  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 06:40 PM) Candidates: Tim Wakefield Yeah, cause boy did he look good in September on into the playoffs.
  2. QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) How about we sign Ryan Dempster and then trade Javy to the Cubs to help them fill the gap created by losing Dempster. A double win? Meh. I try avoid pitchers coming off contract years.
  3. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=neyer_rob Rob Neyer usually has pretty insightful things to say, and this is no exception. Neyer makes his argument, and I'll make mine short. Name me a better 4th starter, I dare you.
  4. Wondering if the great people of soxtalk can refer me to a good blackhawks board. thanks in advance
  5. I don't think this team needs another outfielder that is a defensive liability.
  6. Thanks for the heads up on this. I have had this in my favorites since that great night, and still listen to it periodically.
  7. I would go with Bob Brenly as well. Ned Yost did his best Willie Randolph impersonation the last two seasons, so why bring him in? On a side note, if Brenly does take the job it will give me absolutely zero incentive to watch cub games. I really enjoy listening to him, am I alone on this as far as sox fans go?
  8. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 12:44 AM) MLBTradeRumors mentioned we may be interested in Mike Lowell. Anyone care to comment on that? I have kind of mixed feelings on the matter. Meh, I think Lowell is underrated if that is possible from someone who plays on the east coast, but if the white sox are interested in him, why not take a flier on Crede for one year? Nobody in their right mind will give him a multi-year deal coming off back surgery.
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) What is the Angels' outlook at 1b/DH? Is Teix expected to return? I can't see the Angels making another splash in the market this off season, after the past two, but who knows. There has been some talk of him going to the Yankees because Giambi is off the books. Baltimore is also a possibility but he won't take a hometown discount IMO.
  10. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 12:59 AM) If that is the case, I would LOVE to have Fielder, and would give up a ton to get him. Mo started to break down at age 34. Prince is 24. As a 32 year old, Mo still hit 36 HR's with an .863 OPS. Vaughn ate his way out of baseball, that's what I meant rather than a numbers comparison.
  11. Was a Freshman at ISU, and I had like 11 other people in my dorm room. I remember stepping on a playstation controller (foot was sore for days afterwords haha) and going nuts. Pure bliss.
  12. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) Also for those who don't like Javy's clutch stats, than don't look at Peavy's playoff stats.... No to Peavy. THIS. Also, want to echo the Padres want to go young, and our only young "talent" is not big league ready. Nor do we really have much of it.
  13. Man I want to go so bad this year. This spring break will be my last before I join the real world. Yet none of my good friends are white sox fans. Such a dilemma...
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) But you know what...some of that they brought on themselves by focusing so hard on winning this year. Although they will load up on draft picks from CC and probably Sheets and that will help...having LaPorta in their system still would make a big move still possible for them. You're right, that they went for it all and missed. But from some of the scouting I have read of LaPorta, some say he might be a good hitter, but not really as good as Travis Haffner before he fell off big time. I guess he is not regarded as highly as one thought. I also wouldn't touch Prince Fielder even though he is a left handed hitter. Fielder= the next Mo Vaughn IMO
  15. Whenever I hear the name Brett Meyers I think of that interview where a reporter asked Meyers to spell retard after he called him one, and Meyers couldn't. He just seems like a punk, and I still think hes on the downside of his career
  16. I'll take Vasquez over Conteras, thanks. Vasquez is a good fourth starter, plus I don't think Conteras will be anything worth keeping around after his injury. Plus, hes like 3467343894367 years old. I would not touch Brett Meyers at all.
  17. just echoing why would he want to leave the NL? It's still light years behind the AL talent wise.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) A 100% healthy white sox team wins the WS IMO. We were in all 3/4 of the TB games and if we're healthy, Javi doesn't pitch and there are no 3-day rest starts. TCQ 100% Crede +Count _________ '08 champs Too man "if's" If the Rays hadn't lost Longoria for a month, they end up with the best record. Javy pitching like crap= less talent than the Rays basically. I actually thought we matched up well with Boston or the Angles. Did not want to see the Rays.
  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) KW should pick one of the prospect-type infielders that he thinks will NOT make it, and pretend to like him ala Quinten. Let that info slip out, and see some of the other teams fall all over themsleves trying to 'steal' the guy from KW, who meanwhile quietly pursues his real goal. He has worked magic pickng up people that others aren't too high on the last few years, maybe someone will try to intercept his next target. Yeah well, this has been tried with many bad prospects who we "the next thing." Guys like Brian Anderson and Joe Borchard come to mind. Remember, IIRC the White Sox wanted to give up BA in that deal with the Diamondbacks for Vazquez. The Sox said "How about you take Brian Anderson" and I'm sure the reply went something like "Um, how about we take Chris Young, instead." The Brian Roberts name is intriguing. IMO, a lineup with Roberts and Furcal (if somehow both could be signed) at the top of the order would excite me.
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) He isn't a fan of Williams, which means he is going to hate on pretty much anything White Sox. He is still bitter about the Wells trade. This myth has been proven wrong about 1000000 times now. Law was about 8 months LATE to that party. Also, some of his "hate" for Alexei is true. Longoria > Alexei. No contest. I don't understand why some people think he would risk his career for a personal "hate" for the white sox.
  21. This season doesnt sit well with me. Sure, I was not expecting a division title, but where do you go from here? Face it, the window is closing, and this team is just older and slower, and it doesn't help that the farm system is bad. It does work in our favor that the Tigers are old. I don't think the Twins are still any damn good. I think the Royals are the team to look out for, and I think the Indians will win 90 next year. This team will need a lot of work to compete in 2009. Remember people, it's not about division titles, it's about world series titles. I believe this team is a long way away from that.
  22. If you can find a taker for Swisher, I wouldn't mind seeing him go. Let Crede walk. See if the Rangers want Vagquez. Want to sign some kind of speed. And a good 4th or 5th starter. I think the market for bullpen help will be insane, and I also think the pen was okay compared to the rest of the league.
  23. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 11:48 PM) I'm ALWAYS optimistic, but for the first time I have SERIOUS doubts. A team with a ton of momentum facing KC; a team with no heart, no soul and their heads seemingly literally up their asses facing Cleveland... outlook = not good. We'll literally need a miracle. Uggh, the "heart and soul" argument. How do you measure it. We have played piss poor on the road all year, im kinda suprized people are shocked by this outcome. Either way, they are tied in the loss column. I just wish we could have made up that Tigers game sooner.
  24. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) This team is too old and tired. The gas ran out along time ago. The Twins are younger and actually know how to play baseball. Keith Law says the twins are just lucky. Look, say what you want but we are better than the Twins. This whole "they hit will with RISP just look at their BARISP" is a load of crap. You know who is near the top in BARISP? The Pirates. I still think the Royals will be tough up there. Face it, KC has more speed than us. And Liriano still is not the same guy he was a couple years ago.
