The Official "Please Acquire Elijah Dukes" Thread
Paint it Black replied to TheHolyBovine's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) Eric Bynes would work. Ewwww. We have a forth outfielder who can't hit, his name is Brian Anderson. Also, the DBacks would have to eat that monstrosity of a contract. -
The Official "Please Acquire Elijah Dukes" Thread

QUOTE (TheHolyBovine @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 08:33 PM) Guess it depends on how you view Poreda. I think he's relief all the way, but that's just me. Would totally agree. Poreda doesn't have a real third pitch. And as bad as this sounds, if it wins us more ballgames than that's fine with me. If you are building any pro team on the basis of "character guys" it would be tough to fill a 25 man roster. Just sayin'. -
Special thread dedicated to shots at Wise

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) What due to protection? I have seen studies in the past that prove protection is signifigantly overated and arguably does not exist... in the sense that it is believed to. I personally just feel he would try and do too much and get away from what he does best... hit with risp. He has hit well with risp his whole life, his oppurtunities will be limited too much for my liking in the 2 hole. Not to sound picky, but there have also said hitting with RISP is also a flukey thing that does not translate year to year. But I think that the current line up is pretty strong at the bottom (or at least the lineup we saw today). But I think you're right about the overvaluation of the "seeing more fastballs" because Ramirez has nightmares of laying off breaking pitches. -

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) They will not bat him second, at least from what they have hinted at. Also ramirez would be wasted there, pierzynski and ramirez will get on at similar paces, both fairly high contact, neither walk, ramirez has more power, and also ramirez is much more likely to get exposed in the two hole. Good pitchers will bury him with breaking pitches if they can locate them. But some would counter that argument with he might see more fastballs. Either way though, Ramirez would be better suited for the two hole than Wise, assuming you move Getz up to leadoff. Who else on this team can hit number two? Uggh make it stop, please. -

anyone see the new Hawks commercial during the sox game today? It involved playoff bears and was hilarious. -
Should the NBA Create Its Own HOF?
Paint it Black replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
You heard it on B&B, and yes there should. I think Boers said something like "To think Jordan is in the same hall as some woman's coach five people have heard of is absurd." Couldn't agree more. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) I really won't be surprised if Getz is already leading off tomorrow with Fields in the 2-hole. Man, I hope you're right. Wise just looked completely over matched in his first 3 at bats. As far as the bunt goes, yes it is inexcusable, but bunting has been downright awful on this team for four years or so now. -

QUOTE (R.J. @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Carry on. This guy offers nothing that can't be replaced by any number of minor league free agents, and he's getting the most at-bats of anyone on the team. Step right up to claim your prize. I came here to say that. To pile on, Wise is a 31 year old journeyman I had not heard of until last year. If you bat him 9th, fine, whatever I'll complain less. But nothing is more irritating than the "you need the fastest guy leading off" argument. It's baseball stupid. -
Order for me goes White Sox, Tigers, Indians, Royals, Twins. But I would argue that quality starts are only part of the equation. Obviously defense is huge, and currently is where the White Sox have the biggest weakness.

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) If you're driving between 7-10 turn the dial to the score because Jason Goff is really good. Easily my favorite show. I don't like basketball that much, but Goff talking Bulls is great, I don't know why. As far as everything else goes, I'm 22 and I consider myself a Score guy. I generally try and stay anyway from anything ESPN, but I don't mind listening to Tirico and Van Pelt if they are talking about the right topic. rBut the only show I really follow and listen to everyday is Boers and Bernstein. They're hilarious, straightforward, and honest. I like that they put dumb callers in their place, because calling into a radio show has about the same anonymity as posting opinions on the internet. Dan Patrick is also pretty good on 670. Also, sometimes the weekend guys on the score are not all that bad. I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to Murph talk about who should lead off for the Cubs.

Personally, I would just fork over the 30 extra bucks (cause it's what I'm going to end up doing when I get some money). Picture in picture idea is cool, DVR feature, and you don't have to listen to the other teams broadcasters (of if you want you obviously can).

Sox sign Konerko's Personal Batting Practice Pitcher
Paint it Black replied to Wanne's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought Justin Verlander was PK's batting practice pitcher. -
QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) Maybe our organization should stop acting 2nd class. Many here (including myself) get annoyed at ESPN being east coast biased. Maybe they pay more attention to the Red Sox and Yanks because they are a class above us. At least we have mullet night lol wut? Sure the Fisk thing did not look good, but that was 1993. I don't really understand how anybody could call the recent organization classless when it was very clear Frank's White Sox career was going to be over and I remember him sounds very content with it, until he ran his mouth for some reason. Face it, baseball is a business, and they got better with the upgrade in Thome. Frank was a great player, but when organizations keep guys around for sentimental value, you become the Houston Astros.

The Big Hurt burned those bridges after 2005. I would love for this to happen, but it will take a long time.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) CBSSportsline.com does pretty good pieces on all the teams too. Sox were done early, so there were some details they couldn't catch. For all those that still go to ESPN.com, I pity you, because CBSSportsline.com is so much better. I can't stand cbssportsline. Their site is a giant clusterf***. However, I really go to ESPN to read Keith Law and Rob Neyer and that's it. Yahoo! sports is fantastic IMO.

16 year old hitting 500 ft homers...
Paint it Black replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) I coached travel baseball teams from my hometown in the summers and one year we went to a tournament in Cooperstown. We were a really good team, I mean we lost two games the entire summer. We had some big kids, too. One was 6-feet, but lanky. So we thought we would be competitive there and we were, but we got blown out by one team from Texas who had a kid 6-2, built with facial hair. Seriously, these kids were 12 and 13 and this kid was enormous. He won the HR derby and set a record for most HRs and hit moon shots. Funniest thing is that kid has nothing on this kid. I still can't imagine how big kids are getting at such a young age. Why is this kid catching? If his future is hitting, why hurt his knees. It's already stunted Mauer's growth. I got to play in the tournement, I had a blast. Do you mind if I ask what team you coached? I played for Wasco if you have heard of us. /threadjack. -

QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) I hope one day teams will stop negotiating with Boras. I got no problem with someone wanting to get a lot of money, but this is getting ridiculous. There really needs to be a set salary for each slot that can't be broken. The NFL needs that as well. Why? So that the owners can have more money in their pockets? -
WhiteSox - All Time Home Grown vs. Acquired Teams
Paint it Black replied to scenario's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Sully Baseball @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) I did include Buehrle. Granted it was in the pen and I was apologetic about putting him in there... Hey, at least I found a spot for him. Plus the list of home grown White Sox relievers hasn't been overwhelming I saw it on there, I just did not express myself correctly lol. either way great work. I had low expectations for the link and came out with a lot of info I did not know. The link was definitly passed on to other white sox fans -

Only problem I have is having Alex Fernandez on the starters list over Mark Buehrle. MB has been much more consistent and a staple to the staff. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) /waits for comments and complaints on why the Sox were chosen as the last team. I blame the Tribune.

Who's Been to Camelback: Tips and Advice?
Paint it Black replied to champs2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
just got back today and I already miss Arizona. Great facilities all around. My one piece of advice: Just buy a lawn seat unless you know the game is going to be crowded. I paid like six bucks I think for my lawn ticket and sat 12 rows up behind home plate with no hassles. Save your money for beer. Traffic did suck leaving though, and rush hour doesn't help at all. -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) He went to ISU so I love him. I don't want him wearing a Sox jersey though. THIS. Isn't it crazy that he received the highest signing bonus from an ISU athlete ever, let alone getting drafted in the second round.
