NCAA basketball thread 2017-18
Boogua replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) Illinois is short on big guys. Pun intended. Losing Castleton hurts because it looks like he may have been able to contribute right away. Conditt and Kisunas seem like projects. Illinois will have time to bring in some other bigs. Finke and Black are both only juniors and who knows what will be available on the transfer market next year. -

I'm pretty confused why people think the assistant directing Evans towards an agent would have anything to do with Underwood. The other stuff was at South Carolina, which was under Frank Martin. It's possible Underwood is connected, but I'm not worried. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) One of Underwood's old assistants surrendered today. So glad that he decided to stay at Ok st. Looks like a bullet was dodged there. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) They got the NBA's leading scorer. As much as you want to undersell Thomas, he is Derrick Rose in his prime. Name the price and I will bet that he plays less than 60 games and is not top 10 in scoring next year. As much as you want to oversell Thomas, it's likely he is Derrick Rose after the knee injuries. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) Just imagine if it turned out IT was coming off of a torn ACL! That hip issue sounds much worse than a torn acl. Not to mention the guy is 5'9 and relies primarily on quickness and is already a terrible defender. -

So have people not really been paying attention to this whole IT hip thing? Certainly doesn't seem like it. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 9, 2017 -> 11:14 PM) Incredibly impressive. Can't believe the defense is that good despite all the inexperience. Lovie is definitely building something. I started having doubts, especially after last week, but now I think the Illini are actually going to be very good in the next year or two. Besides Crouch... He sucks.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) I don't think Mayweather will knock him out, but I think he'll win by TKO. Similar to the Hatton and Gatti fights, except Mayweather is older and this guy is exponentially worse than them. Haha, oh wow. Completely forgot I posted earlier in this thread... At least I can show that I put my money where my mouth is I guess.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 10:45 PM) IMO, your post describes a complete ass kicking, just like the assessment you claim to disagree with. Mayweather dictated the fight exactly how he wanted it to go and never once was in danger. McGregor seemed to do better than people thought, but that's only because Floyd let him. +1. I think Floyd wanted to add some drama to the fight and he did. He realized pretty early on McGregor couldn't hurt him. If a guy tries to make a huge bet on himself to win under 9.5 rounds (he got denied but got some in on it I saw) and ends the fight in under 9.5 rounds, I think we can say he did what he wanted and dictated the fight.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) Congrats to our betters on the last page. Even though Mayweather was a near lock, that still takes some temerity to put the big dollars down. Some dope who's never watched MMA/Boxing bet me $50 straight up and he wanted McGregor. I felt bad at first but then he started talking smack so I am like yeah let's lock it in. Paid for my tab on Saturday. Congrats to you too. Crazy that you got great value like that, even it was just for $50. I am, and we should all be, hoping that McGregor takes one more boxing match. He is overvalued right now by a ton because he won a few rounds, got destroyed, and lasted

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 26, 2017 -> 09:55 PM) Bovada and Vegas started last night at -450. Vegas went up to -700, bovada went down to -350. Extremely strange. Vegas knows though. Bovada is a crazy square book usually. I'd bet the majority of their clientele bet on McGregor + money. I put 8k on Mayweather -500 and 2k on Mayweather by KO/DQ. By far the biggest bets of my life, but this seems like a crazy value opportunity. Hopefully I don't regret it, but if it loses it won't be the end of the world.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) Kyrie is better but I completely disagree that he's way better. I don't think this trade makes Cleveland better this year but it doesn't make Boston better than them either. Cleveland is still going to win the east(unless LeBron dies) and they're going to have a top 3 pick. Meanwhile, Boston will still finish 2nd in the east and lost a top 3 pick. I really wouldn't be surprised if neither of those things happen. -

QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) I would argue Cleveland is better after this trade Maybe in the regular season.. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 07:02 AM) I honestly don't care that he said that. Trubisky would have been what, six or seven when MJ retired? He grew up in Ohio watching the greatest player of his generation, it totally makes sense he would pick Lebron Yup. This shouldn't matter to anyone really. It does make me question his intelligence in that he went to UNC and now plays in Chicago and didn't know that he should just probably lie there if he believed that.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Did the Clippers get a better deal for Paul then the Bulls did for Butler? No. And I didn't like the Butler deal at all. The Bulls at least got what they considered as upside. Very little upside acquired by the Clippers. -

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 07:09 PM) Don't forget they traded 2 firsts to get McDermott. If they take Markkanen, I will personally disembowel GarPax. Lauri Markkanen is Finnish for Andrea Bargnani. Sounds like that's why they're taking. Awful. The guy sounds like Channing Frye. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) I could understand the Lakers going Jackson instead of Lonzo but taking him over Fultz would be a huge mistake. I don't see the C's making that mistake. They're not. The Celtics have been fawning over Fultz all year according to the vertical podcast. He was the consensus number 1 before they even got the pick. He's going #1 barring something crazy happening. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Ya I legit don't know if he'll knock him out just cause Floyd is Floyd but I'd be shocked if it wasn't complete domination. I was just saying you won't make any money cause the line is so absurd. Line within 12 is -125 when I saw yesterday. Most people think it goes distance, which is completely reasonable.

I'm taking out a second mortgage to bet Mayweather to win within 12 rounds.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) Lot of rumors that Jackson of Kansas may be there choice instead of Fultz. If so, George would't happen but Hayward might. My guess is chatter to see if someone offers to move up. I'd bet a lot on them taking Fultz. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) George likely wouldn't stay in Boston though. It would be hard for him to leave that team, with those players and an awesome coach, to go to LA. That's why it would be a gamble for Boston. They're oozing assets. Time to make a play.
