  1. I got to go to one of the final games at Tiger Stadium. I was an early teenager so I didn't get to appreciate it...even though I thought I was at the time. I have also been to: The Cell countless times Wrigley 5 or 6 times Miller Park twice. Love that stadium.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) It's like how people b**** about Miguel Cabrera getting so heavy. Who the f*** cares, as long as they hit, they can be as fast as they want. These players will get their ass in shape when they have the chance to sign a 8 yr contract. Yeah, cause getting paid and fat worked out for Mo Vaughn so well
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:08 AM) If Bailey's issues have anything to do with some mechanical issues, there is no doubt in my mind that once Don Cooper gets to him, he's going to blossom. the sound of "He's also added a high-80s cutter to give him a pitch with more lateral movement." and "Don Cooper" together make me very happy inside.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:02 AM) Tell me about it. Some of these guys here are straight ridiculous. We go through this s*** every year. A big or even small trade is made. OGRHDSFGASHODS! THIS TRADE SUCKS! KENNY SHOULD BE FIRED! WORST TRADE IN HISTORY! Then the trade works out and they pull the "I'll eat crow" or whatever card. Kenny has more than enough positive history when it comes to moves like this, assuming the trade is even legit. LOL my two most favorite threads on this board are the ones from the BMac trade and the trade for GFloyd. I had a different user name then, BUT I liked both those trades and took a lot of s*** for it. Not to brag, but I was in the "Kenny has done this before dudes..." camp.
  5. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:00 AM) Slav, my problem is the Sox have already "lost" close to 40 million in salary from last season. That should be enough to be able to sign a FA or two if needed. Dumping Dye for a "project" to me is bulls*** given what has already gone on this off-season with Swisher and Vazquez. I'm not opposed to trading Dye. But doing it so it frees up more payroll room doesn't fly with me. Not after they have raised ticket prices and cut 35+ of payroll already. Who do you want them to sign that is reasonable? IMO, the free agent market sucks besides the obvious top 4 or 5.
  6. I posted this in the other thread, but I think it needs repeating It makes a lot of sense to trade Dye. Awful range factor, but still could sell him on the fact that he has been one of the most consistent hitters the past 4 years or so. But with that being said, I'm not sure what the market for Dye is considering his contract and the relatively cheap/younger corner outfielders still in the free agent market.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) Everything you put before the words "Using Dye" is true, but that's not even my biggest problem with this. It's clear, even though people won't admit it, that this team is rebuilding. However, to trade Dye for a reclamation project (one whose stuff has betrayed him) is a bad move both in a baseball sense and in the sense that it says to me, this is more that rebuilding, it's "let's go get them in 2010/quasi firesale" mode. I mean this isn't a firesale, but to dump 37 million dollars and get nothing in return to help you anytime soon (and no, Bailey won't help) screams "white flag". Not to mention that we could have got more for Dye than Bailey. No question. I think it makes sense in some respects. Sure, I would like to see more established, younger talent coming back if this deal goes through, but trading Dye now falls in the school of thought of "rather trade him a year too early than a year too late." It makes a lot of sense to trade Dye. Awful range factor, but still could sell him on the fact that he has been one of the most consistent hitters the past 4 years or so. But with that being said, I'm not sure what the market for Dye is considering his contract and the relatively cheap/younger corner outfielders still in the free agent market. Also, a quick bone to pick with people saying "This team has dumped 37 million dollars, if they don't spend any I'm not going to game next year.", please stop. You sound like those retarded cub fans who said they wouldn't pay as much attention in 2009. Everybody knows you'll pay attention/watch/post/attend a game once they start winning.
  8. Overall great work, but I have a few bones to pick: "2003: Aaron Miles for Juan Uribe- Push" IMO, this one goes the white sox way by a long shot. Like it or not, Uribe was a a decent contributor to that world championship team, and also filled in quite nicely at 3rd last year. Miles is no more than a utility infielder. 2005: Aaron Rowand, Daniel Haigwood and Gio Gonzalez for Jim Thome- Advantage Phi. This made me yell at the computer. How do you justify the phillies won this deal? They sent us back Gonzalez so REALLY the only players that mattered were Rowand and Haigwood. Thome was the only one hitting to start the 2006 season, and still has put up very good numbers considering his age. Rowand booked for San Fran and a ton of cash, and the Phillies didn't win anything significant with him. We still have Thome. Just because Aaron Rowand runs into walls, it doesn't make him better than Jim Thome. 2008: Nick Masset and Danny Richar for Ken Griffey Jr.- Advantage Cin. ( Right now) I would split this one. Richar is a 5th infielder and Masset is a "meh" middle relief/long relief guy. Griffey didn't really put up numbers, but neither are Richar and Masset
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) Who wouldnt? Of course I will take the money saved on Javy and sign a pitcher that can put up similar numbers and still have money to spare to sign other pieces. Meh paying for pitching via free agency sucks. More so, who is out there for 3 years or less who doesn't suck?
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) And Javier Vazquez sucks. in my baseball world, I'll take Vazquez over Clayton Richard
  11. Just to get the other opinion, Flowers IS 22 in A ball. I dunno dudes.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) He's expected to accept arb from LAAAAAA just putting those thoughts to rest ;-)
  13. No thanks on Garland. He's not that good. Average pitcher without a pitch that gets hitters out constantly.
  14. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) Adam Dunn. would like, if Dye is traded and Quentin is moved to right.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) If Lillibredge is the guy they're hoping will turn in to a leadoff hitter (Solid sb %age, at least in the past has shown good OBP numbers although last year was a disaster for him), then I could see KW rolling the dice on Anderson in CF again, if he can force Ozzie to actually play him. But, this also clears cash. I wouldn't mind BA in center, say, if you actually had a legit leadoff hitter or signed a guy like Furcal to play short.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) Maybe KW is loading up on prospects to get Peavy. I was thinking he was dumping salary to sign CC, or ManRam.
  17. So umm...there's this hole in centerfield...
  18. This deal sucks. Quoted from ESPN: "Reyes was 3-11 with a 5.81 ERA last season for the Braves. He started 22 games. Lillibridge appeared in 90 games at Triple-A Richmond in the Braves organization. He hit .220 with four home runs and 39 RBIs." For the record, I was in the "don't trade Vazquez" camp.
  19. Taveras...really? Can I not have the major league equivalent of Jerry Owens
  20. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Strawman. No, you trade Garland for a package of younger players, or a REAL CF. Just don't trade a SP rental for a SS rental when you already had an option there (with similar defense and OPS but cheaper and a better attitude.) It is possible that teams knew Garland really wasn't that good. He took what he could get for Garland, and the deal still made sense. OC works because he was the bridge to get Alexei to short (which should happen IMO).
  21. No because he wants a multi-year deal and a lot of money
  22. Am I the only one who kind of likes this trade? Okay yes, it sucks dumping a guy after giving up prospects to the A's last year (although De Los Santos is really the only guy who could come back and bite them) but lets face it, Swish was a guy without a position on this team who's numbers had fallen off significantly.
  23. Well, to be fair, in some ways they are right. Really though, through the trade market, what team in their right mind would want Konerko/Swisher/Dye and give up a major league ready player that's actually decent? Of vice versa, How are the White Sox going to get major league ready players without any actual prospects to trade?
  24. QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) It doesn't take a baseball expert to see that Richard quite simply does not have the stuff to make it as more then a very mediocre-bad starting pitcher. I like how people fail to notice that once the lineup went around once in that game, the Rays started to actually hit Richard. He's an okay pen guy but that's it.
