Stanton deal could reach 13 years/ $325 to $350 million

The length of the deal is risky of course, but I don't hate it. He's 25, not 31, you are getting his prime years. -

Iowa's offensive play calling seems like it's from 1930. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 12:37 AM) It's funny, last year I was screaming for a trade of Quintana for Castro + Altuve. Never would have though a year later that Altuve would be the headliner of that deal. No thanks on that trade

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) It is less than an inning a start. I am also curious where that line is of too little. Kershaw just became the least amount of innings pitched ever to win a Cy Young (outside of strikes and relievers). How much further down could he go, and still be OK? 190? 180? 175? Averaging 7 -1/3 IP per start versus 6 - 2/3 per start is pretty significant IMO. And I think there are several variables as to how few IP a winner must have. It depends how good his season was, how good the competition was, etc. Sale only had 174 IP and still finished 3rd. His WAR was higher than any NL pitcher not named Kershaw.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 12:01 PM) They had some Bears insiders on CSN yesterday. Supposedly, Briggs has had a big attitude problem this year. I guess he was out at the bars until 4 AM last Friday night, mentioned zoning out in meetings etc. He is supposedly a "Lovie guy" and has never connected with this staff, and also is supposedly a little out of shape. They were mentioning one thing that may happen if this continues is Lance getting released. I don't doubt a single word of this post. Briggs has always kind of been a diva. He doesn't seem like the type to help the young guys, so there really is no reason to have him around anymore. -

Sucks that she kept beating the cancer and it kept coming back.

QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) Am I the only one that thinks it ridiculous that he was only 4th? I am not a fan of this award going to the best performer from a contending team, with previous history taken into account. In my mind it should be given to the most valuable player. While the White Sox stunk Abreu was I believe more valuable to his team than Mike Trout. If Kluber can win the Cy Young after one charmed year on a non-playoff team, why can't Abreu win the MVP? Because Mike Trout is & was better at baseball??? And remember that to the writers, how "valuable" you are to a team depends on whether or not that team made the playoffs. That's why Trout only has one MVP award and not 3.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) good breakdown but I meant to ask how do the prospects for the 2015 draft look because the Bears should have a pretty decent pick. They'll probably screw it up by going 4-3 to end the season and ending up in the middle of the round. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) The difference isn't that great. I'd be curious where 198 IP ranks on the list of all time Cy Young award/MVP winners (obviously excluding the couple of closers who won). According to this list, it looks like the lowest IP total ever for non-reliever, non-strike year, or non-Rick Sutcliffe traded mid-season.

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) From Rotoworld: Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that according to major league sources, the Marlins and Giancarlo Stanton are discussing a 10-year, $300 million deal. I wonder if that deal would include a no-trade clause. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) Why would any hitter go to the Padres? If they do get him they must have offered him a lot more money and a starting position Millions of dollars to live in San Diego? Yes please.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) If Andrew Friedman is half as good as his hype, I don't see how the White Sox get useful parts for next to nothing. LOL. The best 50 players in baseball will be on the Dodgers & Cubs rosters and all of the other idiot GMs will be left to fight for the scraps.

I am just torn on Miller. There's no doubt that he has the stuff, but 2014 was the first time he really harnassed his control. If that wildness comes back, he's just another reliever. Given that someone always overpays for bullpen help, I feel like the price will end up way too high for me to want the Sox to sign him.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) If not Miller, what about a combination of Sergio Romo, Gregerson, K-Rod.I think Frankie might be the better value buy as he's a little older and given some of his clubhouse issues you might be able to pick him up for a 1-2 year deal at 7 or 8 per season. Not bad and not something that totally impacts you. Romo/Gregerson are also pretty attractive with very good WHIP's. If I could get any two of them for a combined 30M over 2 years, I'd think long and hard about it. Romo as the set-up guy and Krod in the closer role. Trickle down effect puts everyone else in our current pen in much better situations. Also have Rafael Soriano out there. It would seem to me that the Sox would benefit from signing one of Krod / Romo / Soriano to stablize the closer role. All should be able to be had without going long-term. Would also be interested in Jansen from Toronto...nice arm..and again a guy you could probably get to bite on a short term deal (maybe even like a 1yr 4 to 5 M deal). All of these guys would be significant upgrades over what we had by and large, imo. Also, all of them possess pretty darn good stuff as well. I'm all about getting K-Rod. Gregerson worries me since he has always thrown in pitchers parks. Romo had some arm issues last year, but if the physicals look good, he could be a good signing too.

I keep going back and forth between Kluber's and Felix's stats, and they are both deserving, would have been fair if either guy won.

QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 05:46 PM) The Tigers owe Verlander,Martinez and Cabrera 78 million in 2018. They got about 2-3 years before all hell breaks loose. In 2018 they might be coming off their 7th consecutive AL Central crown, so you can't really say they haven't gotten their money's worth. -

Sounds like the Tigers are still "all-in". Wonder if they try hard to keep Scherzer.
