QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 09:22 AM) I'll be there as well. Hoping he plays obviously. Rose is "questionable" tonight and Noah is doubtful. Bummer.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 10:18 AM) I meant more pointing him in the right direction anyway this seems like the key takeaway: Thanks, that's what I was looking for. My contract says the annual increase can be the increase of CPI or 5%, whichever is higher. I don't think 15% fits in either category.

Can anyone lead me to how much the Consumer Price Index has increased in the past 12 months? My laundry vendor is trying to raise prices based on that, and I'm ready to call BS. I'm pretty sure it was much less than 5%.

Apparently I signed up for the Cubs season ticket waiting list years ago, because I got a call that my number got called, as did every other Cubs fan I know. That massive waiting list has quickly dwindled down. If I could guarantee they would be a playoff team next year, it could be a good investment with playoff tickets, but 81 games is a lot and they aren't cheap.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 11:56 PM) I also had a theory like this. Maybe it's wishful thinking. I also wonder what will happen when they won't have a black man to blame. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 05:59 AM) They'll blame a woman What has Mia Love gotten herself into????

Friedman hires Oakland assistant GM Farhan Zaidi to be Dodgers GM. MIT grad with a doctorate from Berkley, everyone is lauding the hire. Very cool background article about him http://m.sfgate.com/athletics/article/A-s-...and-5205023.php -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 05:06 PM) It's not an XBox game. It's not in good nauture to submit artificial bids to increase the price of a player for a rival team unless you are willing to pay that price for that player. The Cubs may offer 6/$100 and the Sox come in with 6/$110 with a vesting option for the 7th thinking that the Cubs will come back over the top and ultimately the Cubs decide he's not worth that much. Now you're stuck with a monster contract in an area of no need. If the Cubs want to sign him, let them sign him. Since when is starting pitching an area of no need?

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) Wouldn't shock me if it's done quickly in the process, as they'll use him as a recruiter for other top free agents. I feel like recruiting doesn't matter much with top free agents in baseball. Maybe with older guys looking for short deals, but the top guys get such big offers , money talks.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) He'll be a Cub. Yup. Only way it doesn't happen is if some mystery team goes crazy and offers him like $200 million plus

Pardon my cluelessness, but isn't there a Thompson in the system that is thought highly of? Is this a different guy?

Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
LittleHurt05 replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) Well, the difference is they have 6-7 options for the final spot in the rotation. The White Sox have Rodon, and then: Bassitt, who would actually prefer to be a reliever Beck, who can't strike anyone out and looks to be a long man or pen piece for now Montas, who is more likely to become closer out of necessity Danish, who's unlikely to be in the Sox rotation plans until 2016 or 2017 Right now, it's going to be either Carroll or Bassitt unless they sign someone or make a trade. That final spot is actually replacing James Shields and his 227 IP of low 3 ERA baseball. You can't expect a youngster to pitch that many innings, let alone with such a low ERA. That automatically leads to more innings out of the bullpen, which was their strong suit. And if you pick one of those 6/7 options, there's no guarantee he succeeds. Then how many starts do you give him? Who goes next? I'm not putting the White Sox above them, but they do have some questions marks heading into the season. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) That rotation doesn't have questions in it? lol. Haven't you heard? The Royals pitching prospects are all guaranteed to immediately succeed and have zero injury risk. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 09:30 AM) I wouldn't worry, she's going to get crushed in the general anyway. I'm just amazed the IL GOP couldn't field better (or at least non-psychotic) candidates for that district, which has enough well-off suburbia that it could be a solid pickup opportunity for them. I think that Schakowsky is very popular and well-liked that she would be tough to beat, and the GOP would rather spend their time and $$$ elsewhere.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) Now, does he actually believe that, or did you hear this from your best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend, who heard it from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night? I've seen things like this said about various candidates from various parties throughout the years, and almost never does it turn out that they said or believe anything close to what someone claimed, or they took what was said out of context because it suited them. I only ask because those claims seem beyond extreme on the stupid side. She was directly quoted by the Daily Herald and also an LGBT online publication that she reached out to. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/19/s..._n_4993555.html

The Republican candidate in my congressional district apparently believes that God dictates weather patterns and tornadoes, autism, and dementia are all God's punishments for same-sex marriage and abortion access. Also, gay marriage breeds AIDS. Interesting.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 08:04 AM) For those speculating about what it will take to sign V. Martinez, it might be interesting to note what some of the other great hitters are going to be getting paid in their late 30's, and beyond: Age 36 -39 Albert Pujols 25M, 26M, 27M, 28M, Plus 29M at 40, 30M at 41 Robinson Cano 24M each year, plus 24M at 40 Miguel Cabrera 30M, 30M, 30M, 32M, plus 32M at 40 with vesting options for 32M for two more years if top 10 MVP Given that Victor is the only really great left handed hitter in this year's free agent market, I would guess that it will take at least $20 million, per year for the first 3 years, with something close to that for the 4TH. I know that he is pretty much strictly a DH, but he is a switch hitter, and last year helps him make the case that he is aging well. Please don't assume that any of this suggests that I'm advocating signing him to that kind of contract. I'm simply speculating about what it might take. Those aren't fair comparisons though. All those contracts were signed around the age of 31, so they also included 5 years of younger productivity.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) The Niners had put together an extremely talented roster and failed to get over the hump. They have lost some of that depth and are now 4-4. One game better than the Bears. They haven't played Seattle yet. Why are we pining for someone else's mediocrity over our own at this point? I know we need to look deeper than just this year's team's current record. I realize a coach can have a bad year and still remain a good coach. Just look at what Andy Reid has done with KC after 2012 in Philadelphia. That being said, I don't view Harbaugh as any being an incredible organizational leader. As you admitted, he seems to have issues with his own front office. He has behaved questionably on the sidelines at times. He is allowing a player alleged to have beaten a female to continue to play. He made the decision to elevate Kaepernick over Alex Smith, despite the latter's success. The jury is still out on the results of that decision, but they certainly are in question at this point. I confess I don't follow the Niners extremely closely, but I just don't see much there in terms of Harbaugh's leadership capabilities that would convince me to give up the necessary dollars and authority to bring him in right now. This is a very good post, I like your thinking here.
