Confirmed that walker is staying at Illinois. Big. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) They said adios to Michael not because he killed Kwami Brown. A lot of people apparently killed him. They got rid of him because they got him to play, make the team some money and didn't want to give him back his piece at the same price. Michael got played in DC. If McGrady could play, and he could, he would have been fine with Michael, although his first season he struggled a bit, and Michael would have been gone. But it retrospect, the Bulls got another title, and that would have been the max if the had made the trade, and if they made the trade, they might not have won #6. I saw McGrady on ESPN a few weeks ago and he was talking about that near trade. He said at the time potentially being traded for Scottie Pippen freaked him out. So it probably wouldn't have been MJ that killed him if he didn't become a player. This. The owner completely screwed him. I also read that Kwame didn't even want to go pro (he wanted to play at Florida), but he basically had to because of his family. He was a kid that shouldn't have been in the league. There have been many, many high school flameouts. It's much more likely that he was never going to be successful than it is that Mike ruined him. Put guys like KG, Lebron, Kobe, and TMac with Mike and I think they are just as good and in some cases even better.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) They're an elite offensive team. Eventually their lack of defense will probably catch up to them but so far so good. The lack of rebounding too. They've given up a ton of offensive rebounds in the first two tourney games.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 18, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) Great hire from Illinois. First order of business is to keep Walker, then keep these recruits. Walker is staying. Already talked to Underwood apparently. Huge. Should keep the whole class and wouldn't be surprised if they add Smith. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 18, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Initial reaction by national writers is positive, calling it a steal. That's good. I didn't even know who he was. If you look at his coaching record it pretty much speaks for itself. Took a team that averaged 65 ppg over the past two years to 85 ppg and #1 in Ken pom offense. Also read that he Knows Walker and will try to keep him. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 10:27 PM) Bennett is the big talk, Marshall/Archie are talked about as well but not as much. Sean Miller's name was dropped, but even the insiders think that is a LONGGGGGGG shot. Saw this a bit ago on the insider board and just thought it was a slip by him and that he meant Archie. Wasn't the case. No way that happens I think, but it sounds like any guy the Illini get at this point is going to be exciting. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) #illini source says Finebaum report on $18 million offer of Cuonzo Martin is untrue. From Werner. Guess we will never know. Martin hasn't even really been talked about on the insider board lately. Something would have leaked sooner if the Illini were actually pursuing him like that. Not hours after he took a job from a geographical rival. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Coaches wouldn't leave Butler and VCU for Illinois, that is pretty much my point, though I am pretty sure there were more than that who weren't even interested publicly. EDIT: Pretty sure Martin was connected at one point and flat out said no. Different AD this time around... -

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) It's official: Illinois has fired John Groce Marshall is at the top of the list apparently. Please happen... -
QUOTE (gatnom @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) Word on the street is that assistant coach Jamall Walker has the keys to Tilmon. So, if the new coach retains him, it's possible that Illinois could hold on to Tilmon. Hard to say what a guy like Frazier would do. When people pressed Frazier after the "please don't fire Groce" he said he was committed to the school first, so who knows. Either way, the emergence of Tejon lessens the hurt a bit.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Didn't Groce just have his best recruiting class? If he is launched are they firmly committed? I would expect most of them to stay on unless the new hire is awful.
-
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Probably true but you would sign Glennon if you have the mindset of wanting to win next year + develop definite QB of future. Plus the possibility that Glennon may actually be the QB of the future which is a complete long shot, I know, but then you would have QB u took with the 3rd pick as an asset to trade at that point. I dont believe that any part of this situation is good btw. Its all just hoping at this point. Almost nobody is giving any of the quarterbacks in this class a top 5 grade. The Bears should not reach there.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 08:19 AM) If some team like the Bears signed Glennon as stop gap starter for a year or two. Around 6-7 million a year. It would be a good deal. Some team signing him for 15-16 million a year on a long term deal should fire their GM. The bucs are offering more than 6-7 per year for him to be a backup. He's going to get at least 12 I think.
-
Any outside chance that Garrett could fall to the Bears are now gone I think. Dear God did he destroy the combine. That being said, I wonder if the Bears look at someone like Solomon Thomas over Jonathan Allen. Allen didn't have a good combine and has arthritis in both shoulders apparently. Thomas had a really good combine and looked dominant at points this year (especially against unc in the bowl game)

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) I saw Sturdy had a twitter exchange with another Illini guy on Twitter a few days ago, who said Groce is gone no matter what according to his source. At this point I would probably be fine with either decision. Whitman seems to like Groce though and I don't think he'd fire him "no matter what" unless he had a big hire lined up (ala Lovie). -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 10:58 PM) I highly doubt that win got him another year. He shouldn't even be back even if theyou somehow got into the tournament. Sturdy hinted that Groce would likely be retained if he won last night and didn't even make the tournament. If he makes the tournament, with the current recruiting class, I would guess he has one more year. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) Not a fan of the team format with each team going to every other elimination. The challenges really don't mean anything How crazy is the male elimination going to be for the championship males? All four of those dudes are pretty formidable
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) The most annoying part is if he trades Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall and doesn't let those guys win the Bulls some extra games in 2002-2003 you are looking at maybe getting LeBron, Bosh , Anthony or Wade in the 2003 draft instead of f***ing Kirk Hinrich. The funny thing is that they could have moved up to get Wade, but decided against it because they didn't want to part with Marshall in the deal. Just brutal.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) One of Ball/Fultz/Smith and possibly DeAndre Ayton in '18? Yeah, you would need some lottery luck but I'd take that chance all day, everyday. Not to mention the Bulls would likely have another top 7ish pick of their own next year on top of it. ^ beat me to it
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) Let me make something clear...if Butler goes to the Celtics...he immediately becomes there best player. Immediately. Isiah has had an amazing season and is a ridiculous score but Jimmy is better and makes them a far more legitimate team. If I were Boston, I'd have added Jimmy & Cousins and to be honest...they could have done that with the assets they have. They will go nowhere with Isiah as their best player. Yes, because he is a plus plus defender while Thomas is awful on defense. Thomas is averaging 30 per game on like a 63% TS%. That's insane.
-
I think most people would agree that Butler is better than George at this point, but Butler is a ball stopping ISO player, which doesn't fit great with Thomas being a superstar this year. There could also potentially be ego issues where Butler goes there and has problems playing alongside Thomas like he did with Rose (although rose was garbage the past few years). The contract stuff is a very valid point and should make Butler a lot more pricey than George. You can argue that you just run 1/3 pick and rolls all the time or have them take turns going ISO like Irving and Lebron did in the finals last year I guess.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) Who would Boston prefer to acquire if they had their choice of Butler or George? I don't really know who'd fit their team better. I think it would be George just based on the fact that Thomas needs the ball in his hands and George is a much better three point shooter than Butler.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Sounds like the following is a very real possibility: Indy gets: Okafor/Jaylen brown/ BKN 17/Zeller Philly gets: Avery Bradley Boston gets: PG13/seraphin That deal is so much better for Boston than the Butler ones being floated around. Wow. E: Nevermind. Didn't look at it closely enough. Any idea if there are protections on the Brooklyn pick?
