QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) Good job, White Sox. I'll resist the temptation to say, "What took you so long?" So much for baseball teams not caring about even trying to sell the nosebleed cheap seats. I remember this past season in some threads people indicated the Sox and all teams would rather draw 20,000 to 25,000 fans on their terms than draw 40,000 with cheaper parking, cheaper ticket prices, etc. If the Sox continue to market this hard and get the word out, many families will probably be putting some dates on the calendar to actually attend some games this season. The Sox have wised up. There's no way in hell attendance would have not declined again next season for the seventh straight year without these cost reductions. I wonder if we'd be seeing this movement had the Sox not choked and actually won the division. My bet is yes. I'm actually surprised the playoff games were going to be sold out like some of you said they would be, considering the Yankees didn't sell out their games. Sox deserve credit; now the key is to make sure all former Sox fans who stopped going to games are aware they can get in the park for affordable, fair prices if they do just a tad bit of planning. Yankees make the playoff every year. I suspect fans there had cost fatigue. The White Sox have never made consecutive postseason appearances. Hell, the closest time span was 3 years(2005 and 2008)! Fan appetite for playoff baseball is higher when you dont go often.

QUOTE (staxx @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 01:53 PM) I suggested this as well. Being a college kid myself, it is extremely hard for me to go to games unless with my family. If prices were lowered, I could easily get a group of 10 friends to go, especially if on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights. My games attended per year would instantly go from 10 to about 20.they ALREADY reduced tix. $7 and $20 options for ALL games.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 12:58 PM) This is a great idea, I think it will work. Now they just need to do $3 dollar beer, $1 hot dog night in the bleachers like they do at Wrigley to cater to the college kids. Theres nothing i hate more than seeing the sox on TV with empty outfield stands. The cubs stopped doing that. Also, $5 tickets AND $3 beers? Do you want something bad to happen?

How much are you willing to offer Josh Hamilton?

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 12:56 PM) lol, thank you captain obvious. the only one really championing hamilton is YOU... this discussion is a 2-3 page topic about cash and how good/bad the OF would be with him, BUT it becomes 10 plus pages about how great a guy he is, despite shooting up all his VERY sizable signing bonus. His fall was so bad it kept the devil rays s***ty even longer than planned. Hamilton may be a great guy, but he has a monkey on his back. and that scares GMs. Not to mention his actual back and knees are starting to feel the pain of years of baseball AND drug abuse. Of course, this great guy, this "family man", once he gets drunk wants to start f***ing every pretty little thing that moves in an arizona bar and asks where he can get cocaine. -

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) False, Josh and his parents got in a car accident but all walked away from it, the lingering effects from it was actually what put him on the DL which led to all his free time. Step one sounds right and there's no problem with that. Step 2, he wasn't the one that blamed Crawford or TBs front office or anyone else, I'm the one saying these things, it's what I took from the book. I believe that, if he walked into a different tattoo parlor where the artists there weren't drug addicts themselves we wouldn't be having this conversation. when you replace drugs with jesus, you are simply trading one addiction for another. look at george bush jr. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) Have they outlined what the "special sections" are? I am curious.talked to my rep. ALL outfield seats are $15 on sunday. and season ticket holders already get that price.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) I think this is excellent idea. I will be attending more Sunday games with my family this season.I suggest you buy the parking early,as I bet that'll get snapped up quick.

WHITE SOX CREATE SPECIAL “FAMILY SUNDAY” FAN EXPERIENCE FOR 2013 Family Sundays to Feature Lower Level Seats as Low as $15, Upper Level as Low as $5 & Parking for $10; Including Kids-Only Autograph Sessions & Running the Bases CHICAGO – “Family Sundays” – a special fan experience at U.S. Cellular Field – will be one of the new Chicago White Sox ballpark experiences for families in 2013. The new promotion, which will cover all 13 Sunday home games, will feature seats in Bleacher, Outfield Reserved, Lower Corner and Premium Upper Box sections for $15, Upper Box and Upper Reserved Seats will be available for $10, and Upper Corner tickets will be priced at only $5. Additionally, parking at U.S. Cellular Field parking lots on Family Sundays will be available for $10. Ticket prices are for fans of all ages. The White Sox ballpark experience for kids on Sundays in 2013 also will feature special autograph sessions with current and former White Sox players, as well as White Sox broadcasters (weather permitting), and the opportunity to run the bases after games. The Family Sunday offer comes as the next step by the White Sox in the club’s response to feedback from its fans. So far this offseason, the Sox have moved aggressively to reduce the cost of attending baseball games in 2013 by lowering or holding prices for more than 87 percent of all full season tickets. “For many years, we have worked hard to create one of the very best family environments in all of baseball,” said Brooks Boyer, White Sox senior vice president of sales and marketing. “As we continue to closely listen to fans regarding the cost of the ballpark experience, the Family Sunday promotion is our next move in creating affordable seating options in both the lower and upper levels of the park. Welcoming fans of all ages on a day that is traditionally dedicated to family time, we hope Family Sundays become a popular way for fans to share a baseball experience together.” Family Sundays activities and tickets offers are a new White Sox initiative for the 2013 season. Similar to promotions from past seasons, such as “Kids Days” and “Value Mondays,” Family Sundays will focus on providing kids and families an affordable and memorable baseball experience.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 11:11 AM) Yep. Traffic wouldn't be a problem worth mentioning if they had a team that made the playoffs more than once since 2006.true. no one complains about hawks traffic on weeknights since they have become playoff regulars.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) well ya it's his fault for doing it but what I was saying is if he was not forced out of his support system with his parents then he wouldn't be spending hours in a tattoo parlor and making friends with these guys. He didn't know what to do with his free time when he was forced away from his parents so he had all this time on his hands that he ended up using in a tattoo parlor that lead him to the addiction. before having all that free time he was a family man, all his friends were family. step one to be drug free(according to josh hamilton): replace drugs/booze with jesus. step two: blame everyone but yourself. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) Why are you ignoring things he can control, like ticket prices and parking, which he has made an effort to fix?i think traffic(or how to get to a game) PLUS prices/parking, make it hard for some to justify going to a game. the lower ticket and parking makes it easier for someone to say "f*** it, we're going to the game" versus "f*** it, i'll watch it at home)

They announced the 14 game plans start as low as $119. That's $8.50 per game. In a plan that included playoff tickets in 2012.

QUOTE (forrestg @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) April is always the worst month for attendance at the cell. One because its colder so people need a reason to come out. Something better than HD tv. so find a a way for fans to make it real. We the fans need a reason to bear the cold april games.$20 lower level tix.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) Does anyone else think these price decreases will only have a minimal effect on attendance next year? I can see them maybe getting up to 26k a game, but nothing more. Knowing Sox fans, I can see them talking the talk about prices, but not walking the walk once they actually drop. No. i see them easily averaging more fans per game. they are finally positioning themselves as a viable alternative to cubs games at wrigley. lower prices, better team, and a facilty that is not falling apart.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) Good point, I didn't look at the grand scheme of things. I guess I just don't see all the people who complained about prices, running out to go to way more Sox games in 2013. the excuses will always be there. but hopefully the sox helped sway some people with $10 parking on sunday

How is Marlins trade different from what the cubs are doing?
ewokpelts replied to 59th street's topic in The Diamond Club
I hate to defend the cubs, but they are rebuilding as management changed hands. Most of the bad paper the cubs hold were John McDonough (under orders from the Tribune) opening the checkbook for Hendry. Flash forward 5 years, and you have a different owner, different team president, different GM, different manager. Most of the Marlins senior leadership that participated in the 2006 dumping is the same as 2012. Now, what the tribsters did is the same as loria, but they were trying to sell the team to a sucker(they succeeded). -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Wrong. With revenue sharing, they were one of the most profitable teams in baseball. I read one article that said they would have made $20 million if they locked their gates and didn't let anyone in. I didnt say they weren't making money at all, but they were not making it off their stadium. They were literally a tennant to the Dolphins, who made the lion's share of profits off parking, suites, and concessions. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 09:12 AM) The Sox are loaded with lefties. Buehrle is about the last player in MLB you would want to add to the White Sox. He has a back loaded contract, and out of the Sox top 6 starting pitchers, 4 are already left-handed. With the payroll limitations, a lefty starter with a big contract is about the worst thing they could acquire, even if it is Mark Buehrle. i know. i ALREADY said that the sox would be too lefy heavy. -

I'm gunna throw out a crazy trade idea, and it'll prolly not happen. Floyd for Buehrle. Of course it won't happen because why would the Sox want 3 lefties in the rotation. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 07:29 AM) Yeah I can't see how the Marlins can survive in Miami after this. They're going to to be elsewhere in the near future. That organization is a joke. That being said, I'd love if Hahn got on the phone with them and inquired about Ricky Nolasco and Logan Morrison Also, if Toronto was willing to swallow some of MB's salary, I'd take him back here in an instant. they aint going anywhere with a brand new stadium. I suspect Loria's prepping a sale. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 05:27 AM) They drew over 2 million for a last place team, and Loria, who was making money hand over fist before taxpayers bought him a new stadium, made even more. Now I would guess, they will be lucky to draw half of that, and I really doubt they can move for a very long time. They have to have a long term lease. He is probably going to sell which is better for everyone. He only paid Buehrle $6 million, Reyes $10 million. This was probably the thought all along.the marlins were not making a lot of money in Joe Robbe Stadium. The bulk of the Marlins game revenue went towards the Dolphins. They made almost nothing in the 03 WS run. Going to the new stadium, they keep virtually all revenues from parking, concessions, and suites. So even though they have a s*** lineup, they are making a ton of profit NOW. -

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) I'm gonna have to disagree here. The Blue Jays have the best farm system in the league and the Marlins are getting their #2, #5, and #7 prospect in the deal to go along with Yunel Escobar who's a real good SS who's not yet paid the big bucks. Henderson Alvarez also has some potential moving out of the AL East yeah, but the marlins were dumping a TON of money.....movin one or two high dollar guys will NOT get a decent haul. -
First big move of the offseason prediction contest
ewokpelts replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
aren't we on the 3rd or 4th big move already? Hahn becoming GM, followed by Peavy's deal. Not to mention KWJR getting traded.
