QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) I think there is a pretty good chance of a bounceback from LaRoche between that, and being his second year in the AL. I could see that, I just hope they keep him in a strict platoon. Zero reasons for him to start vs LHP.

Rios is their #9 hitter, expectations are much lower. He doesn't have to do much, the Sox depended on him as a middle of the order hitter.

Good thing this season doesn't matter or that would be an epically painful loss. No complaints here though, perfect weather for my first game of the year.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 31, 2015 -> 11:45 AM) I hope we can stop discussing Cubit getting the Illinois job full time now. I wanted Mike Leach from day one. He probably has a good harem built in Pullman at this time that Champaign can't top. -

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 31, 2015 -> 12:22 AM) The cast of Fox' Pre and Post has an interesting makeup. A Hall of Famer who hasn't been particularly timid opining on PEDs in baseball , and two would-be Hall of Famers; one a degenerate gambler who gambled on the team he was managing , the other a compulsive liar who rode his way to the top of several prestigious MLB records via PEDs. Unfortunately they all overshadow how smart and informative CJ Nitkowski is.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) This should pretty much end any chance of Ratliff hooking up with another team http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...1030-story.html It's the NFL, I wouldn't be so sure about that. Maybe not this season, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him playing again next year.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) It probably depends on how some of the younger QB's in the league develop. Derek Carr Teddy Bridgewater Blake Bortles Jameis Winston Marcus Mariota Two or three of these guys need to take the next step. Oh boy, the QB position is doomed!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) For some reason I thought he was on the 1984 Tigers. Oh well. Sometimes the example is a tad exaggerated. For the Yankees, I'm still not sure the overall ARod deal is worth it just for 2009 when they have so many championships overall. If Doyle Alexander were on the 84 Tigers and helped them win a ring, people would look at that trade differently. Given up Smoltz would not have hurt as much if it led to a title, not to two s***ty performances in the LCS. The Yankees are an interesting case given all the A-Rod drama. Given that it was their only title in 15 years now, I think they still might consider it worth it, I don't know though. For a team like the Royals though, I don't care if Finnegan and Lamb win 5 Cy Youngs, they would make the trade everytime if they win the WS this year.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) Doyle Alexander/John Smoltz says hello. If Aaron Miles became the grittiest player in the history of baseball, a few would probably give away their World Series with Juan Uribe. Not that it would rational. Hello. What does that have to do with this discussion? Doyle Alexander lost twice in the playoffs and the '87 Tigers lost in the ALCS. The Royals are close to winning the World Series helped by a couple of gems pitched by Cueto. Those two situations aren't comparable right now.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 07:25 AM) Also depends on how Finnegan and the other pieces from that deal turn out, Cody Reed, Lamb, etc. No it doesn't. Flags fly forever.

QUOTE (High Mileage @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 05:38 AM) Johnny Cueto definitely deserves to be criticized for how he's pitched in a Royal uniform, but if Game 2 was his last in KC he'll be remembered fondly by most and the trade will have been worth it. The thing is, the sole purpose for the trade was to have him in the playoffs to win the WS. His bad performance in the regular season is irrelevant, the division was won anyway. We know what happened in Toronto, but vs. Houston they won his first start, then he dominated in a winner take all game 5. Then after a 14 inning marathon, he came out with a CG gem. I still think he won't be remembered that "fondly" in KC but he will be remembered as a vital piece to winning the title. It may have been a Toronto-Houston ALCS without him.

Justin Morneau or another year of LaRoche
LittleHurt05 replied to klaus kinski's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 08:44 PM) Prefer Kent Hrbek After all the concussions, Morneau probably thinks he is Kent Hrbek. Any resurgence he had was solely Coors Field aided, no thank you. -
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 08:37 PM) So sub the 21 year old for the guy who hasn't done a thing since June 2013. That will help the offense, as evidenced by tonight's game. You are right, I can't argue against that. Just given how sloppy and unfamiliar they have looked, I'm not gonna get too upset about Q playing blender with the lines at this point. But I will say Teuvo has to be back in the lineup after tomorrow night in Minnesota. Sending a "message" for one or two games is fine, but the kid needs to play.
-
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) Someone help me understand why Bickell is in for Teuvo today Meh. It's game #10 and they hadn't scored a regulation goal in a week, no reason to get too upset about lineup changes. It's not like they sent him to Rockford.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) KC had the fewest strikeouts in the regular season at 973. The difference between them and the next team, Atlanta with 1107, is the same as the difference between Atlanta and the #18 team. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-royals-...tact-team-ever/ Fangraphs did this article showing how relative to the rest of the league, the Royals are the best contact making team ever. Yet their strikeout rate is much higher than most past teams, given how different the eras are.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 07:47 AM) Whoa. https://mobile.twitter.com/rwesthead/status...697223287074816 @rwesthead Source: In their 1st & only meeting, new Jays prez Mark Shapiro scolded Alex Anthopoulos & staff for trading so many top prospects this yr Wow, that's huge. I understand a reluctance to trade prospects, but when your large sports-crazed town has gone 22 years without a MLB playoff appearance, I think it's justifiable, even if they fell short the World Series. And it's not like there are any open jobs for AA either. This tweet is awesome: birky @b1rky Being a Toronto sports fan is like being a Cubs fan if the Cubs played every sport.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 06:58 AM) He got 3 swing and misses in his 94 pitches, not zero. Still very impressive by the Royals. Mets only had 3 swing and misses against Cueto too in his 122 pitches. In total, there was only 9 swing and misses in the entire game. Pretty crazy. That was the fewest swings and misses of his career. The lack of strikeouts has also exposed the Mets sub-par defense. It's funny though, if Familia doesn't make the one bad pitch, the series is tied 1-1 and the Mets are in great shape despite getting dominated yesterday. That's baseball though.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 10:01 PM) Why did they just say that Jack Morris pitched the last complete game in the World Series? The Sox pitched 4 in a row in 2005. World Series. The Sox pitched 4 in the ALCS.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) I think if Adam Dunn, Adam LaRoche or Alex Rios would have done something similar for White Sox fans, they would have had a bit more sympathy. Just like Cueto had a situation where he blew off a highly-publicized public/charity appearance for "injury treatment" and it really hurt his standing with the fans, especially because of how poorly he was pitching at the time. At any rate, Moustakas made a really good play in the 6th inning last night, but he also couldn't cleanly field D'Arnaud's ball when the Mets scored their first run to tie it (probably couldn't have gotten the runner at the plate, though...maybe), Hosmer's misplay late, now the botched double play ball with the bad throw leading to another run tonight. Uncharacteristic. Then again, the Royals didn't really deserve anything more than a double or perhaps a triple on the Escobar inside-the-park home run to lead off the game. Wait, what? Dunn and LaRoche are universally recognized as better people than Hosmer and Moustakas. Why do they need more sympathy? Dunn sponsored a dinner for 40 members of Scott Carroll 's family after his MLB debut, doesn't that make him a great person too?
