The Bulls biggest problem: John Paxson and Gar Forman
Boogua replied to ozzfest's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) Honestly, and this is kinda sad in a sense, I think '13 might well be the last title LeBron ever sees. The west is just too f***ing ridiculous. This year's Thunder would be the massive favorite any year from I'd say 2005 to 2012 or 2013. This year, they're a distant third despite the absolute fact they have two of the top 5 players in the game. The Warriors and Spurs aren't going anyway anytime soon. The Cavs f***ed up when they failed on all those high picks (sans Irving). Waiters? Thompson? Bennett? Three fails. And that's not just hindsight. Many thought they reached, especially with Bennett, with those picks. It's hard seeing this year's Thunder as favorites over teams like the 07 Spurs, the big 3 celtics, and the big 3 Heat teams. The last two were especially super hyped after they were initially put together. I do agree that 13 is likely Lebron's last title, unless he leaves Cleveland at some point to ring chase. -
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) Yeah all of those were from vintage Gasol. He's just a turnover machine now. You might want to check some of those turnover numbers.
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) You have a link? If you google "Pau Gasol passing" you'll find pretty quickly that he is a very good passer and a highly regarded one.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) I actually don't disagree with any of this. The problem is that the Class of '17 is hugely important for the future of the program. Assuming Thorne and Tracy get 6th years, you are replacing 6 scholarships in the '17 class. I think Thorne is going to be back pretty soon

QUOTE (gatnom @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) You don't think the inside presence from Thorne, rebounding from black, and lack of being Jaylon Tate from Abrams makes this a tournament team? In a down year for the B1G? We hung with Iowa state for the one half we had Thorne, and we lost by one @Providence. They were a blown layup and tip dunk away from winning that providence game too. And they still weren't healthy. I understand doubting Groce, but that team would be too talented not to make it if they were fully healthy.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:17 PM) And Hill is a pretty darn good player. For sure, but replace him with any guy in the country and it's hard seeing a much different outcome than what's happening.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) If you would have told me we would have all these four star guys and still be this bad, I would have said you were crazy. The Illinois basketball brand is holding on to relevance for dear life. The only four star guy that suited up today that wasn't a freshman was Malcolm Hill. I guess you're expecting quite a bit from JCL, DJW, and Jordan in their second Big ten road game against a top 10 team in the country. This is unacceptable, but let's not paint a different picture than it is.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:53 PM) Please fire Groce at half-time. He should probably just quit. I don't enjoy his coaching, but he has been insanely unlucky here. He should try to resurrect his career elsewhere. At least he would leave the program better than he inherited it.
-
Alex Austin hasn't been able to stay in front of anyone all game and Groce brings him in there to play defense late. Makes sense.
-
So how about that Warriors game sans Steph? Kind of trying to figure out when J4L gives Steph GOAT status.
-
Jimmy just shook PG13 so bad. Nice move to tie the game

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) It drives me nuts during stretches like that. As soon as the other team goes on a run like that you need to find your best players. That stretch completely changed the complexion of the game. Mizzou had essentially given up.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) This team goes way too long at times without Nunn or Hill getting shots or being involved in the offense. That is a sign of bad coaching. Gotta get Maverick and Khalid those touches...
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 06:41 PM) Holy s*** Kendrick Nunn The roster looks so damn promising next year with him and Hill being seniors. Until half the team gets hurt again, of course.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) IMO the best sign he might waive that is that it took him what, 2 weeks of the season to complain about not getting the ball enough? He's playing for his last contract in the season right before the cap explodes. If someone wants to get him the ball more, he'll go. Possibly, although I think he originally took less money to play with the Bulls because he wanted to play for a contender. I believe he pushed for the no-trade clause because he didn't want to get traded to a non-contender. You could be right, but I'm not sure how much money means to him at this point in his career.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) How exactly is PER measured? Sorry for the noob question. I'm much more knowledgable in baseball to be honest, but I do enjoy basketball too. There's a Wikipedia page dedicated to PER that explains it much better than I can. Even looking at those percentages you can see the difference though. Then if you go deeper and look at even more advanced stats, there's really nothing that points Butlers way. Butler is a very good player. All star level. Leonard would probably finish second in MVP voting right now though. Just different levels.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) PPG / APG / RPG / PER / FG% / 3PT% / FT% Butler - 21.5 / 3.3 / 5.0 / 20.83 /.450 /.326 /.823 Leonard - 21.1 / 2.7 / 7.4 / 27.53 /.510 /.472 /.879 Leonard might be slightly better, but I don't think it's as outrageous of a difference between them as you guys are saying. The efficiency difference is just insane. Also, as good as Butler is defensively Leonard is still easily better. Look at what he did to Paul George last night.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) Actually yes, I think he could be. Can you give me an idea of what that starting 5 might look like? You can pick anyone from the NBA too. The best I can come up with is replacing Carroll with Butler on the Hawks last year (would give them 5 all stars) and I still don't see them winning a championship.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 02:45 PM) By the way, I think the piece that will change in this puzzle will be Pau. That said, not sure how Noah's injury impacts those plans. Pau seems like the likeliest guy to be traded. However, it doesn't make a ton of sense to trade one of your best offensive weapons on a team that is terrible on offense. The main issue for the offensive woes has to be Rose. I mean, the guy has an O-Rating of 87. Just insanely atrocious. Pair that with Snell (an O-Rating of 89) and you just get a terrible offense.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) What do you mean by this? Do you think Jimmy Butler could be the best player on a championship team? Hard to imagine.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:52 AM) It's amazing with all of the top picks the 76ers have had, you look at that team and say "wait who did they draft?". Having them play without NBA players is killing the development. Noel will probably be a really good piece on a championship team (talking bench). Their franchise could possibly turn around pretty quickly if they get Simmons this draft. I think it would be kind of funny if they got #4 and Skal was the BPA thoug.
-
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 07:51 AM) Does anyone care about Conference Champions banners? Lebron fans do. That's about it though.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 08:53 AM) JVG said it, at Noahs suggestion. The best was JVG trolling GarPax by saying they should consider bringing in Thibs for another 2 mil per year to be the "offensive coordinator" of the Bulls because they were so much more efficient under him.
-
Sounds like Thorne might need surgery and will be out for the year. How snake bitten is this program?
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 11:48 AM) Illinois extended cubit. LOL 2YEARS How does this make any sense with no AD in place? Wouldn't the new AD want to make a decision like that. Dear God...
