How much are you willing to offer Josh Hamilton?
ewokpelts replied to South Paw's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 09:26 AM) If the Sox feel he is going to regress again, and would rather spread that money out, I would totally support that move. It would almost kill this team next year if Rios hits like 2011 again with his salary. But there has been NO indication that the Sox feel that way. If anything, with re-signing Peavy, they are committed to guys like Rios to provide the offense for 2013. -

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 02:28 AM) There seems to be a trend of thought here on SoxTalk that he is 'every other year' player.No. Just ONE person is advocating we trade him to make room for a guy that may or may not want to play with the sox. Everyone else is simply discussing if Rios could be moved for anything of value, but all agreeing that no value would be had if we simply dumped his salary. -

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) Any team in on Josh Hamilton would be in on Rios more than likely. Everyone seems to believe Gavin will be traded so he has to have some value, and I'm sure there are teams out there that need a LH set up guy. All they need is a 3B out of those 3 guys, i dont care is they get little to nothing else. For the next 2 years having a middle of a lineup that includes Hamilton, PK, and Dunn, makes the White sox title contenders then why SIGN Hamilton to a deal that will kill the team for 4-5 years when you can just KEEP Rios? -
Too bad Ozzie got s***-canned after one year. It appears he and loria were made for each other. i mean what other team would make THIS available for sale? http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12988384

QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 12:40 PM) Dude is going to make a lot of cash batting sandwiched between all-starssounds like he'll play cheap so that he can "win". this is one guy i hope never makes the WS, let alone wins one. -

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 02:11 PM) Thats where the 3 way deal Hahn has talked about comes in. Trade Rios to a team willing to take on his contract, get some good prospects and flip them to a 3rd team with 1 or 2 more of our guys for a young cheap 3B. or just not sign hamilton. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 07:41 AM) Knowing his whole story is part of the due diligence with a guy like Hamilton. If you know his story you know he has a hard-core drug history so there is an expectation that his body should breakdown quicker than most. He is a guy that hurts himself in the name of competition. He is turning 32 next year meaning he is in the stage of his career where natural decline is going to start to happen anyway. His value diminishes if he moves from CF to a corner OF position. He literally could relapse at any time, and moving into a new market, with totally new (or maybe even absent) control systems could lead to a failure of his ability to stay away from drugs and/or alcohol. He could also fall into relapse based on the pressures of a new mega-contract in a new location. Those things aren't about respect, or knowing the guy. Its about the reality of his history and his situation... All things that matter to which ever team shells out a ton of money for him. Hell, the Rangers have been super supportive of him, and he still averages a bender a year (AND there's photos!). He's going to get that fat contract. It wont be in Chicago. And he'll eventually settle into a nice career as a motivational speaker or even run a church when he stops playing baseball. BUT, he's not worth the money his agent is asking for. -

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 05:11 PM) Terrible post. I really recommend his book to all of you, it's a great read. I believe he's changed his life around for good. A. It's a JOKE. And B. I already said why he's not worth it. -

I imagine he'd ask for MORE to play here, as he'll need all the money he can get to score crack. It IS the south side, after all...... That said, not worth it. Injury prone and didnt we learn our lessons with peavy/rios/dunn? -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) Dead people would have been better than some of the players that were thrown out there from 2006-2009. Too bad the manager in those years felt he needed a hitter in that spot instead of a guy that could play the position. Especially in 2006, when all but 2 everyday hitters were hitting .275 or higher(with at least 4 over .300) a good chunk of the season. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 02:50 PM) Cool article about how close the Sox were to being in the South Loop, not once, but twice. http://www.southsidesox.com/2012/11/9/3619970/south-loop-sox the article has a major problem: Daley I was never interested in the Roosevelt Rd project. He always had his sights on Northerly Island(which eventually became Meigs Field). But that was ONLY if the Sox left his native Bridgeport/Armour Square neighborhood. Also of note, Daley I also began construction of the Dan Ryan as well as the CTA line we now know as the southern portion of the Red Line. In a way, he was handcuffing the Sox to that site, as we found out in the 80's when Thompson and the state forced jerry and co. to stay put. ALSO, last I checked, Clark and Roosevelt is not one of the hottest neighborhoods in town. It only has a Target. LITERALLY. -

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) Dumb question...but I just don't feel like emailing a ticket rep only to be slammed with emails for the rest of my life. I have never purchased season tickets (finally have the disposable income) but how do the prices work? For example, if I choose an upper box plan at $378, that's the only cost, correct? No PCL like stuff, correct? Basically. Sth plans are without fees. And the sox do not sell PSLs with aeason ticket sales. If you're looking to buy a package, let me know. I'll connect you with my rep. Otherwise they may stick you with an intern.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) I have read through a couple dozen versions of this story, and I can't find one that talks about his pay next year at all. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...lb&c_id=mlb -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) Brooks Boyer mentioned in the blogger call that the Red Line closure was indeed a factor in their decision. But I got the impression it wasn't the primary factor. The red line really isnt closing. It's just moving 2 blocks east. But the Sox have responded by lowering parking costs. The ticket reductions sound like market correction.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) I know much hubbub has been made about lack of attendance for this team, but I would imagine in just about any other city, a team that sat in first for 120+ games in a year where "Appreciate the Game" was the marketing campaign, prices would stay put or even increase. I wonder how much the Red Line closure contributed to the price reductions. Prices were out of whack for a few years now, and when you factor in the drama associated with the previous manager, as well as the previous general manager, AND the performance of the team , it adds up. Tigers, btw, went to the WS this year and ALCS last year, and had outfield tickets in the $20-ish range. Sox? Bleachers seats were $34 for a tuesday night game.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) It doesn't matter to me now since I don't live enough to get season tix, but if I did live close enough that's what I'd want. Wouldn't surprise me if they tried to accommodate clients who just want 27 games. May not be a bad idea to ask....

also, 2013 split plan game dates: http://mlb.mlb.com/cws/ticketing/ticket_pl...p?loc=splitplan each plan only has one cubs/sox game. weekday plan also has OD.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) Right, but is there a reason? Probably a BS reason, as they are not sold out in the club level.
-
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) Do the Club Level and Premium Box seats get filled with full season plans, or is there some other reason those seats are not available on 27 game plans?Sox do not sell 27 game plans up there. Not since 04 or 05.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) One can now buy a season ticket seat for $810, for the full season. $10 a game. And that includes the front rows of that section. That's pretty incredible. Down about 18% in our section. Very nice. The 27 game plan is also a deal, at $11 per game.
-
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/ticket....jsp?loc=prices As stated before, this is an aggressive move to bring back fans. They even posted the savings per seat.

QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Nov 5, 2012 -> 06:34 PM) I always thought it would be cool if you could use your ticket to enter a raffle for memorabilia or future tickets. Each game you go to enters you into a raffle where some memorabilia and tickets or suites are raffled off. What if you went to a game, used your ticket to enter a raffle with these prizes being raffled off for each game: - 30 Autographed Balls (one by each white sox player and coach there that game) - Cost - $240 ($8/ball) - 5 Autugraphed Bats used in batting practice - Cost - $250 ($50/bat) - 10 4 Packs of tickets to be used for future weekday games - Cost - $0 - 1 Suite for a weekday game (no food/drink) - Cost - $0 I think that would be an incentive for me to go to a game if I was wavering. What do you guys think? actually, the costs of such prizes is even lower, as the teams has players sign a lot of items in ST. but they draw at least 24k without door prizes. why do it when they already lowered prices?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 01:19 PM) From reading Twitter at least, it sounds like Bay will get 100% of what the Mets owe him, PLUS he can sign a contract of ANY value (not the typical league minimum that happens when player is released) and get paid that on top of what the Mets will give him.off season releases work a lot differently than in-season releases. -
My Sox Summer - 50 games for under $500
