tat, it's about protecting your teammates. That doesnt mean you have to throw a heater at someones head either. But how does it help win you ball games? You know what also helps you stand up for your teammate? Getting 2 out base hits and picking up the pitcher with good defense. Beanball wars usually lead to premature ejections, and with our bullpen right now, I'd love to stay out of it as often as possible. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ May 8, 2009 -> 08:35 AM) If this stuff is for losers, why is KC in first place? Because it's May 8th. That team will come back to Earth.
  19. No, this stuff is for losers. How about actually beating KC, that helps a lot more than some silly ass bean ball war that leads to suspensions/fines/and embarrassment.
  20. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) Watching Alexie bat this season has been putrid. . Our pitching has been pretty bad. . The Royals have the best all around team in the central i hate to say. . . Nah, it's the Tigers. Better linup BY FAR and much better pitching.
  21. QUOTE (zenryan @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) f*** this team and f*** alexei ramirez. This isnt just a slow start for him. He gets out the same exact way every time he's at the plate. The league has adjusted to him and he isnt smart enough to make his own adjustments. No, he's just not that good enough. I mean hell all last year he swung at that low and away breaking pitch.
