  1. QUOTE (retro1983hat @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 01:01 PM) It has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but I think the Sox missed their opportunity when they had the chance to move to Addison. Yes, some of the old-time, die-hard Southsiders would be upset and may be lost as fans. However, the Cell is cut off from the more trendy parts of the city. Yes, the South Loop is improving, but that's several miles north. (Moving there would have been a great option) Anyways, a great majority of the old Southsiders moved their families out to the burbs. Studies have shown a vast majority of the Sox fans live outside the city limits. So by moving to Addison, where 290 and 355 meet, just north of I-88, just south of I-90, and just west of I-294, the Sox could basically own everything from the city limits out. Easy access in and out. Public transportation would have been an issue, though. The Angels embraced being in the OC and they let the Dodgers have LA. Now Anaheim is a major market team. The LOS ANGELES angels of anaheim? Who were SUED by the city of anaheim because they added the LOS ANGELESto thier name? Who also have been rumoured to leave their lease with anaheim early and possibly move into a site in LOS ANGELES proper? Yeah they embrace thier suburban locale.
  2. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) The bleachers were empty because there were no girls dancing there, which just reinforces my point. My Sox dancing latina plan calls for girls dancing on the centerfield concourse and that solves that problem. And there were definitely a couple in the second vid that would be getting it good. They would bring the people and the money to the cell. I dont think we need dancers. And that may HURT the sox attracting families to the park.
  3. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) Even after the renovations the Cell is one of the worst ballparks in the league. I mean, I've been to Jacobs, Comerica, Miller, Kaufmann and Old Busch and by far the Cell is the worst. Its really not close, the food selection is all we have going for us there. Honestly, that's the heart of the problem and while it has gotten slightly better its going to sting our attendance for until its gone (which will be 20 more years).most ballpark experts place the cell close to kaufman in terms of overall enjoyment and experience. both are of similar style and layout.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 08:53 AM) Well it would take a lot to for 115,000 on the list to disappear, but you have to wonder how many of these people have legitimate interest. I'm sure plenty of those are ticket brokers as well, while many may have just signed up for the novelty. There is no deposit required like there is to get on the Bears list. The cubs allow you to sign up multiple times. It's a pr stunt.
  5. i think it happens AFTER the WS, as MLB hates to have non-WS news mix in the WS hype.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) I never knew that before. My inclination is always to buy tickets early, but now I know that I may get better seats by waiting.well, that's a good idea when the sth inventory is low, like 2012. but if ticket sales rise, you will see less "good" spots open the week before a homestand. But knowing they open inventory a week or so before the game is good if you want to hit a popular game. my rep used to offer me last minutes groups for yankee games and even cubs/sox back in 06 and 07 because the holdbacks from sth packages or ozzie plans were being released.
  7. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) The real issue is getting people the motivation to be buying upper deck tickets. When I was younger I didn't mind, but once I was old enough to start making my own money, the UD feels much less enjoyable than the LD (even if I'm front row behind home plate in UD). I say, budget a million dollars for the season to have former, yet recent Sox greats literally just hang out in the UD throughout the game and take pictures/autographs/have a beer with fans etc. Sox can say, "Hey Frank Thomas, we'll give you 12.5k a game to just hang out in the upper deck for 40 games". I would definitely be attracted to that. The other idea I have is probably too expensive, but if they could figure out a way to put a bar in the UD that overlooks the skyline (near where they have the beginning of the exit ramp), that'd be awesome. People love a nice view at a ballgame, but usually you don't see it at the Sox games until everyone's leaving. you can always put a portable beer stand at the top of the ramp. zero cost, maximum profit. hell, people smoke and drink there anyways.
  8. I think kids day should br every sunday, with autographs and kids running the bases. No reason to not have that. And i dont care if the players are in the pennant race, no ducking it on fan appreciation day like they did this year.
  9. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 09:20 AM) Open the park early on Saturday for full Sox BP, make it an event. Encourage guys to sign autographs, toss more balls into the stands, etc. Since it's rare, you could get people to come out. There's zero reason to open the park at 4pm on a Tuesday. You'll have 12 people there. I'd open a few stands behind home plate and the fandeck stand. As most people will be either behind home plate to get autographs or in the outfiel to shag fly balls. I think 2 hours is sufficient as the sox bp is 2 hours before the start of game
  10. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 09:33 AM) Take out the last 2 rows of upper deck seats and build a walkway up there with a few concession stands that would be easier to access from the mid to high seats in the upper deck. It would be a nice walk around too, great view and in no one's way that is sitting down. In a way, like old comiskey with stands at the top of upper deck, though those were behind a wall. And where do you think the state will get 40 million topay for that? Your idea also means removing the roof and re attaching it to new struts.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 06:50 AM) Well, for one thing, you get better seats when you buy season tickets, plus who wants the headache of buying tickets 81 different times? If you use a code within a week of the game, the unsd season ticket allocations open up. So you get comprable seats at 1/2 off(especially a weekday game). And i suspect a lot o sth dont use all games in thier plan, but but sell a few. The issue i heard from people was that they might as well buy only the games they want to hit and noy bother with the hassles of being an sth. I did mention the perks(like grinder bash and gifts) and they said" i can get allthat on ebay"
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) They need to make the park an event itself on game day. Open the place earlier, have tourist-y things to see and do inside pregame.they do that already. bands playing outside, tailgating, ect....
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 06:36 PM) On #1, I think they have enough, they just don't do anything. They wander around in the hallways, or in the entrances to the seats, but never actually look around or do anything they are supposed to. They gather in little pods and talk. I would love to see the team invest in the neighborhood more to enhance the area experience, but I guess that is a different topic. In the park, I think its pretty damn good already. Food prices are too high, same with drinks. Get rid of the stupid Chevy Pride Crew. Mix up the between innings stuff, that gets stale fast. More things involving fans doing things on the field between innings would be more entertaining. Jim Thompson has said ISFA tried to open a hotel or add more amenities, and the Sox have turned that down.
  14. I still disagree with brooks about dynamic pricing, but the $7/20 seats is a start. As for season tickets, teh #1 complaint i heard from sth/former sth was that "why buy 27-81 games from the sox, when stubhub and codes make it cheaper?" even playoff tickets were modestly priced in the secondary market this year.
  15. Seeing as the Sox themselves fixed the ticket price issue, what would people do to make the overall Sox experience better? Two things from me: 1. Ushers in EVERY SECTION - too many stupid s*** happens because people know there's no consequences. 2. Parking lots should open earlier, ESPECIALLY on weekends.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 12:08 PM) Still, you're talking about a team that has 8 home games, not 81. then the indy market is worse than i thought. if you cant sell 8 games without $15 tickets, in an environment where one of the all time great QBs won you a super bowl, then i dont know what to say. but the original argument still holds. the guy talking about the colts $15 tickets used a bad sight line area to compare to sox outfield seats, which are pretty popular. hence their higher cost. apples to oranges.
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) It might be a MLB game is close to the pricing of NFL and NBA. I could see a family holding on to their $ to buy NFL or NBA tickets. The bottom dollar ticket to see the Colts in the RCA dome was $15, while a center field seat for a Sox-Twins game was $25. It could be that baseball is starting to become over priced entertainment. unfair comparison. the $15 colts tickets is in the worst part of the stadium, while the sox outfield seats have virtually no obstructions. An upper reserve ticket for a sox game in 2008(the last year the colts were in the hoosier dome) was $17. oh, and how many of those $15 tickets were there really? for a team with peyton manning that was a perennial playoff team(and recent SB champ)
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 09:09 PM) With construction next year, the Sox needed to do something drastic to get people to come to games. I guess this will help, but we'll have to see.The green line 35th stop will run both green and red lines next year, so the impact of the cta work is not as severe. And Rahm-Bo is hiring as ton of bus drivers to operate the shuttle buses next year
  19. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) I might consider season tix if all this is true. It's legit. I was talking to my rep yesterday, and they said not all prices are set, but they are serious about the overall reductions. One thing to remember that this info was sent to current STH accounts. More info will come as they try to bring in new clients.
  20. looks like you have no excuses now tuna. tix are going down. same as parking.
  21. Soxfest should be at McCormick Place. Brewers and Pirates have thier fests in actual convention centers. Those same convention centers had enough room for the MLB All-Star Fanfests that were in milwaukee(2002) and pitt(2006). AND, the brewers give you FREE game tickets for your $15 brewersfest ticket purchase.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) Priceline will get you ridiculous deals. When it was at the Hyatt, you could get a room on Priceline for less than $60 a night. The sox deal was not much higher, and you got FREE soxfest passes as well as four free tickets to an april game. I think I paid $180 in 2006, and got over $300 in ticket and soxfest pass value.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 07:40 AM) I won't complain too loudly about Soxfest. Profits go to charity, so yeah. they do NOT.
  24. Prices are dropping, and I would LOVE to hear Tuna's excuses now. Especially with $10 sunday parking(if that is indeed not a rumor)
  25. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) It will also depend on what off-season moves are made and what direction they decide to take with the team next year.I think Kenny "officially" moving upstairs will help, as there were plenty of people I spoke with this year that wanted him gone more than Guillen. I think fans will see a "change" in style under Hahn, and my get excited.
