QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) They also had a missed field goal and numerous trips to the end zone. Show me a team that has 500 total yards every game and I'd bet you'll see the best scoring offense in the league. The numerous trips to the red zone that resulted in field goal attempts is the problem...

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) They had 500 yards of offense They also scored 23 points against a team that was giving up over 31 a game and was coming off a London trip. To think the offense and hoyer played well is an extremely shallow way of looking at the game. They looked fine though and the play calling seemed better though.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) Also Mea Culpa to Dowell Loggains. To be fair, the defenses the first few games were much better than what we have seen the last few.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) Only problem is that Cleveland is worse and still needs a QB. So they will likely have the first shot at the best QB. If the Bears get a top pick I'm really not sure a QB should be the focus. I'm not really sold on Kizer or Watson. Bring in a guy like Garrett to build around and draft a qb later IMO. Look at how Denver and Minnesota are doing thanks to great defense.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) What a perfect, perfect Bears game. Competed, showed some things offensively (even against an atrocious defense), Howard and that WR whose name escapes me continue to show promise, and they lost! Also, that performance by Hoyer all but assures that Cutler has played his last game for the Bears right? Why would they go back to him? Agreed. That's a game they likely win with Cutler. If the Bears are going to actively tank Hoyer needs to start from here on out.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) Marc Trestman fired by the Ravens as OC. Talking what if's with my buddy, what if the Bears had hired Arians instead of Trestman? And drafted Mercilus instead of McClellin? Sigh... Chandler Jones was there too. Although I remember being completely giddy about decastro falling to the Bears because he was such a highly touted guard.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 10:45 PM) Are Illinois fans mad Kansas got a commitment from Markese Jacobs? He's supposed to be the next Sherron Collins. No, not yet. -

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 24, 2016 -> 10:19 PM) WI looks legit. Defense is tough. Held LSU and Michigan St to a combined 13 points. That's impressive. Both of those teams are pretty bad at offense though. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 24, 2016 -> 05:21 PM) Kris Wilkes sets up an official visit to Illinois for September 8-10. One of 3 teams to get an official visit so far. It also sounds like all the other commits will be on campus that weekend. I guess they're putting a full court press on. I doubt they get him, but could get interesting.

QUOTE (gatnom @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) People close to him kept telling him not to commit to Illinois and let it play out, and then he just stops talking to the staff a few weeks before he commits elsewhere? Doesn't seem like a situation they had much of a shot at to me. The fact that people close to him had to continuously convince him to not commit indicates that they had a great shot at him. If everything doesn't play out the way it did at SLU (hiring of Tate as well as other supposed things) he more than likely becomes an Illini.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 12:36 AM) Tilmon concerns now? I don't think so. I guess we'll find out somewhat soon though.
-
QUOTE (gatnom @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) The way Goodwin handled the last few weeks of his recruitment was definitely odd. Just flat out stopped talking to Illinois coaches and then said his recruitment came down to Northwestern and SLU. Ok then. Doesn't seem like a kid Illinois ever had a true shot with. You're definitely misreading the situation, but the point remains that Goodwin went elsewhere, so I guess it's moot.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) I'm butthurt about this one. Yeah, he's going to be a good player, but not much the staff could have done. He also probably wouldn't have started until year 2 or 3 in the program.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) Ford does have a pretty good reputation as a recruiter and brought his top recruiter with him from OSU. Yeah, but SLU was still not much of a threat until they hired Goodwin's AAU coach and some other shady things supposedly happened. It is what it is though.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 06:24 PM) That would be awful. He's way too good for SLU Yup. Definitely some weird factors in play. I guess it's to be expected in college recruiting though. He's going to be very good there.
-
Looks like Illinois is going to lose out on Goodwin to SLU. Damn. At least the wing is probably the position the Illini have the most depth in.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 12:47 PM) Yeah, that's a losing proposition. Though zone principles would help a little. At the end of the day, Shaq had no game outside of 5 feet and was a really bad ft shooter. So his ppg wouldn't look any different than it was during his time. Hakeem? Now that's a different story. He'd likely be better than he was during his time if he played today. I don't think either of their stats would be that much better, but he would completely collapse defenses now. I think Hakeem would be so valuable due to his a ability to switch and be a rim protector. Him and the Admiral are suited for today.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) He'd be the Shaq you saw during his time except he'd be forced to actually take care of his body and not use half the season to get in shape as he did most of his Laker years. Bigs have much more defensive responsibility than previous eras. Orlando Shaq wasn't peak Shaq, but he could run the floor with the best of them at that point. Imagine Draymond trying to guard him..
-
I wonder what someone like Shaq would do today. I wish big men would develop in college for a few years. Very off topic, but I'm watching that Magic 30 for 30. Apologies.... I feel like greg

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) I'm not impressed by John at all, he was a decent option if we couldn't land Tilmon but I don't see the fit now. A redshirt candidate would be fine with the last scholly but I don't think John wants that. I'm still high on Lewis but if Goodwin does commit to us I again don't see the fit. Get Goodwin and Frazier and call it a day. I think that is the expectation at this point and it might very well be the best recruiting class at Illinois since the Self era.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) I would say Celtics 2, they were basically 3rd last year and added Horford. Not a great team, but solid and have room to grow with 2 more Nets picks and cap space (haven't seen new #'s, but they basically have Al and Raptors 3 by default. Don't see a big reason they should slide, but they're also too flawed to get better. The rest is a clusterf*** down to the Nets/Sixers tier (and maybe Orlando, not really sure what their plan is). I think the Celtics will finish second also. I also think they're going to go hard after a Westbrook trade. They have a ton of assets.
