  1. QUOTE (gatnom @ Feb 22, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) For as much as I want this Illinois team to make the tournament, I think it might just be better not to have to watch this year's team any longer than necessary. They have looked worse since Rice came back. Tate being sick tonight certainly hasn't helped matters.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 22, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) Michigan inexplicably takes down OSU in Ann Arbor. And Iowa up 30 over Nebraska, ON THE ROAD. I don't think ANY team has been that dominant in Lincoln all season. So beat UNC in Chapel Hill, OSU twice, have MI down 20+ points in Ann Arbor and pin one of their worst home losses under Beilein, wipe out Maryland by double digits and ahead by 20+ in the first half...but lose at home to MINN and at Northwestern to ruin all positive momentum. What an inconsistent team. They'll probably lose to Illinois at home, win at PSU, lose at IND and beat NW by 30+ at home and then lose in the 2nd round of the B10 tourney and be firmly on the bubble. In many ways, that Illinois at Iowa game next week becomes another play-in game for the Illini, like tonight's game against MSU. Only two of Illinois, Purdue and Iowa will make it imo. Although OSU now is 8-6 too with that inexplicable loss to MI. Parity. If Illinois wins 3 out of their last 5 they will be pretty safely in, so if they win tonight the Iowa game isn't all that important. If Illinois loses tonight, the play in game for Illinois will likely be @ Purdue the last game of the season.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 1h1 hour ago The Chicago Bulls are a VERY significant contender for Kendrick Perkins too, league sources tell Yahoo Sports. Yup, the bulls definitely need more front court players. Especially ones like kendrick Perkins... I don't understand.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) Andre Miller to Sacramento for Ramon Sessions (to Washington) Wow, Zach Lowe and Simmons were recently talking about how Andre Miller looked done, but Lowe said the Karl loved Miller and wouldn't be surprised if he told Kings management to get him. Pretty cool that it ended up happening
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) The main issue I have is that the Bulls spacing was horrendous. You had a player who was dominant at driving in congested spaces being forced to do that the whole game, and he did. Deng was decent from 3, and Korver was great but mostly 2nd unit then. You had a bunch of players who all required being close to the hoop. Give him the Dunleavy Bulls and 2010-2011 would have at least 5% better FG shooting. This. Serge Ibaka is shooting better from 3 than any of the 2010-2011 bulls starters did. Crazy.
  6. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 15, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) I'm not one to pick on Barkley. People just like pointing out the "no ring" thing and clearly it's entirely the star player's fault at all times. Barkley's percentages are sick. The stat-nerds love him. It's also fun to watch a chubby 6'4" guy make insane athletic plays like this... Apologies for crappy formatting, I suck with technology. I've seen that video before. Good stuff. He was an absolute monster.
  7. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 15, 2015 -> 09:12 PM) Meh, he did shoot a fair number of jumpers, but he got inside too. IMO, it wouldn't have been an issue if his best teammate had more juice than Terry Cummings or Sean Elliot. Similar thing with Garnett. Keep in mind Wilt and Barkley are two of the supposed "un-clutch" guys and they didn't rely on jumpers a ton. Barkley had some pretty sick playoffs numbers, but I was just a kid when he was dominating. His career averages in the playoffs were 23 and 13 on a 58.4 TS% though.
  8. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 15, 2015 -> 08:39 PM) Yeah, for whatever reason he had several disappointing playoff runs. He had a couple decent postseasons, but there were wasted on iffy teams twice early in his career and another time they ran into the Jazz. He also missed the postseason in his 3rd year. He had a golden opportunity in 94-95. I always thought guys like KG and Robinson had more trouble in the playoffs because they were big men that weren't true post players. Relying on shooting makes things harder in the playoffs.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 11, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) What's the deal with Murray? I thought he was going to reclassify to 2015? I think it's Oregon, Michigan state, and Illinois in that order right now.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 04:43 PM) Why, was Battier a big heaver or something? Nah, he was generally known as a big advanced stat guy though. Lebron had taken 31 heaves before Battier joined, including 5 the previous year in Miami. He has taken 1 in the last 3+ years.
  11. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) Came across an interesting stat today. Chris Paul, Durant, and Westbrook has 11, 5, and 10 heave shots, respectively, in their career. That's 26 heave shots and 1,712 games between the 3 of them. Kobe has 47 in 1,014 games, and Lebron has 32 in 885 games. Meanwhile Rose already has 28 heave shots in just 330 career games. Just goes to show how much crap Rose gives about his own stats. I always thought it was interesting to see what happened with Lebron's heave statistics once Battier joined Miami. I had no idea that Durant was that low either. It really isn't a huge issue, though.
  12. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 8, 2015 -> 03:15 AM) Just out of curiosity, who do you think is HOF worthy? The Wallaces? Chauncey Billups? I just don't see it... I think Ben definitely makes it. 4 DPOYs is a lot. I also think billups has a solid chance to make it. The nba hall of fame is the easiest to make.
  13. Road games in the big ten. Always fun... Illinois with a million fouls, msu not even in the bonus.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 08:16 PM) What an amazing job by their front office. They've certainly learned from past mistakes. This is the most stacked team LeBron has ever played on. Lebron is very clearly the second best player I've seen in my lifetime. I think talent-wise you're correct, but Bosh and more-so Wade had more of an idea how to win championships and play defense. I would be willing to bet the cavs don't win it all this year mostly because things don't fit for Lebron. He is immensely talented, but he needs quite a bit of scoring talent and defense around him. Imagine if he would have actually went to Golden State...
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 6, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) Serious question from a casual NBA observer. How is Atlanta so good? I look over their roster and it doesn't seem special at all. What am I missing? They're a very good regular season team. Great teamwork and lots of effort. I don't see them doing much in the playoffs though. I can't think of any teams making or winning the finals without a hall of famer on their roster. Maybe the mid 2000s Pistons, but I think a guy or two makes the hall off those teams
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 08:51 AM) Something going on there. They're getting everyone It reminds me of the Ole Miss from a few years back. Three 5 stars so far according to rivals. Just crazy.
  17. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 01:23 AM) I am a Bears fan and Seattle is my favorite non-Bears team right now, and Sherman is my favorite non-Bears player. The celebration after winning the NFC Championship last season and the fake press conference with Baldwin were awesome and hilarious. They also have one of the best unis in the NFL. Love the metallic blue. I hate the Patriots. Brady and Belichick are a couple of smug, entitled, cheating asses. I will take Seattle's cocky confidence 6 days a week and twice on Sundays over the smug asses in Boston. For all of the s*** that Lynch gets for not talking to the media, Belichick invented it. Why wasn't he ever fined? You have to believe you are the best before you can be the best. The history book said that NE won, but Seattle was the better team today, IMO. Their OC made the worst play call in the history of Pro Football today, given the circumstances. Also, the Patriots should have never even reached SB XXXVI, because even with the Tuck Rule, which was changed because it is BS, that was still a fumble. If you ever watch a replay again, Brady had the ball in a carrying position for about 1.5 seconds after he pump faked. That rule was created to protect a pump fake that slipped out of a QB's hand. If they lose do they even start Brady the next season, or do they stick with Bledsoe? The world will never know. I don't think Seattle was the better team at all. The two teams seemed pretty evenly matched. Sure, the OC made a terrible call that cost them the game, but the previous play was an extremely lucky catch to set up that situation. The Patriots scored 28 points pretty easily and could have had more if not for the red zone interception. They were 8/14 on third down and pretty much had their way with Seattle.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Someone has to figure out how Poppovich has maintained such success Tim Duncan.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 10:19 AM) Did the teams swap out basketballs between each possession? I heard in the past that the showtime Lakers would overinflate their balls. I think each home team supplies the balls. The advantage there is that more air leads to longer rebounds which leads to easier fast breaks. It would also hurt teams that relied on shooting. Deflating the balls would have the opposite effect. It would make it harder to fast break and the ball would be more forgiving for poor shooting teams.
  20. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 11:30 PM) I has Iowa state -5 tonight. I was watching the end and I knew the line. That was gross.
  21. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 09:24 AM) That was one of the better 2nd halves under Groce, it was really encouraging to see. Also, Leron is going to be a beast, kid is just starting to figure it out and he'll be a rebounding machine which Illinois hasn't had in quite a while. Yeah, I thought the idea of having Hill front Hammons while Egwu was able to sag off of a 18% 3PT shooter and help was pretty ingenious. I thought the game was pretty much over after Egwu picked up his fourth foul. I think Black, Nunn, and Hill all have the ability to make an All Big Ten at some points in their career. I mean, Hill didn't look that great physically last night and he still ended up with 18-6-4. It just seems like the young players have a much better basketball acumen in comparison to the older guys. This includes Rice. Hill made a stellar pick and roll pass late to Egwu that resulted in an and 1 dunk and then he had a nice assist to Black late in the game where I'm almost positive Rice would have tried to force both.
  22. Illini -3. I have been betting against Illinois for the most part recently (hit the IU ML on Sunday), but I feel like they matchup much better with Purdue than IU. Egwu should be able to stay near the paint, where he is a much better defender. Purdue isn't a great shooting team from the outside this year either (34% as a team). One of the starters, Aaron Cosby, has been ruled out for Illinois. If you have watched Illini games this year you'll realize that this is probably a good thing. The only thing to worry about is depth now.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) The Saints lost back to back 2nd round picks because of the bounty scandal. Flat out cheating, and when it's not the first time, is a worse offense to the integrity of the league. Losing two firsts is not crippling or equal to the NCAA death penalty. You'd have to forfeit all your picks for 3 years to make that statement. Losing 2 first round picks at the end of the 1st round will not come close to crippling your franchise. But losing a first and a second for 3 straight years? Losing two firsts alone, I agree, will not cripple a franchise. The Bears did that in the Cutler trade and were relatively fine. There is a big difference between 2 first round picks and 3 first round picks and 3 second round picks.
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 21, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) You obviously don't follow the NFL if you think that's an appropriate fine. 1st and 2nds? Not a chance. That would kill an organization. Not going to happen. Yeah, that would be similar to the death penalty in the NCAA. That isn't going to happen in professional sports. I think this whole thing is being overblown though.
